I have also noticed there are a lot of changes in speed limits along the same pieces of road 60 to 40 to 50 to 30 to 60 to 40 to 20, each one only a few hundred yards long, which means you are constantly looking at your speedo... Rather than looking at the road, where all the hazards are!

I used to live up at pimpsait crugybar now in Bwlchllan. I know that road and the little train station. From what I have seen most people are sticking to the 30mph and ignoring the 20, it's stupid they want to control you and get cars and bikes off the roads. Nothing to do with climate or safety.

i did some trails up wales last week and the roads between were absolute hell , cyclists in the way of cars, cars in the way of bikes, cars in the way of walkers, everyone in each others way - just hell - almost like that was the plan from the start, make everyone hate each other that little bit more so you aren't paying attention to the real issues being played out - this 20mph shi7e has to be removed - FFS people, use your heads when you vote

In my NZ city the council is debating new 30kph limits within 1k of schools , which are everywhere , except on major routes . So most of the city will be 30kph . My concern is when a dangerous police pursuit gets called off the police still attempt to " keep eyes on " at the posted limits . That "keeping eyes on" will suddenly become extremely difficult at 30k when it is already nearly impossible at 50k . Way to make it easier for the offenders to make their getaways councilors ! ( sardonic applause )

Speed "limits" are not an indication of how safe it is to travel on said road. They are purely a legally enforcable limit, usually enforced where people not enclosed in a metal shell are likely to be.

It's not legal to do sixty on a road like that just because the signs are there. The driver is expected to match his speed to prevailing conditions such as road surface, sight lines and such. Doing thirty down there could leave you open to a charge of dangerous driving if you were to hit a kid on a bike.

I belong to a motorhome club and we were coming up next April for a week. Since the new limit, all of us can’t bothered to travel under such ridiculous and draconian speed laws. We are now having our rally in Yorkshire. So with 32 people, three camp sites, many gallons of fuel, pub lunches etc etc, the economy of wales has probably lost about £25-£30 thousand over one week. I wonder how much more your economy will be losing in future.

I can see the point of 20 mph for very short lengths of highway ,outside schools ,hospitals ,housing estates & busy high streets. I can’t see the need on long stretches of A & B road. I live in England a few miles from the North Wales border , I can tell you the people of Wales are not alone ,we suffer similar madness from our local governments concerning our speed limits .

The A48 from Bonvilston to the Cowbridge by-pass is 60mph. When you get to the by-pass, a dual carriageway, it reduces to 50mph.
