After you read Enchanted April you could watch the movie. I haven’t read the book yet but the movie is a comfort watch for me. I’ll have to move the book up on my classic TBR list.
I loved The Lost Prince and really everything I’ve read by Frances Hodgson Burnett but I think you are in for a heartwarming little treat. The Pickwick Papers was one of my favorite books of 2024 so I also have Nicholas Nickleby on my TBR.
I ❤ Christy so much! A favorite of mine. Lady Susan is so different from everything else Austen wrote but it's so fun. The Watsons and Sanditon are both unfinished. I love Dickens but i haven't gotten around to Nicholas nickleby yet.
I am going to re-start on classics reading in 2025. For the past 3 years I have been doing reading challenges with specific prompts, but that required many new books. I am going to alternate classics and fun reads.
I finally read "Christy" in 2024, and was so glad I did! I watched the tv series based on the book, back in the 1990's. It starred Kellie Martin, and it is available to watch for free on UA-cam. I hope you enjoy the book.
Looking forward to seeing what you think of these books when you read them - interesting stack! For next year I want to finish the Count of Monte Cristo which I started back in January and stalled after 300 pages. Beyond that I'm not sure! Lots of options but I'm such a mood reader that I think I will just play it by ear and/or see what fits into the reading challenges. 🙂
Mary Barton 🥰♥️ I’ve read all of these except What Katy Did Next and The Lost Prince BECAUSE I just finished Nicholas Nickleby. It took me three months. 😬👀🤦🏽♀️It’s slow, but I loooooved the ending. Lady Susan is a favorite. A VERY different leading lady character! 😂I loooooove the whole Betsy Tacy Tib Series! 10 books? They go all the way through the girls adulthood! I actually traveled to Mankato, Minnesota which is the inspiration for Deep Valley.
I have really fallen in love with reading classics over the past few years! I read two Dickens this year, Great Expectations was a 5 star I really liked it. I also read David Copperfield which was also good, solid 4 star. It helps me to listen to the audiobook and follow along in the physical book especially at the beginning when a lot of characters are being introduced.
Ah, Great Expectations, that's one I've started twice and haven't gotten very far into, I'm looking forward to eventually finishing it and checking that box though!
I really enjoyed The Warden. It surprised me how much I liked it. I also just picked up a copy of Christy recently so I am hoping to read it next year as well.
I’m keeping my classics as audiobooks this year…I’ve plenty in my audiobook TBR that I already own🫣 I think I’ll start with Little Woman because it’s been on there for a while and then I’ll see what I’m in the mood for next… Sherlock Holmes collection? Pickwick Papers? Barsoom Collection (I’ve read the first three books with my eyes years ago and LOVED them!)… oh Heidi!! That is a must for me this year!
Wow that is a cool stack! I'm always reluctant with Dickens, especially with the whole Victorian writing (I don't know how difficult his will be to read)! I definitely want to finish the Anne series in 2025 and the Little Women series (only 1 book left to read!), other than that I just want to read more classics? Maybe try and Austen and some more Bronté?
I don't think I've read any of these classics, so I'll be looking forward to hearing what you think of them. I was planning to do Anne's Reading the Classics Challenge next year to get me reading more classics in general, but then I also recently added a whole bunch of other classics to my TBR for next year that I'll be talking about soon.
"Christy" is one of my all-time favorite stories. I have my mom's copy and it is a treasure. I hope you enjoy it. I read "The Enchanted April" this year and enjoyed it. I try to read 4 classics a year, one per season.
I LOVED Christy!!❤❤❤❤ oh it touched me so much!! My Antonia is really good!! There was one part i didn't like but overall it was really good. Yes read Lady Susan in January.
"A Girl of the Limberlost" (1909) is a much forgotten teen/YA classic that I stumbled across centuries ago. As did my Mother. Pls give me a thumbs up 👍 if you have read it and would recommend it to Chantel.❤
There is a movie Enchanted April. It is really good. Maybe you can rent it and watch after or before you read the book. I loved both. It's about a group of women who rent a villa in Italy together. They are all different but they take a risk. It's sort of like their dream. Some are married to insipid men who feel like they want to control their wives. But the villa is magical in a lot of ways.
I have several classics. "The man who laughs" by Victor Hugo is the one I hope to read in January. I had it in my TBR for 2 years now but I somehow keep putting it on hold 😅 I have Middlemarch for March and the Enchanted April fir April TBR too. I actually got a vook with the month name for each month TBR. I thought it would be fun to start each month with them. 😊
I've never heard of The Man Who Laughs! I would love to hear which books you all have for the monthly picks with the name in the title, that sounds fun!
@ChantelReadsAllDay The "Man who laughs" is actually the book that inspired the Joker from Batman. I watched a musical from South Korea based on the book so I decided I should read the book. As for my month in the title they are not all classics but the list goes: January: "The ten thousand doors of January" by Alix E Harrow February: "February's Son" by Alan Parks March: "Middlemarch" by George Eliott April: "April Lady" by Giles, Earl of Cardross and Lady Helen Georgette Heyer, and "The Enchanted April" by Elizabeth Von Arnim May: "Twelve days in May" by Niamh Hargan, June: "The Unmaking of June Farrow" by Adrienne Young, July: "April May June July" by Alison B. Hart, August: "The End of August" by Yu Miri, "August Blue" by Deborah Levy and "The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes Novel)" by Brittany Cavallaro, September: "The September House" by Carissa Orlando, October: "October Child" by Linda Boström Knausgård, November: "Nice Work, Nora November" by Julia London and finally December: "A December to Remember" by Jenny Bayliss and "We Met in December" by Rosie Curtis I also got "Bloody January", "February's Son", "Bobby March will live Forever", "The April Dead", "May god forgive" by Alan Parks They are a series. I had to at least put the January cause is book 1 and the only book for February I had was book 2, but I don't know if I gonna read all of them.
I also recently purchased My Antonia and Enchanted April. Don't know when I'll get to them, but when you get to them and you want a buddy read, let me know! 😉☺
I don't have a classics tbr, but I would like to get some read. I want to read some Agatha Christie and P. G. Wodehouse. I think Chautona and I are going to buddy read Thorofare by Christopher Morley (he wrote Parnassus on Wheels) in January. I don't know if you would count that as a classic as it isn't well-known, but it was written around 100 years ago.
@@ChantelReadsAllDay This year he read Around the World in 80 Days and 20,000 Leagues and will still read Treasure Island. He's also asked to read Journey to the Center of the Earth for school, we will see. Next year we switch to American History so was thinking some American lit but not exclusively. Possibly The Old Man and the Sea and some other short stories by Hemingway. Of Mice and Men, The Last of the Mohicans potentially. Maybe The Call of the Wild or Moby Dick. If you have any ideas lay them on me because I could use help lol. I try and pre-read most of the classics I give him but I'm not a huge classic reader so I really have to push myself.
Hi Chantel The second book that you have listed in the description box goes right to Google and then Amazon. No other books is listed in the Description box below or something. I should be able to see all of the books listed but I can’t. They don’t show up in the Description box.
After you read Enchanted April you could watch the movie. I haven’t read the book yet but the movie is a comfort watch for me. I’ll have to move the book up on my classic TBR list.
I finally checked out North and South from the library. You have spoken so highly of it since you read it. I can't wait to read it!
The Betsy-Tacy books were my childhood! So glad you are reading them. You are in for a real treat :)
I'm looking forward to it!

I discovered my love for classics late this year and I am eager to read these along with you in the coming year. Great list ❤
What have been some of your favorites?

Thanks Louise! I totally understand the stall, I hope you find the motivation to finish!

Way to finally finish Nicholas Nickleby! It's one that I'm planning on taking awhile so hopefully I don't get too discouraged when it does!
You have some great ones on this list! I have some of these on my to-read list, too.

I'm glad that classics on audio works for you! I find I need to physically read classics.
Your videos lately have just been chef’s kiss! 😊 And that sweater color looks great on you!
Aww, thank you so much, Robin!

The Brontes and Elizabeth Gaskell are much more approachable Victorian writers I think, maybe start with them and then eventually try Dickens?
Your classics goal is impressive! I want to begin to add some to my reading life.
I hope you find a few good ones to add in!
😂 You just been pushing out those videos back to back I’m here for it girl .. 😅 appreciate your dedication to the channel/(reading)community ..
Bookmas makes for a lot of videos, though I scaled back this year! Thanks so much for watching!

There's just so many classics, it can get easy to get overwhelmed and create a huge TBR!
"Christy" is one of my all-time favorite stories. I have my mom's copy and it is a treasure. I hope you enjoy it. I read "The Enchanted April" this year and enjoyed it. I try to read 4 classics a year, one per season.

I’d like to read all those. One of my classics this year will be The Iliad
Loved the Betsy Tacy books!

Lady Susan is a completed novella. I loved it. ❤

I'd totally say that counts, I should read more Christopher Morley, I loved Parnassus!
I'm hoping to read some Trollope this year as well 😊 maybe The Warden, but I'm kind of intimidated by a long series 😅
I haven’t read classics in years but I need to pre read some before I assign them to my oldest…
Which ones are you planning on pre-reading?

Oh that's strange, I just checked and they all work for me, not sure what's going on there!
@ - Oh Okay - I tried two different times and I can’t get past the second book in the Description box
I love the movie, "You've Got Mail," too.
I love Christy!
I've only heard people rave about it!
I like the movie Nicholas Nickleby
