We've gotten some questions about how we are able to rent / move to Italy so here is how: Chris is a dual citizen with Italy and the United States. Since we are married, I'm (Sam) able to stay through the Permesso di Soggiorno. We both work fully remote jobs so we were able to live anywhere in Italy, but fell in love with Bologna. What this video doesn't show is the dozens of apartments we were interested in but didn't work out / fell through. All in all, it took several months to find and secure the ones we were able to see. If you are in the process of looking for housing in Italy, it's quite a process and be patient and persistent. 😘
Thanks so much for watching! It was a big decision, but we are SO excited for the adventure. Not moving for work specifically (we both have remote jobs), more so just for something different and outside of our comfort zone a bit. We’ll be posting more on the move soon - cheers 😄
Firenze is central Italy not north Italy. Italy is composed by 3 sections, we may say, from Firenze to Roma is central Italy. From Bologna to the alps is noth, from Napoli to Sicilia is south.
We say “north” Italy not because it is considered northern Italy but more so because it is north of some of the other places we’ve been in the past like Roma and Napoli. Hope you enjoyed the video other than the apparent geography error 😁🇮🇹
2k/mo for rent is crazy for Italian standards, I know it's not in the states 😂. It's more than one entire average monthly salary after tax in Bologna. But if you can afford it - you do get a nice and big apartment right in the beautiful historical city center. Great if you want to live in the city without a car. Wish you the best of luck, welcome to Emilia :)
Thanks for watching! We were surprised as well but ended up finding a nice spot that we love ❤️ We don't have a car, so it was very important for us to be able to walk or be near public transport. Cheers!
I (Sam) love reading the romance genre so please let us know when it's available! Thank you so much for following along ❤️ we appreciate your support! Cheers 🍷🍻🥰
Firenze è anche più bella di Barcellona !!! È una città d' arte, è una città medievale ed ha una grande storia rispetto a Barcellona. La storia antica delle città italiane non ha paragone con nessuna città al mondo
Rents in Bologna have sky rocketed after covid years, it's crazy....many people have been forced out of the city because of rised up rents ..It's a shame! Probably they will not appear expensive to someone who comes from the US and work remotely for US companies, but for an Italian with an average or minimum wage they are unaffordable, above all if you're single and don't come from a wealthy family. For that reason in Bologna is very common to live in flats shared with other people. (I've been living here since 1993 and I was able to remain here only because my request of a "council flat" has been accepted, otherwise last march I would have had to leave Bologna after 31 years!)
Hi! Thank you for sharing your perspective. You're absolutely right-rising rents in Bologna have created significant challenges, especially for locals. It’s heartbreaking to hear how this is affecting so many long-time residents, and we really appreciate you shedding light on the situation. As newcomers, we recognize that our experience here is very different, and we’re always trying to learn more about what life is like for those who’ve been here far longer. We’re glad to hear you were able to remain in Bologna-it’s such a special city, and it’s stories like yours that remind us of the complexities behind its charm. Thank you again for taking the time to comment and share your story! Cheers! 🍻
Florence in expensive, i Live in Torino, and is a greati bat very confortable town, I could suggest Bergamo, because in the centre og Norhtern Italy , not big but very atristic, close To Milan, less than two hours from Venice, the airport connected to alla Europe, beautifull lakes like Iseo Lake....
We’ve heard that the northern region of Italy is beautiful. Haven’t made it there yet, but we are planning something soon. We actually looked at Bergamo as they had a beer festival we wanted to go to, but couldn’t make it work. Thanks for watching - cheers!😁🇮🇹
How can you rent a house in Italië? We want to move to Italy and want to hire a house first. We went to a real estate agent and we have visited a house, we had a hire contract on the mail and then a few days later when we were back in Holland, the agent days that the owner not want to rent his house😢 Now we have sold our house at the Netherlands but don't have a house in Italy😮
Sorry to hear about your experience. We definitely had a tough time finding a place too. While the video only shows a few apartments, we looked at hundreds online first and contacted many and were turned away. All we can say is keep the faith and keep trying!
@boozing_abroad thank you so much for the answer🙏 i follow a few bloggers who going to move to another country and I only see that they find a house very quickly, but I think in real life it isn't easy to find a house. Anyway, I love to watch your video's 💕
While it may be easy to find options online as another commenter said, we found it to be difficult to secure a place since we weren’t there for the entire time and didn’t speak the language so communications were more challenging. Keep trying !😁
@@boozing_abroad No, it doesn't matter, but my attempt was to write that it was Sam's choice and that wives are always right. Welcome to Italy, I wish you all the best.😂😂😂
We don’t think the mandolin is specific to any one part of Italy. We just think it fits the vibe of the video and is something our viewers can relate to. Anyways, thanks for watching - hope you enjoyed! 😁🇮🇹

And looks aren’t deceiving here…it IS delicious!! 😋😋😋 thanks for watching 🇮🇹😁
The most beautiful country in the world!!
It’s pretty great, isn’t it?!? 😁😁
Keep posting! We're considering the same thing. Thank you.
Thanks!! It's been a wild ride and definitely not an easy process but we are enjoying it so far. Best of luck in your search! ♥️🇮🇹
Moving to Italy?!? Exciting. Are you guys moving for work, adventure,…? Be sure to keep posting. We love your vids

What did you use to search for your apartments in both cities? (I do like the one you selected!)
We mainly used Idealista and Immobiliare (and there was sometimes some crossover between the two as well).
And we love our place too! 😁😁🏠

Bologna was the right choice! We’ll be there for a few days next year on the way to the Balkans. Maybe we can do a ‘crossover episode’ 😂
We think so too! 😁 Let us know when you’re coming to town - would love to catch up for an aperitivo. Happy travels!
My wife is writing a romance novel based in Alaska and that’s how we found you guys. Keep it up! We love your channel.

@@boozing_abroad Will do! Her first novel should be out soon and she’s halfway through the Alaska one. She’s a maniac 😂
jeeeeez rents are high in Florence!!! Higher than Barcelona!
The magic of Florence comes with a price tag 🤑🤑
