I fcking love how this series starts as a slice of life with some minor bad guys like robbers and stuff, then like 30 chapter later they suddenly are fighting a huge organization
Fither finally reading peak. I think why I like Sakomoto Days is that gives me BIG Gintama vibes with how him and Gintoki are world renowned for their past achevements/ checkered past but decide to pull a 180 by living a more humble life and acquiring sidekicks that end up liking him for the current versions of themselves rather than the public opinion of them based on their history. Also the action/choreography hit different tho. If ya ever get the chance, Dandadan is definitely a manga you'd like.
You know I never really could put it in to words, Sakamoto Days does really resemble Gintama in that aspect! Very endearing characters who know how to get shit done when shit hits the fan
I would say that they are both inspired by Kenshin from Ruroni Kenshin. Or some other manga from the 70s that hasn't been translated. Like even something as important as the first battle manga has not been fully translated. Instead we have a hardcover edition of a mediocre manga like Hellsing.
@@thomasffrench3639 Yeh, Kenshin is definitely another reference with the whole redemption/no killing vow Sakamoto's got going on. Gintama was the 1st thing that came up simply because Shin & Lu seem like direct parallel's to Shinpachi & Kagura. Lu being the brash outlandish girl with a chinese aesthetic & Shin being the straight man that reigns her in from her shenanigans.
Yeah, with Sakamoto Days I think the issue is less that the action is any kind of "realistic" and more that it's a mash of shonen over-the-top superhuman feats with the dry, straight to the point style of fighting seen in action movies, both western and eastern. The reliance on these simple gimmicks like weapons combined with the author's incredible skill at dynamic paneling means there's no need for expository dialogue or commentary from bystanders. You just get straight into the flow of the action, everything is immediately understandable and cinematic, no words needed.
Without a doubt some of the best action paneling in recent shounen history imo, absolutely a fun ass read at the very least! Huge second vouch to go read if you haven’t yet!
This was the first manga I read without an anime after finding stuff to read for Weekly Shonen Jump. It one of my favorites currently serializing. Blue Box, Yozakura Family, and Akane Banashi are also recommended if you want more stuff from the magazine without anime. Never noticed that its the only battle series ive read without powers.
Sakamoto Days has some of the best action out of any other series in Jump right now. If it translates well into the rumored anime, I can see it skyrocketing in popularity.
Caught up with this series earlier this year and I've been absolutely loving it. The characters are fun and loveable, the story never feels like its slowing down, the fights are incredibly well choreographed, the villains are badass and genuinely feel threatening like you actually worry for the heroes when they're fighting one of them, and is able to balance a serious and comedic tone very well. Easily one of my favorite new gen series right now and I'm really looking forward to its eventual anime.
Oh my god I just finished bleach and I could not fucking tell what was happening in some of those fighting scenes and how it transitioned to the next punch, with this I get a whole ass step by step of wtf just happened
I’ve followed for a few months and it is so awesome, incredible fights good comedy, all around incredible, if there is a anime adaptation I hope they go all out
Dope that your reading Sakamoto Days. I've been reading it for a few months now and it's fucking rad. My favourite character so far is Nagumo and I can't wait to see what he scheming.
Hell fucking yeah man, I've been following this since near the beginning and it's still so good after so many chapters. Though I will admit I do somewhat miss the comedic chapters of Sakamoto just living his life with his family, but I can't comlain about the overall plot!
I felt the lack of filler comedy chapters when I read the manga in one gulp, many chapters a day. Now, however, when I have to wait a whole week for each new chapter, this problem has disappeared without a trace.
Fun Fact: In Chapter 52, the colour page shows that Sakamoto’s birth date is November 21 1993. …Yeah, not too sure what year the series is currently set in (the first chapter released in 2020) but it seems to be in current times so Sakamoto is 27-30 years old. To any of you reading this, 1) are any of you the same age as Sakamoto? And 2) do you look younger than his marshmallow dad form? Because for me, 1) Yes and 2) Probably yes but barely.
I preferred the gag family intro, and when it became spectacle after spectacle the "People fight." meme became true. Introducing Lu in this vid as if she has any relevancy was brutal. For an amateur debut work Suzuki tries his best. I am more interested in his sequel series.
This fills a void that Rurouni Kenshin left. A super strong protagonist that doesn’t kill anymore. Sakamoto is like a more developed and mature Kenshin.
This manga does indeed go hard, but I don't recommend binging it all in one go. It's very, very action focused, so I found sessions of 15 or so chapters at a time were the perfect goldilocks zone, so that things flow best.
Sakamoto Days is really great! My only problem with it is that it feels kind of ”unfocused” regarding its main cast except Shin and Sakamoto there are constantly new characters introduced to the main group and some with potential get left behind, like Lu for example and Heisuke only now got fight again. I really liked Kaji, the guy who couldn’t talk with shin because he was too shy. Apart, the guy they fought on the Tokyo Tower Building also joined Sakamoto if I remember correctly but has been missing in action ever since. It feels like the author reaches a point with certain characters where he does not know what to do with them anymore and just leaves them behind to introduce someone new.
Yeah, same thing happened with the police girl that appeared on early chapters, she seemed kind of important at the moment, but the author kind of forgot her existence? (Forgot her name sorry)
😑, bro this manga is underrated! I understand if this manga is sooo overrated and everyone is just talking about and says they solos any Verse, but this manga is so much underrated , no one just didn't talk about so much about this ( where Baki is so overrated and everyone in anime community know about this manga/anime). bro you just want a fight between a 50 years experienced martial arts master man with a womb baby ! Instead of power scaling , just watch this manga, it is so underrated 🥺
@@donavanwarren426 ok having read through both, current with Sakamoto and finished GOSU. It has minor differences later on with character interplay. But the main concept is bar for bar
I've been following this manga since chapter 1 and it's been one of my favorites ever since then. Glad to see other people checking it out!
Same
It’s my favorite manga tbh

I was telling my friend, Sakamoto days gave me vibes of opm and that just makes so happy
Yes, yes, yes! I have been reading this since day one and knew it was something special. It sucks that not a lot of people know about it.

We really need this manga to turn into an anime
Im glad you posted this, started reading and im loving it
Damn, I'm nearing the end of HxH and have had this on my radar for a while.
Guess I HAVE to check it out now!

This seriously needs an anime!!
not a single mid chapter
every week is a hit of peak
I just started volume 1 and halfway in I paused to by the rest lol
I bought the 1st volume of thus yesterday because sakamoto looks like the coach from slam dunk 😅

We need more attention on Sakamoto days and it's action
Hard boiled review 🗣️🔥

I've been sleeping on this series the whole time.

The hype is real. Just like OPM this one of them ones. I hope they don’t mess up the animation
Sakamoto would be an amazing anime

Sakamoto days vs Dandadan????
the fights in this manga are absolutely insane and sakamoto himself is that DAWG

No
Fither def needs to read some of the other titles in current shounen jump like undead unluck as well as Akane-Banashi
I at first read "older titles" and not "other titles" and I was gonna be like "well, they aren't translated at all"
Undead unluck is so underrated
