You have Modern and under that you get Urban Arcana, and like an X-files type setting Dark Matter. Along with the menace manual as well as the weapons and settings books.
Then you have Past which covers pirates and 20s era on into more pull action stuff.
Future has a few add on books, robots, cyborgs, post apocalyptic stuff.
    They all require Modern.
Then there are a ton of 3rd party texts.

I'm a late convert to d20 Modern, but I really liked what they did. But I really shouldn't have been surprised as I think 3e D&D is the best version, so something based on the same rules should be pretty darn good by default.
Do you recommend d20 Future? As it really looks to be something I'd like.

@@RPGGamer I find recommendations difficult, I’m a terrible salesman lol.
However I do get inspired every time I look through it. It is a bit scattered, trying to cover basically all of the sci fi genres in one book. But I think that is it’s charm as well. It is there as a toolbox and idea generator.
Dark Matter is also great in that regard. Really the only book that is lacking in inspiration is the Weapons Locker. It is just page after page of guns. Cool art like the rest, but kinda meh.

A late addition to my collection, but it's a really nice one.

D20 mod was and remains one of my favorite systems due to just how expansive it is it covers eveything from modern action to future via expansion books to magic via urban arcana, its allows shadowrun if you arent familiar with the actual shadowrun rules. always a fun systems ive got probably 40 some odd characters made up for it

I was very impressed by the rules, and although I wish they'd left the magic to a sourcebook and kept the game more reality based, there's loads to like in here.

Don't get me wrong. I get what they were going for at WOTC. D20 modern was supposed to be generic to build campaign worlds. But D20 Modern book feels like a missed opportunity to make an urban fantasy setting for the third edition Dungeons and Dragons or law enforcement or twilight 2000 like game.

There's a certain amount of that in there, and I believe one of the settings was Urban Fantasy, but for the core rules they were just trying to be generic. So by using that setting and some source books, you'd get to where you want it to be.

I still turn my nose up at basic classes based on attributes. I think they should be generic and built according to the player's taste, like in Unearthed Arcana. I also think separate guides for psionics and divine and arcane magic would be more organized. I really like D20 Future, although it doesn't have rules for mapping sectors of the galaxy. I found out today that there would be a book on supers called Spectaculars, unfortunately it was canceled.

It was a slightly odd decision, but I don't have a massive problem with it. Plan to cover D20 Future at some point in the . . . . future.
