- One of Pati's favorite food memories is sneaking off to Sanborns grocery store in Mexico City with her dad. Where she'd always eat their famous dish, Enchiladas Suizas, while her dad ate his molletes. Here she is recreating those Enchiladas Suizas in her own kitchen. My favorite. My mom use to take me to Woolworth in Tijuana for my suizas back in the 70s when I was a kid.

My mom and I made these for the first time last night. We have only ever made red enchiladas. These were delicious and we will definitely make them again!
Wonderful recipe. And the plug for Sanborns. Love it! My parents ate their first breakfast as a married couple in the downtown Monterrey Sanborns. As a kid loved going to the Madero location in Mexico City and getting the 'huevos divorciados.' Thanks for the memory.

A wonderful recipe! These are my absolute favorite enchiladas! I use a blend of Jack and Swiss cheeses.

I remember a long time ago if you wanted to drive your American car into the Interior of Mexico you had to buy Mexican Travel Insurance and one of the places you could but it was at Sanborns.

Any Mexican crema that you find in your Latin or Hispanic Market works!

What can I substitute for the Cilantro? Not much for that unfortunately
You can use a bit of Italian Parsley or just leave out the cilantro ;)
What's the difference between enchilada verde and swizzle? TIA
Enchiladas Suizas are baked with melty cheese on top. Green enchiladas are topped with queso fresco and mexican crema ;)
I like all. Your ingredients except. The oil. You should use avocado or olive or Manteca is better and kinda healthier

Sorry to hear that, if you just heated the tortillas, maybe they were not warm and pliable enough; if you passed them through oil, maybe they needed few seconds more ;)

Quite sour from the tomatillos is this normal?
They should not be sour, tangy yes because that's normal from tomatillos, but if your sauce was sour most likely the tomatillos were not fresh at all.
@@patijinich Thank you so much for your reply. I found the tomatillos very nice and smooth and firm...and I did find that the enchiladas had mellowed the next day.. I thought that perhaps I hadn't cooked the sauce long enough.
So these enchiladas have nothing to do with the swiss? And its Mewnster cheese. And Meece.
