    NOTE:
    - If your options menu looks different, click "Full Options Menu" and then set "Simple Options Menu" to Off. Also I've never used Vulkan so I skipped that stuff.
    - If your game looks odd, like your HUD is scaled weirdly, check the HUD section of this settings video: ua-cam.com/video/6Vbn6KppAWM/v-deo.htmlsi=m7nO2pBLk4UceKu4&t=148
    I know a lot of the things I went over in this video are obvious but I wanted to cover it all anyway. Hope you learned something!
    Also this was recorded before God Complex 1.1 released so the menu might look a tiny bit outdated.

    Tutorials like this are always valued. Especially for people like me that didn't even know what Anisotropic filter is (sure I've seen the effect in tons of games, but I didn't know that's what it was called).

    Great video. I've come across other "tutorial" videos regarding settings in GZDoom and they are often presented in a much more complicated manner than is necessary. Yours it's short, simple and to the point. Awesome job

    Particles are hands down better than actor spawning bar none. Recently, particles can take textures for rendering so that's nice.

    5:00 You're not seeing what the High Quality Resize Mode is doing because you have the first 3 options in the 2nd section turned off and increase the resize multiplier to see a difference.
    Those three options are: Resize textures, Resize sprites, and Resize fonts. The higher the resize multiplier is, the less pixilated your sprites and textures will look (imo it just smears everything). Personally, I resize just the fonts for the menu to make it easier to read.
    In summary, just keep it off lol
    Also Anistropic filtering will not work if the texture filtering is set to none. None (mipmap) will still work.

      Yea I didn't feel it was important to even check them out. The game looks plenty good without it

      It's an upscaler, so it "doubles" the resolution of textures and sprites.
      You use it on old mods that used low res textures. Not really necessary on modern mods.

      The different modes (hq2x etc) are different methods of handling how the pixels are resized, the idea being that you get rid of jagged pixel borders, since, conceptually, it will smooth the border between opaque and transparent pixels when using particular smoothing methods, but it just doesn't actually work out that way because it's procedural pixel resizing.

    so i tested ur new version on my stream yesterday, here are wut i got from it
    (i played on Alien Vandetta with these Progress
    -Leg 3/5 , Enraged 3/5 , Nemesis 5/8)
    1. i encounter one of those Random Spawning thingy where it spawn either Leg/Enrage/Nemesis base on the tier ur at which is pretty fun to fight and it change how i encounter the current fight
    2. the Phase Pistol do be a life saver on thing that locked inside caged + the enemy who carry it is a normal spawn so getting it is easy
    3. i have never fight SO MANY BOSSES in 1 map ever before in any other clusterfuck mod but this one somehow just way too fun and challenging , i fought , 2 true legendary random spawn , 2 mainyu , 1 Leg Cardinal , UV himself as tier 7 , giant Brain Spider , 2 lord Hellfire HellKnight
    4. i kinda run intro some situation where all of my items are just Scroll while the enemy i fighting is ether a Mainyu or something that completely immune to Scroll , there are some that i actually use for example Healing scroll , Resistence Scroll , Gambling Scroll , but most of it are quite useless for me like Freezing scroll so idk , it's nice to have scroll but they drop too often and at around tier6 onward , it become quite useless (just my opinion)
    Oh forgo to mention that the Armor thingy fucked over Leg Cardinal so much that he can't throw any nuke at me since i always broke his shield xD
    but ye , very fun so thanks UV

    These options shoud better work for Delta Touch, cuz I override the resolution to 50-75%.
    The only thing disappointed for me is that it didn't work on LZDoom cuz someone said that its a useful source port for using many mods.
    For those who dont know, the mobile app, Delta Touch contains (almost all) Doom source ports in 1 app, even the Doom 3 engine source port. Only higher end mobile devices should work at 100% resolution.
    If there are Delta Touch users like me, please override the resolution settings before launching the game and its mod for the sake of fast performance.

    You can set decals to 0 with the cvar itself, and it'll obey. Either that or there's another cvar that just turns them off entirely. I forgot which.

Not sure but what should I have inventory in order to win spicy encounter. I had leg enraged armo 400r and 500 hp. But his hp is high and the boy can 3. If he's able to get near me.

    Question: Does anyone know if the Vulkan API is intended to be used with the software renderer or the Hardware Accelerated renderer? I was playing around with Vulkan on the Software renderer and it runs LIGHTENING FAST. Not sure if that's normal.

    Is it possible to add 2 options in the mod settings:
    -Less loot dropped by monsters. I feel kinda overwhelmed by the amount of crap dropped by every mob, even basic ones. Would like an adjustment slider or preset.
    -Friendly fire damage scalar, perhaps even disable infighting completely. On larger battles half of the monsters instantly die to their own omgwtfpwnbbq AOE attacks which is lame.

    In the latest version of GZDoom (4.11), sector modes have been reduced to Classic (faster) and two others.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue 11 місяців тому +1

      That's really just trimming down the fat. The other modes really aren't missed by default, and you can re-enable them through MAPINFO.
      I use Classic because I run Flashlight++, so I don't need the proximity lighting of Software.

      True. I usually use the DarkDoomZ mod's advanced settings for refining light levels. Usually to make the maps a little brighter, ironically, because my monitor is excessively dark.

    High Quality Resize is excellent for when you have huge vistas. With Texture Filtering set to "None (trilinear)" and HQR set to 2x or 3x, you see a HUGE difference.
    Also FOR GOD'S SAKE, on the "rendering API" under Set Video Mode, _run Vulkan._ No discussion. It is *_LEAGUES_* better than OpenGL. Do you know Eviternity II? That wad's a beast for GZDoom to run. I run that on my GZ with the texture settings mentioned above, dynamic lights cranked up to the absolute max, and by using Vulkan I have a performance not too different from DSDA-Doom even on the most graphics-intensive areas.

      When you're running in pallette mode (where colors can only be 1 of 256 values, 8-bit color depth), areas where colors blend will be sort of checkered based on the rate of blending between colors. It's an old color blending method from before 16/32 bit color depth.

    • @TheFinalOutpost
      @TheFinalOutpost 7 місяців тому +1

      @@joebonar6759 Thanks, since I don't run in Palette, I guess I can leave it off.

    The performance impact of particles should be minimal, so there's no reason to set the limit super low, since they are some of the most basic thinkers you can have in a level. Same deal with decals, the only major performance issue you might get is lagging when getting too close to a bunch of bunched up decals. Also, about dynamic lights. The performance impact of making lights affect actors is minimal, the biggest penalty comes from lights being rendered at all, and if the lights are casting shadows.
    Overall, most of the settings you recommending changing like disabling multisampling and fog are basically splitting hairs. If you are at the point where you have to disable something as light as fog rendering - no amount of settings is going to make you run GZDoom well.

    Better use always render OpenGL than Vulkan?

    • @felipeh.p.rodrigues5015
      @felipeh.p.rodrigues5015 7 місяців тому

      Well, this depends. I always use Vulkan in Doom. But this is relative. Important to say that my GPU is Radeon, and OpenGL for Radeon is not good. And some games like Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal with Vulkan have an awesome performance optimization (very high FPS even with graphics with everything at maximum). So, by my experience, using a Radeon RX 5700 XT that is equivalente to a RTX 3060, whenever I can play a game with Vulkan, it is better than OpenGL and even better than DirectX! By some reading I made, Vulkan in less CPU demanding and works better with multithreading (what does not help a lot since IDTech 1 engine that Doom II uses do not make use of multithreading).
      Vulkan reaches better FPS, but FPS has more variation than DirectX. But I play with max FPS in 90 (50% more than our usual 60 FPS that our eyes are used to see is enough, even thought my monitor is 144Hz). So, most of time, with FPS above 90, saves my GPU and CPU processing, avoid heating! And between 60 and 90 fps is still almost no visual impact. So, for me, Vulkan, when possible, is the better choice!!!

    me running a 3060rtx : yeah i want to crank stuff UP not down :D
    me running a 450 back then. i nearly fried my gpu playing russian overkill. or i think it was my 750TI.
    changing from a 1060 to 3060 feels so amazing. and my friend is like : you bought a 1000 euro card... for DOOM and not even eternal?????

    • @UltraViolenceDoom
      @UltraViolenceDoom  11 місяців тому +2

      Lol, I would be curious to know how this stuff runs for you on big maps because I think GZDoom has it's own struggles regardless of how good your PC is. I have an RTX2070 which isn't as cool as it was a couple of years ago, and I still get pretty big performance drops when a lot of monsters become active all at once :/

    • @ghoulbuster1
      @ghoulbuster1 11 місяців тому +1

      Many actors affect your CPU NOT your GPU.
      Check your CPU usage, GZDoom doesn't use a lot of GPU power unless your playing with 4k textures.
      But a lot of actors moving around will bong down the processor.

    Please redo this video with an FPS counter and charts so we actually know how much these settings effect. Without it, this video is basically useless and shows us nothing. Nobody could tell by looking how much FPS is gained or lost from these settings in the video. Might also want to test with lower end hardware as well (such as an old intel igpu) as this will show more contrast in performance with the settings.
