A VERY DRAMATIC END TO A SHORT FLIGHT THAT LMA CHAIRMAN DAVE JOHNSON HAD WITH HIS MASSIVE DELTA WING BOMBER IN GUSTING 20 MPH WINDS AT THIS GREAT RC SHOW.
NOT SURE OF THE REASON FOR THE FIRE BUT NO DAMAGE WAS DONE AND THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED INSIDE A SPECIALLY DESIGNED STAINLESS STEEL TUBE INSIDE THE WING !
THE VULCAN IS 1/5 TH SCALE WITH A WING SPAN OF JUST OVER 20 FT AND WEIGHS AROUND 139 KG / 300 ILBS,
SHE HAS OVER 100 SQ FT OF WING AREA WITH A WING LOADING OF 3ILB / SQUARE FOOT - SIMILAR TO A LARGE GLIDER,
SHE IS POWERED BY FOUR JETSMUNT 160 GAS TURBINES WHICH PRODUCE 155 ILBS OF THRUST COMBINED AND CARRIES 20 KG OF FUEL TO FEED THEM !
SHE ALSO HAS AROUND 8 KG OF LEAD BALLAST ONBOARD TO BALANCE HER CORRECTLY,
THE WEIGHT OF ALL THREE UNDERCARRIAGES ALONE COMES TO 25 KG,
IN THE 2013 SEASON SHE LOGGED 40 FLIGHTS,
IT TOOK DAVE AND HIS TEAM OVER THREE YEARS TO DESIGN AND BUILD THE MODEL !

This has always been my favourite aircraft of all time.
We have had a lakefront airshow here in Chicago sine the mid 1960s. The real AVRO Vulcan made an appearance at several of the shows. Always a spectacular aircraft and a star of the show. Which often included the Navy Blue Angels or the USAF Thunderbirds.
A sad day when that aircraft was permanently grounded.
Not sure why but that makes me happy to hear an american praise they vulcan. I do wish they could recommission a few mind 😔

That is a spectacular jet! WOW! It looks awesome on the ground and amazing in the air! I hope there was no significant damage but the pilot did a great job getting that monstrosity to the ground. I think Deano needs one of these, lol. It's simply a scaled up version of the Velocity 50. What could possibly go wrong? lol As always, Pete...thanks for sharing your experiences! That was great!

tbobborap1 no i have not flown my Velocity yet. Im having troubles rounding up a few people to go with for safety reasons. Maidens always scare me and this build produces 2049 Watts with a fully charged lip o and 7 x 5 APC prop. My work schedule is so much different than most everyone around here. Im hoping to maiden it very soon.

Would be amazing if it howled like the real ones.
blow across a glass bottle rim top, until it makes that howl.
that's exactly how the Vulcan creates and emits the HOWLS..
so, think how hard you blow,, and imagine the RC MODEL'S ENGINES forces required, ( lots), to recreate the Vulcan HOWLS ..
but she does get wonderfully very close to re-creating most of the birds signature sounds...
I'm very fond of them Vulcans 🖖☺😌

looks like he needs some tail weight and some elevator trim.
When you spend this kind of money on a model, why wouldn't you install an onboard fire suppressant system? A threaded Co2 cartridge and a remote actuator is about all you need.
Glad that it' ok , it would be a sorry day if it burnt out !

Why would he take it off right after he had a engine fire? Maybe if he cut that turbine off but he flew it anyway? Ain't nobody got time for that!
TheSamchilders the ground fire was filmed earlier in the day and the model was repaired or so they thought, then when they took off later in the day the problem arose again in flight ! no damage was done ,
Maybe too much power?
