Glad to see you're still in touch with Leszek Erenfeicht! His guest articles on Forgotten Weapons were fantastic. My favourite Polish gun writer, no doubt. I just got into his book on Polish pistols, "Not Just the ViS". Oh, and how surprised I was when I bought myself a copy of "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose, and found that Leszek was the one who translated it to Polish. Who knows, maybe we'll see an interview with him one day.

Another interesting episode, but pulling of a 1956 Poznan massacre in Warsaw might a bit tricky as these are 2 different cities. The Poznań massacre took place in Poznań

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 2 роки тому +13

Indeed. Something like 250 kilometers between the two back in the day and not a lot of urban sprawl has happened, so they remain effectively 250 kilometers apart. Still, it is understandable. I know Poles who mix up their cities because they grew up in the countryside and the only city they ever dealt with was Warsaw because that was where a lot of the government paperwork came from. You could be 20 kilometers from Poznan and never actually need to go there, but it was hard to go more than a few months before a government agency in Warsaw was requiring your attention. Not unlike Americans who forget where their State's capitol is but all know where Washington D.C. is because they have to file federal taxes.

Survival is pretty important. As we evolved, the ones that felt it wasn’t important died off. Look at the animal kingdom. If you can’t photosynthesize then life eats life to survive and if you aren’t the one eating life then you are getting eaten. This is only a surprise to those that are far removed from these facts and sit down with their processed foods every day, detached from the fact that you are eating something that was living.

    • @yumtig7444

Yes, RWGŁ=Ręczny Wyrzutnik Granatów Łzawiących which translates to Hand (held) Thrower (of) Tear (gas) Grenades.
Never seen the thingy irl. However, there comes Ian. My sincere thanks to our Great Historian.
BTW, in Polish you can say both:
      Wyrzutnia (a she-thrower)
      Wyrzutnik (a he-thrower)
Well, each of them means the same. Yes, there are indeed two Polish genders for a piece of machinery which is "throwing things" and both of them are absolutely correct. So, the OP was essentially right.

Funny theory but that's like comic book level dystopia. It's already quite imaginative that civilians could overrun a riot unit in these countries but to do so just to get a no-stock, no-sights bolt action Mosin because that's supposed to give the edge to the resistance? Smuggling guns over border or getting them through other criminal means still existed in these countries. Besides the point for a non-lethal riot weapon is that you can put down riots without casualties that could potentially just cause more rioting and escalate the violence. To have a weapon that may be lethal if the user screws up is the exact option you don't want.

I am reminded of French weapons made using their blackpowder-singleshot-breechloading rifles of the late 19th century in the Great War. The soldiers wanted better systems to project, and an 11mm blank cartridge had considerable projecting power in it, so they cut down the rifles and turned them into varying forms of grenade launcher and more. Apparently quite effective and inspired France to aggressively develop more and better purpose-built explosive projectors.
This system seems a tad more complicated than it needs to be though a clever idea in its own right, which probably explains why it didn't go far.

I was looking at that thing and said, wait, how many guns did they hack up to make that thing? They cut down a Mosin Nagant like the Brits did with the SMLE...but that lower half is NOT a Mosin Nagant. Anyway, a cool little project.
I have to give it to the Polish government. Most governments that deploy their military on civilians get drunk off the power. China is a good example. Poland though said na, that did not feel quite right. We need to do this a different way.

@@SnoopReddogg Maybe, but at 3:30 Ian says it came from a sporting rifle, and since Poland was making the entire weapon from parts of other weapons, it seems odd they'd make the magazine from scratch, and if Ian has taught me one thing, it's that the magazine is maybe the trickiest single part of a weapon to get right (though a 3-shot is probably easier to get right than one with larger capacity) which makes it seem even less likely they'd choose to design one from scratch. If they'd taken the magazine from the Mosin (which would be 5 shot) and cut some out of the middle of it and welded it back together, I'd believe that, but Ian would see the welded joint. That was my thought process before I asked. But, you may be right; I don't know.

Question: could this be transferred to an individual same way as a flare pistol or a blank firing gun? Seems it would depend on whether or not it could accept live ammunition with a projectile. Looks like it would be a lot of fun to stick a big Idaho spud in the end and launch it. Love the bolt action on top of what does look like PM-63 RAK lower grip and trigger. Really cool! Thanks for making a video was recently looking at Polish firearms.

So there is a screw in the barrel to keep you from chambering a cartridge with a projectile, but my concern would be that in the US, this would likely still be considered a live Mosin receiver, capable of being re-barreled

@@erroneous6947 not sure if kids these days still do this stuff, but maybe 25 years ago we would make spud Zuka. You would use a barbecue ignitor basically a little Flinton steel spark maker or even the kind that you press the button and sparks inserted into the side of an ABS or the white PVC tubing away to spraying hairspray you would’ve shoved a large potato into the muzzle end that had been filed or ground down with a bit of a taper so that it would peel the potato cutting it to fit as you shoved it down. We would launch them out into the lakes up in the Midwest. Lots of fun. These days maybe kids couldn’t get away with that.
