In Germany we use nutmeg in everything that contains cream or potatoes.
for example mashed potatoes, cream sauce
Try mashed potatoes with salt, pepper, milk, nutmeg and a piece of butter in it.

I love nutmeg I bought about 20 little round nuts in Barbados. I paid about 50 cents for them freshly picked by a guy that owns the tree. I have had them for about 20 years and the flavor is still just as strong as the day I bought them. I have a small grater that I use to scrape the nuts. I use them for my candied yams and sweet potato pies it goes great with anything you would use cinnamon with. This little ball should be scraped when you get ready to use it don’t scrape in advanced.. I guess that’s why I don’t like the grounded nutmeg from the store.. it’s alright but not like the real thing I have. It takes me about 2 years to use up one little pod. I also take the little pods when they get real small I just boil it and it makes the best air freshener and can be added to candles. It is also great in my cornbread dressing at Thanksgiving. A little goes along way so I believe all of the pods I have left will last me forever…I was AMAZED to find out how much the ground nutmeg cost in the store!!!

Germany is also using nutmeg a lot in potato dishes and we eat so many potatos even some people call us "Potatos". :D Some of us even own a special nutmeg grater (I got one too).
And ... theres a film with Louis de Funes and the famous line "MUSKATNUSS, HERRRR MÜLLER! MUSKATNUSS!" ("Nutmeg, Mr Müller! Nutmeg!") XD
For baked apples I can also recommend recipes with a filling made of marzipan (and other stuff). Really tasty!
Nice video, June! I really appreciate the spiceshow because I'm a spice nerd. :)

I add a teaspoon of freshly ground nutmeg to the melted butter and chocolate part of the ingredients in my brownie recipe and then I let it sit while I take care of combining and preparing the other things. Nutmeg blooms more thoroughly in fats than in other liquids and, when added to butter and chocolate, it takes on a euphoric quality that is incredibly addictive and appealing. My brownies rarely last more than an hour.

Being Italian/Swiss... we ate Nutmeg in all our creme and meat dishes (not in sweet dishes ever). And when I became the Cook for an Organization my friends would never believe me when I wanted to add it to meats and such...
So I explained it was like MSG. You don't put SO much that you actually taste it... That would be too much. But you should notice its ABSENCE only. It hits a kind of part of our pallets no other spice does and once you are used to it in your food, if it is missing, food will be bland.
    :)

I bet he's tasted a lot stuff, I would turn away just based on scent and appearance. He's a gambler, sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses. The lady from the growing region, can be trusted with your life. She's such a warm, honest, open, knowing kinda soul, like an old soul. She'd never bother with anything not worthwhile. This piece has a great combo of personalities. I was already in love with nutmeg, but nutmeg has led me to new pros. Thanks Nutmeg! What other spices are you exploring? I learned a lot! 100% Fun.

Oh girl. If you like that prune jam, you will also like something we call "povidla" in czech. I dont know, if it is possible to find in New York, but I bet that it would suprise you. It is spread or jammy thing made from plums baked for ages (sometimes overnight). Just plums, no sugar, no other things - well, recipes of czech or slovak grandmas tell to do that this way. Thiccc and sour and sweet.
Besides this note, really thanks for your job. I like the fact that you look on things and ingredients from various perspectives and marry them in a very beautiful ways. Thanks

The word the guy was looking for when describing the taste of nutmeg is camphoraceous! I heard the word camphoraceous used to describe plants that have that "minty, eucalyptusy" medicinal fragrance and taste that's cooling and a bit numbing. Herbs like rosemary and even lavender have small amounts of camphor in them. :)

The Google caption maker seems to assume English means “always every word” and translated it to “Catholics at Peace.” 🤣

Seeing the titanium spork, and knowing I have the same titanium spork, makes me really want to make all these recipes so I can eat them with my titanium spork.
Titanium spork is fun to say, and I don't care how much my friends make fun of me for saying it's great.

That's interesting. I've never had nutmeg jam but where I'm from, we use the Pericarp as a sweet pickle, or juice it. The maize of the nutmeg is said to be excellent in reducing blood sugar level. Usually the powder is added in curry dishes especially Indian cuisines.

Oh yes, in France we use "quatre épices" all the time in savory dishes (it goes well with lamb), but I think it was originally made for "pain d’épice" (spiced bread), a dense honey-based cake. Apart from this, we don’t really have spice blends, although we do have herb blends, especially in the south.

Je me posais la question hier ! J'avoue on a pas de mélanges bien spécifique, on utilise un peu tout séparément (y a le mélanges 5 baies aussi, pas mal dans les soupes de courges !)
