You are a breath of fresh air. I am a pet sitter which I love but it's taking over my life. I am letting go of clients, letting go of clutter both physical and mental. But you shared some wonderful ways to truly clear stimulation from our lives. Thank you!❤

Being retired does allow one to live a more slow, peaceful life. Im blessed to be a homemaker and homeschooling mother of 8. I do work as a nurse 2 days a week. I have thought a lot about living the typical American dream and taking part in the rat race of daily life and it doesn't accommodate this slow living. Im trying to work less and live more and it really does come down to re invisioning what my own dream is , and you are so right about consumerism and filling our spaces with things we later get rid of. It seems crazy to work so hard for stuff and then later in life we find all our stuff feels stressful and burdensome. ❤

I know back in my younger years I used to always have a radio on or something playing when I was driving. But then I would get to a certain part of my day where I hated having music playing or anything playing in the background because it just filled me with so much stress. I feel like I might be heading that direction again wanting just that silence. I love the quiet and the peace❤

It's morning and it's cool right now. My windows are open to get as much cool air in as I can. I'm paying close attention to the temperature. When it warms up the windows and drapes will be closed and I plan to avoid using the A/C. I am decluttering. I am getting rid of things that aren't useful. Yes, I have some extra clothes due to a couple of people cleaning out their closets in my direction. When they did that I tried everything on and gave back what didn't work for me so they could give it to someone else. I won't need to buy many clothes for a long time. I've bought a basic sweater on sale this year. I hadn't bought a sweater in about 5 years. I've also bought a pair of shoes. I hadn't bought a pair of shoes in 3 1/2 years. I think that's the only clothes I'm adding this year. Right now I'm not planning to add any new clothes next year. I'm very careful with what I'm adding to the home. The more possessions one has the more one has to take care of.

My husband retired in March of last year and we were both at home and for a short time we both got to enjoy not waking up to a alarm clock every morning, going to bed when we wanted to and waking up when we wanted to. He passed away in July and now I carry on that journey of retirement. I don't schedule any appointments early in the day so that I can continue on with waking and sleeping at my own pace ( 36 years we got up at 4:45am) and I wish too that we had forgone the brand new cars and the clothes etc that took up so much of our money over the years. I also have a empty mail box most of the week other than utility bills no more credit card offers, not much junk mail and I embrace each day with my dogs gardening, reading, visiting with friends and family, going out to lunch with them once or twice a month things we never had time to do when we were both working. I know when all my children lived at home I always felt guilty if I wasn't busy all the time. Now that I'm 3/4 of an empty nester my husband and i, LOL I find that it's okay to sit. I don't feel guilty when I have to take breaks. Or when I just want to be on my own by myself. It just feels comfortable now.

I have been retired for 5 years. I was not prepared but I paid off a lot of debt. I just wear my old clothes. Nothing is newer than 8 years. I like peace and quiet. I spend my days milking my goat , gathering eggs from my chickens, watching my rabbits, dogs and cats. I am blessed to live in an area that people respect older females and assist as much as possible. I understand exactly what you are saying. I am much happier.

I am the same way about watching the news. I don't do it. It causes me a lot of anxiety and worry and stress. My husband is a news watcher but bless his heart he really just does it in his office when he's working and if there's anything important that I need to know he tells me. But he knows that it will just bring me down and just give me a lot of anxiety

When I stopped multi-tasking, my life changed. Now, I understand why people do it, and I've had to train myself to stop it. Unfortunately, I sometimes I find myself still doing it out of habit. That said, multi-tasking is an industrial model for completing jobs in a timely manner, and it does work--at the health and well-being of the worker. I refer to that noise you're talking about as static, and it's exhausting! Clearing my head has helped me work through the clutter in my life and to find both practical and creative uses for items already in my household, which has been a blessing for many reasons.

Love your video. I tetired 6 months ago, and I have found the beauty of sitting on my deck, listening to the breeze, watching the clouds, and listening to the birds. Eliminating the "noise" I love it. I struggled at first and still do occasionally, but then I'm reminded that I'm still decompressing from all the years of service to others.
I am slowly finding the things I love and letting the rest go. This includes a few people too, which is hard. However, I'm much better off.

@PenniestoDollars My career involved a LOT of mental trauma. I'm dealing with some PTSI stuff. The average emergency dispatch career is 2-4 years, I worked as a dispatcher/supervisor/ trainer for 23 years. Sadly, it's rare to retire in this position. I also raised a family while working 40-70 hours per week. I wish I had prioritized the last 25 years a bit differently, family and money wise. However, it's never too late to change. No longer beating myself up about the past, prioritizing my here and now. 😀 Taking the time to figure out what is important, what makes me happy 😊 and content. I love the life I'm leading now. I learn new things every day.

This is why I got a divorce. I asked myself if I wanted to live with someone brought the opposite of peace and safety in my life. Unfortunately for my marriage, the answer was a resounding no. As a young woman, wife and mother back many years ago I loved going to yard sales and thrift stores and filling my home with all sorts of treasures. I've never been a regular Shopper in like a regular store but that was always something that appealed to me. But now in my mid 50s I don't go to thrift stores and yard sales anymore I haven't probably for about 15 years.. I realize that the things that I purchased never made me happy all they did was fill my home with clutter. And I can look around my home and find just a couple of things that I got way back all those years ago that I still have most of those things lost their shine lost their value to me and ended up leaving my home either in the trash or in a donation or something like that. Definitely not worth all the money I threw away.😢
