Cast:
Donna Murphy - The Witch
Amy Adams - The Baker's Wife
Denis O'Hare - The Baker
Chip Zien - Mysterious Man and Cinderella's Father
Jack Broderick - Narrator
Gideon Glick - Jack
Cooper Grodin - Rapunzel’s Prince
Ivan Hernandez - Cinderella’s Prince and Wolf
Tina Johnson - Granny
Josh Lamon - Steward
Jessie Mueller - Cinderella
Laura Shoop - Cinderella’s Mother
Tess Soltau - Rapunzel
Glenn Close - Voice of the Giant
What's cool about this production is how they incorporated the sunset into this production. In the first act, it is still light out and similarly the first act is very playful and light. As the show goes on, it gets darker both literally and figuratively. It's really neat.
@Broadway InstrumentalMixxer expect for Regents park.
And the planes
We did this at Richter Park, Danbury, another outdoor venue. Fabulous for actors, musicians and audience alike, to be in the woods for Into the Woods.
In case no one realized, Chip Zien (who was the Baker in the original Broadway Performance) plays the Mysterious Man, the father of the baker in this show.
Vinney Pugliese I noticed that and I freaking love it
I did - and I LOVE Chip.
Yes it's certainly a smart move
He also plays Cinderella‘s Father
Ok how is nobody talking about Jessie Mueller absolutely SLAYING this performance of Cinderella?
Wow the absolutely most disturbing thing they added to this production is the reveal that Rapunzel's twins had been dead for a while from her negligence
Wait....what??? WHAT? HOW? D:
No but really, where was this implied???
***** Omg I never noticed that. That is really messed up and makes Rapunzel's story much more tragic :/
I loved this bit of staging. So simple yet so effective. To me, though, it was less about Rapunzel's negligence and more about how the witch can never have what she wants. Once Rap is dead, the babies are no longer consequential.
I didn't think the twins were in that carriage, I just thought that was more like a creepy vision that the witch had since she had just lost her child
God, I love how Donna Murphy's basically playing Mother Gothel from Tangled all over again.
Me too, Austin.
Really? Because that's not what the which is supposed to be. The witch is supposed to be sincere, and truly love Rapunzel. This chick's just acting goofy and messing up her lines.
Wasn't really my point. haha No harm done. :) I was more referring that I just enjoy the fact that the same woman ended up playing Rapunzel's magical motherly witch guardian twice within like a year of each other. Just a fun observation.
OK.
Austin Nebbia gotcha
Before even reading the cast list I knew that was Jessie Mueller as Cinderella. Gosh I love her voice!
OH MY GOSH CHIP DID SUCH AN AMAZING JOB AS THE MYSTERIOUS MAN. It's funny to see him during 'No More' because he was the Baker in the orginal broadway verison of this show. So it was probably looking into a mirror here
+Katelyn Sincavage ikr
EVERYONE IS FOCUSING ON THE WRONG THING LOOK HOW FUCKING GORGEOUS THIS SET IS
The costumes in this production are completely beautiful. And Gideon Glick

Doing the lord's work
Not all heroes wear capes. Thanks
What I love about Murphy's performance is you can tell how much she absolutely LOATHES her costume and that just adds so much to the anger and bitterness of the character. I doubt that she had an enjoyable time on this production, which is a shame, because she is easily the best part of this production.
Donna Murphy and Amy Adams in the same production? I would pay anything to see this!
it was free
If you didn't want to stand in line forever to get free tixx, becoming a member donor let you in to this much in-demand show
tishtashtishtash I went to this. Only had to wait one hour for my tixx.
you were the lucky exception
Do you think they should have been in the movie version?
Not enough love in these comments for Sarah Stiles' Red Riding Hood. I love how the update styled her, and Stiles herself was just as delightful and hilarious as Danielle Ferland was.
Whoever plays Little Red is excellent, oh my gosh.
Agree, the person Playing her is Sarah Stiles :)
+NickJfanclub1 Oh cool, thanks for identifying. After I looked her up I realized I saw her in Hand to God last fall. She was really funny, especially from the 3rd row. I may have also seen her in Avenue Q but I think she moved on by the time I saw the show. Both her roles in both of those shows oddly featured puppet sex.
Recently saw Sarah in the tootsie tryout in Chicago and she is a comedic genius. Hope she gets more recognition.
@@NickJfanclub1 I initially thought she was Emily Osment.
Thats why its so familiar! She’s Spinel from Steven Universe
I love the kid narrator. he's fantastic!
Fun fact: The actor playing him, Jack Broderick, would later go on to originate the role of Bruce Bogtrotter in the Broadway premier of Matilda The Musical the following year!
*Spoiler warning, watch the whole show before reading this*
So to clear things up for some of the people confused in the comments section, THE LITTLE BOY (narrator) DID NOT DIE. Yes, the witch sacrificed him to the giant and he's presumed to be dead and whatnot, but the reason why he is telling the tale and he is in the show in the first place is because IT (THE SHOW ITSELF) IS HIS OWN STORY. IT COMES FROM HIS IMAGINATION. HE WAS NOT RAISED FROM THE DEAD OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
Clearly, you can look at the boy's backstory just by those few short minutes in the finale. The Baker in the tale must have been inspired by his own father. (The reason why the actor who plays the Baker also plays the father at the end.) So if you piece together all the clues, the kid must have run off into the woods somewhere, told the story (or at least made it up in his head), and then his father eventually found him and they were reunited. The way the father mouths him a narrative right after he finds him, you can tell that the kid must REALLY be influenced by his dad's stories, prompting him to make a story himself. (THE SHOW.) This gives a whole new meaning to the lyrics, "careful the things you say, children will listen." :)
+Kathryn Milewski Great write-up. I saw the original London version of this production and it was a wonderful concept.
I thought he was having a nightmare in the second act and it was a dream or something
The little boy is the Baker's baby, grown older, re-telling the story he's been hearing since he was a baby.
I think the reason the kid ran off tho is because they were some issues at home (like they had a big fight) so he ran away. I saw another video of this version but with different actors, but it showed the very beginning of the show (not this version which starts in the middle of the first song) and the show starts with the little boy walking into the woods with a bag and their voices playing in the background saying mean things to him (I don’t remember what they are but I think one of them was like telling him to get out or whatever) so the boy is walking then he opens his bag, takes out his toys and starts the show by saying “Once Upon A Time...”
@@rain_m03 Rain, WHERE can we see the other version of this that you saw? I'd love to see the beginning.
Okay, but where were the lines "you're all so nice. You aren't good, you aren't bad, you're just nice. I'm not good I'm not nice I'm just right." I love those lines in last midnight.
This is a production of the revival when that part was changed to a creepy lullaby to the bakers child.
@@nancyintrieri2125 that's kind of unfortunate, those lines and "this is ridiculous/what am I doing here/I'm in the wrong sto-ryyyyyy" are some of the most quotable parts of the show
Sondheim was an inveterate tinkerer with his own work, not always for the better.
I love the lullaby rewrite! It’s so much more tragic! And I think giving the scope of the entirety of the song to that point to be directed to his child gives an actress more to work with in my opinion
I have always loved the point where the baker exclaims that his "father" is dead and then immediately the father gets up and walks off.
This is my favourite production- such a natural choice to do it outside! Especially love the narrator :)
Also Jessie Mueller is probably my favorite Cinderella I've ever seen
same
i REALLY like this version of The Wolf and Little Red ;)
Chip Zien! So excited to see him in this. And he still sounds fantastic! What a beautiful cameo.
OK BUT IM SO INTO CHIP ZIEN AS THE MYSTERIOUS MAN
WOW, THAT ENDING.
...was beautiful. And actually worked. And wow, I cant believe Im saying this, but I almost wish this element was somewhat used in the original, seeing it now.
Ah, it gave me chills and I loved it~
IT MADE ME CRY SO HARD. :')
It's weird actually seeing the giant physically. I kind of prefer it with them looking offstage.
The cast in this is simply amazing: It took me a while to realize the narrator was the OBC Bruce. And Jessie Mueller is an awesome Cinderella
This is one of the most incredible, and one of a kind productions of Into the Woods...
It’s from London…originally done in Regents Park
WOW I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD LIKE A PRODUCTION OF INTO THE WOODS LIKE THIS!!! BUT......I LOVE IT!!!!!!
The amount of people laughing during "no one is alone"... I must be missing something
Amy Adams nailed Maybe They're Magic!! It may sound like an easy song but it's so fast and she did some good vocals.
I don't know what comes next to " already in love with amy adams" but after watching this I'm sooo reaching that level!
"the cape is gone... I MEAN THE COW, FOR GOD'S SAKE" ~ what a RECOVERY
this cast is absolute perfection, oh my goodness I can't get enough of it!!
Idk if anybody noticed but while the witch is singing her lamet she goes to pick up the twins an they crumble in her hands and I think that’s the most disturbing scene in the whole show because Rapunzel went crazy and she never fed her children and when the witch see’s Rapunzel and Rapunzel says that she born twins and points at the DEAD BABIES it makes Rapunzels story really sad and disturbing...
ive seen this version so many times and i still cry hysterically over the ending. Def my favortie version of Into the Woods
I so love this Riding Hood -- the best I've seen.
the last midnight was AMAZING
oh my gosh, they all did an amazing job!!
THE CAPE IS GONE! GET IT BACK!!! I mean.......THE COW, FOR GOD'S SAKE!!
one of the times i saw it live she said "one midnight gone" on the second night and covered it up pretty fast with "two! TWO!!!"
The ending to this is absolutely beautiful 😭😭😭😭😭
ok but can we talk about how sara auditioned for cinderella and then jessie got it and then sara saw jessie in beautiful and basically precast her for waitress on the spot
i love them both so much omg
And then sara played cindrella in the revival
@@Zulalula SO FULL CIRCLE I LOVE
@@ZulalulaSara played The Baker’s Wife! And honestly, it’s such a better part for her. Still full circle, though!
Darn!!!! If I'd have known the Regents Park show was transferring, I would have flown over to see it again. This was one of the finest most memorable shows I've ever seen. I would have loved to have seen Amy Adams as the baker's wife.
I never realized Chip Zien is in this! :D
The Baker's actor really brings the whole show down with his wooden performance
Anyone else ddying at hello little girl
27:10 is the best red riding hood freak out I've ever seen.
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND A BETTER VERSION OF THIS RECORDING PLEASE???!!!
Here. It’s a proshot of this version, but in London’s Regents Park: www.bilibili.com/video/BV1W4411f7R9?from=search&seid=9404771264087530410
As far as I know, there isn't one, but you can watch a better-quality video of the original Regent's Park, London production that this was based on. It's on UA-cam as "Into the Woods London 360p."
Thank you so much! I'm a born and raised New York who's been going to shows here for my whole life and I have no idea how anyone could pull off recording in that theatre. It's so open and ushers are everywhere! I wanted to try once for Much Ado About Nothing and just couldn't make it work. If you've managed to capture or find recordings of any other shows there, I would love to know!
We watched it in school and everyone was wheezing when the witch was doing that weird jumping thing 😂
Omg Jessie Mueller is Cinderella! 😍
Lil Red is my fav in this version. 😍👏👏👏
Great musical to perform outside. My son's school did this production and they took loads of bark, what you use in park's etc, into their PE auditorium
I was fine for the entire show...then i watched the ending...Bawling like a child
Cool outside theatre, really cool.
@16:00 I can't take Red's laugh oh my gosh xD
I saw this show in person three times and just now, at my home, on my phone watching this angle (the only angle I didn’t see it from was this, stage left) truly how intricate a roll the main cast played in the wolf and red scene at 29:00 (ish). Brava all, even more hilarious.
The narrator was awesome!
I find it hilarious that Donna Fucking Murphy is playing the witch.
I like the idea of a little boy as the narrator but it would have been cool to see Chip play the narrator too
I love how they're all modern clothing :D
god this set is cool 😍
I always come back to this production but this is the first time I've noticed your last name and I swear for a second I thought it said Guido Cavalcanti and I was like wait a minute-
it's so weird seeing denis o'hare as the good guy since i'm used to him on ahs.
i’m surprised that no one’s talked about how, between this production and tangled, donna murphy’s now played two different variations of the same character (albeit one being more morally gray and the other being a straight-up villain)
Donnnnaaa Murrrrrphhyy!!!!!!
Wonderful. Thank you. But not "complete" - beginning and end missing
I think this show was awkward because there were a lot of kids around whose parents might've thought it was a kids show...
I loved everyone except I didn't understand Denis O'Hare's weird lisp he had throughout the production, and he and Jessie are not together on No One is Alone unfortunately... but otherwise this production was WONDERFUL.
Chris Withers Denis was either horribly miscast or just didn't care at all. His whole performance was lifeless, flat, and horribly acted. His timing on the songs was even worse.
I love Donna Murphy messing up her line at 42:53
Dennis o'hare can not play a victim, I can only see him as a menacing dark force.
Angela Flowers I'm guessing you're an AHS fan like me then xD
Well, he’s pretty ‘villainous’ here in that his performance is downright offensive, in addition to being awful.
i like this ending maybe a little more than the original ending
how is it different?..
God the performances are way over the top; all that screeching! Nothing like the original Broadway production or London’s’ Open Air Regent’s Park production which this is based on.
I'd love to see this at my country :(
lol who's the cow? That's like the weirdest hybrid of presenting the cow. Also Gideon Glick is so good as Jack
Ah, a transfer of the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre production from London.
this little red just has to be based off of vanellope from wreck it ralph
I THOUGT THE SAMEEE THING
I read online they incorporated Hansel and Gretel into this, but I can't find them anywhere, I've seen all of this I've just skimmed it
Yes, in the show their was a little joke or sentence forgot who said it, I think it was the witch.
Do you know where in this video it is?
Who's playing jack's mother? It isn't in the description and she's one of the best I've seen in that role!
So I'm pretty sure there was a pro shot of this production, does anyone know where to find it
I'm just gonna comment here incase someone replies😁
@@janeseymourtheonlyonehetru5811 ok so, not this performance in particular, but this version is based on the performance in Regent’s Park, London (which I think has a much better cast). Same version of the script, and exact same set. You can find it on Reddit’s r/proshotmusicals.
WOW
Two words DONNA MURPHY
Who played Little Red? Oh, got it; Sarah Stiles.
god you gotta love the playboy princes ;)
It’s so sad that the audience laughed when the narrator died and he’s a child
Spineeeeel!
Kristine Zbornik as Jack's Mother
Was this filmed at an air show?
this is so so so my favorite movie
SATISFACTION!
46:00 Tony Stark
BRO HOLY CRAP
Not exactly complete: what happened to the opening? Almost missed step-ma's best lines, oh so haughtily delivered: I have emptied a pot of lentils in to the ashes.... and the view is blocked - oh, dear!
Any idea who's really playing Rapunzel's Prince? That's not Cooper Grodin or Paris Remillard...
GIDEON GLICK IS MY FAVORITE JACK EVER
gideon glick is my baby
i love him so much
donna murphy is an underrated witch
idk if anyone knows but this production is almost completely similar to the one on digital theatre plus, even the set.
Bryce, it's a transfer of that London production to NYC.
this little red reminds me of velma from scooby-doo
The Baker is god awful. He's barely singing. It sounds like he's bored and mumbling. Just me?
100 times yes. Everyone else is amazing.
You ever seen AHS: Coven? The Baker is Spaulding
Well.... I can not disagree
correct me if im wrong but is jessie mueller playing as the lead in the waitress?
yes
Mike Shen don't you mean "isn't Jessie mueller kicking ass and making the world cry in waitress?" and the answer is yes.
Kodei Spresser Great, now I have to go watch “She Used to be Mine” from the Tonys again. For the 100th time. ❤️
