    In Australia, a digital set is $699 and above. The Evolution starts at around $249. So for me so I can get into slot cars, the evolution and upgrading sounds like the best option even though it might be more expensive in the long run. Thanks for the info and video

    Great video and advice for who wants to go digital. You have helped me out a lot since I started digital racing 2 years ago. Thanks for all the info. I have 4 wireless controllers and need 2 more to be complete. I just went ahead and bought another starter set. I just missed out on the bull and horse so got race to victory. The ktm xbow car is nice. Guess that will be my living room set . Hard to get the wife to go out in the garage. It’s either to hot or to cold .

    Hi 👋 I went the opposite way 😊.i bought an evolution set first .then I bought a Digital set (retro grand prix) after two hours I didn't find the Digital interesting so removed all the Digital components, i know happily run all my cars analog, and whats great about the Digital cars well i can still flick the switch and race them both directions on the track . Now if only I can find a way to convert my digital controller's to analog 🤗Greetings from Northern Europe Harry...

      You can but you would be adding a box that allows digital or analog with a switch (one of them is called the axel box) to your CU digital and then you will have full use of your carrera digital controllers for digital and analog racing on your Carrera digital setup🏁

    I knew you'd get to 'just buy a set', especially if they find a 3 car set on sale.Just ordered my 1st RC truck and it's your fault. Thanks. Love your videos.

      New RC truck? Cool. I love being the one responsible for other people spending money on toys. What truck did you order?

    Fantastic vid! I really enjoyed this. This solidifies and confirms what I was kind of thinking.... getting a Digital set would be cheaper than buying each of those pieces. And just seeing you lay it out like this... makes me feel better about the whole thing... once I take it in this direction. Which is going to eventually happen. I really want ghost-car and multi-car functionality. Thanks for this great info!

    I have an older green 67 GTO evolution. Pre-plug soldered connections. It has a 'Driveshaft' running thru the middle of the chassis. Where are they putting the digital chips on the newer ones? And BTW glad your Back!!

    Thanks for the video. I am brand new to slot car racing. I have a set of carrera analog track , approximately a 25 ft set. Just to clarify(because I am not the brightest bulb in the room) with the digital set, I can integrate all my analog track into the digital set? Again, thanks for the information. I have subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to watching old and new videos that you do.

      The older Evolution track (4-tab) is compatible with the newer track (3-tab) manufactured 2008 and later. The way the tracks lock together is slightly different. If your analog track looks like either of the examples in the following video, you are good.

    Hi, I really like your videos and the way you explain things. I hoping you could do a video on this topic:
    Those (after market) boxes you can buy to "easily" switch between analog and digital. What controllers needed, if I to use car(s) sometimes analog and sometimes digitally do I to add and remove the chip, ect ?
    Basically what do I need to have/buy and how seamless is it to switch back and forth ?
    Thanks, Richard

      That's a subject I've been contemplating for a while now because I noticed how much those aftermarket analog/digital switching boxes cost and there are several low-cost alternatives to accomplish the same thing. Stay tuned as I very well could have a video for that.

    Carrera digital is an expensive hobby, but I look at all the money I wasted over the years and this is nothing compared to that. I don’t mind though, because I’m going to pass this down to my grandson, who is too young right now but I’m looking forward to racing with him and giving my collection to him and that…is priceless.

    Is there any issue using a Carrera Evolution Digital 132 Upgrade Kit (#26734)? Although the control unit is different and the controllers are wired it seems like an option to get me into the digital world. Are there any issues going with this option?

    • @johnniehobby
      @johnniehobby  6 місяців тому +1

      It depends on what your plans for expansion are. The issue is with the control unit (which is called the Black Box in this kit), and weirdly enough I was working on a video about that exact component at this very moment. Here are the areas to consider:
      While the BB will work, the functions are limited. If you eventually get a pit lane, it won't support the advanced pit lane features, however the standard pit lane features will work. Also, it doesn't have the lap crossing sensors integrated, so if you wanted to have automatic lap counting, you would also need to purchase the lap counting track (#30342). It also doesn't support the BlueTooth connection if you were planning on connecting to a tablet or smart phone for using race management software, although it does support connection to a Windows PC with a serial-to-usb cable. Hope this helps.

    I have a 132/124 with the 18v power supply, do I need the 14v power supply run 132 cars. Thank You

    • @johnniehobby
      @johnniehobby  7 місяців тому +2

      It depends on who you ask. Some say they run their 1:32 on the 18v transformer all the time with no problems and others say you'll burn up the decoders doing the same thing. Here's our experience: we've run the 1:32 on the 1:24 transformer for short periods of time (accidentally when we forgot to switch them when changing scales). We've gotten away with it without issue but still would not recommend doing it.
