I loved Walter Brennan's innumerable performances throughout his life. Though a Hollywood actor he often gave well honed theatrical portrayals of his characters.
I also admired him even more when in his advancing age he decided to make his various opinions known in the press. And the press excoriated him for them continuously. He did not shy away from his controversial thoughts and I admired him even for that. His bigoted opinions actually enhanced my youthful critical thinking skills too.
I may not have agreed with him at times but as I recall he exercised his right to free speech better than any other successful performer ever has.
