"Rudy Giuliani is having a hard time finding someone to help with the accounting duties in his bankruptcy case and may have to do it on his own, lawyers said in a filing Tuesday.
According to the filing, the accountant that was helping Giuliani meet the accounting obligations in the case, but “had a change of heart and indicated that he no longer wished to help prepare the monthly operating reports.”
Giuliani has reached out to “a number of accounting firms” for their help but “no one seems interested in taking the assignment.”
Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, filed for bankruptcy in December, just days after a jury ordered him to pay a staggering $148 million to two former Georgia election workers who he falsely claimed committed election fraud in 2020."

But my bet would be that Rudy's financial records are so chaotic, that no-one can make any sense of them.
He most likely has money that they don't know the source of, and when questioning him about it they don't get anything sensible.
Trying to get this onto a report that they can legitimately stake their professional reputations on is not something they're prepared to do.
Accountants (CPA) have to pass a portion of the law bar, so are essentially financial lawyers.
Allen Weisselberg will be available in five months, once he gets out of jail.

I worked for a Big4 auditor and they often turned down work. Generally it’s because they don’t trust the client will provide them true financials for their filings. It’s the root of Sarbanes and a way to safeguard the accountants/auditors licenses of and when a clients work becomes part of an investigation. So no shock that Guiliani can’t find an accountant.

IF a CPA is found to help commit fraud, that CPA will lose their standing as a CPA. just like a lawyer loses their Bar standing if a lawyer commits/ or helps to commit fraud.
His personal books may be such a mess that there will be an extraordinary amount of work involved in unraveling them, and Giuliani will be insisting that you follow his not-necessarily legal guidelines, a-laTrump.

At this point, Giuliani needs a book keeper, not an accountant. Presumably, Giuliani, the cyber security expert, could open a spreadsheet and do the book keeping himself, but if he can't or won't the judge should appoint a book keeper for Giuliani that Giuliani pays for.
I've seen accountants turn down work before. It's because you can become legally entangled with the paperwork. Arguably, if Trump Org had hired any CPAs, they'd be going to jail now

They won't touch him because they know he will ask them to fiddle his books, not to mention any association with him will give them a bad name and for good reason.
My suspicion is that when looking at his expenses, they are seeing money coming in from somewhere that Rudy is not prepared to divulge the source of. And despite repeated requests to tell them if this is everything that he has (by way of assets), Rudy is being evasive and non-cooperative in his responses.
So, rather than continue to have to fight and argue with Rudy to tell them everything they need to include on their financial reporting, they've decided that life is too short and there are better things (and far less stressful) than having to deal with someone like Giuliani.
@@victors8465 considering he's spent over 100k when he's only allowed to spend a measly 40k he's got other sources of income, it's not a good move doing something like that when you already have eyes on your spending, so I think it's safe to say he didn't disclose all of his money, he really needs to stay off the wine when he's shopping online.

Accountants put their reputation on the line with every report they file. If a client lies to them and provides incomplete information their reputation is at risk. Accountants turn down jobs all the time.
When going through bankruptcy, part of the process is a teacher who certifies we have learned budgeting necessary to live within our means. And this certificate goes with other documents to the judge who apportions the available cash among the creditors. Giuliani has destroyed these womens lives and businesses with his lies. And now he wants an accountant to gaslight the judge why it's okay to do an OJ on them , while he lives in comfort and never gives them a dime. To the accountants credit, they are saying "no we will not perpetrate this scam on these poor victims".
We are conservative. True CPA, IPA, CA's have an ethical promise to the client, state and country to present the facts. Anything that's not factual discredits our profession. We have seen this before.

What up side is there in working for Giuliani?
An accountant would be acting for the "debtor in possession" in Rudi's Ch 11 case. He is appointed as an officer of the court. He is compensation is authorized by the court. He is entitled to be paid the court approved compensation out of the assets of the case before any creditor is repaid. There is no financial risk in doing this work in this case, as Rudi continues to generate monthly cashflow and has millions of dollars worth of assets which are going to be liquidated in a worst case disposition. The only negative might be that the compensation process can be drawn out, and the CPA might have to front a fair amount of time and expenses overhead from time to time. As a retired lawyer whose legal practice was deeply involved in these cases for decades, my guess is that Rudi is dragging his feet over selecting a CPA, possibility because any competent professional will require Rudi to maintain strict accounting procedures and records. Rudi has probably been skimming cash though his management of the bankruptcy estate since the case was filed, and strict accounting principles are the last thing he wants to have. Rudi is never going to "reorganize" in this case. He is too old. He is too under-funded to generate new cash in an amount which equals or exceeds the amount creditors would get if they had just liquidated everything when the case was first filed, which is the minimum financial benchmark which must be hit to have a successful Ch 11 plan. All that is happening in this case is that Rudi is treading water, probably hiding small assets against the day soon coming when the case collapses and the Court just sells everything off, maybe hoping he'll keep the balls in the air long enough o just drop dead and leave the mess for others to wrap up. Maybe he just doesn't have any resolution he will accept, so this case is just a never-ending stall until the creditors' committee accepts the principle that "if you want something done, you have to do it yourself".
Can you picture the scene in a meeting with Trump and Rudy in a closed room meeting, both farting away in competition with the other.
He's delaying like his buddy tRump.
A couple of things to consider:
1. Giuliani obviously doesn’t have a great deal of money to pay any of his professionals representing him in the bankruptcy.
2. As chaotic as his life has been for the past several years, his financial records may be a nightmare to straighten out.
3. In a bankruptcy, all professional fees have to be approved by the Court, which can not only delay payments, but the bankruptcy judge will scrutinize all fee applications, very possibly reduce the requested amount.
4. Unlike in a non-bankruptcy accounting assignment, the bankruptcy accountant’s work will be reviewed under a microscope by the U.S. Trustee’s Office, attorneys for any creditors who go to the extra expense of hiring one, and probably attorneys for any creditor committee that is established, all of a vested interest in catching any errors or omissions.
5. Giuliani is also not someone to be taken at his word, so the accountant has to start with the assumption, and possibly even the expectation, that he will be lied to, with the additional expectation that he will lie and argue instead of truthfully answering questions.
So all in all, while it is plainly humbling and embarrassing to Giuliani to not be able to find an accountant, from the accountant’s perspective, he probably made a smart decision.

Agree. Proper analysis. The risk vs reward isn't there. The billing / fees are going to be pretty minimal, but the potential future obligations and entanglement could be unlimited.
