This is definitely the best underground windsurfing channel out there! Thanks Paul for another great visit and chat with an inspiring person🤙 Really like these longer interviews☺
Thats reminds me of the Wave Warrior custom boards back in the 90's here in The Netherlands, shaped by Fred Dijselbloem and partner. We copyed a strapper session into a custom setup dual fin. So cool to ride. And all polyster build very light and so smooft riding. Back the boards were pretty expensive but nowadays its totally grazy prices here for the starboards ect....you pay like around 2600 usd. Awesome video again Paul. Really love this old and new skool board tech talk 🤙 Hangloose from The Netherlands and keep on riding.
Paul as a dutchie I’m loving seeing these great videos about Australia windsurfing history. Awesome! I grew up at the same time but in holland all different and great stories for the love of the sport. Thank you Paul
Top job as usual fella you have a great style of interviewing. Plus Marks always super interesting to have a chat with.. just super open and honest. I hope Severne are sorting you out a few Beers! :) ...and when's our podcast? :)
That was very interesting Paul, I learnt heaps, it was kind of Mr Stone to share his time and explain the many variables that go into making a good board 🤙🏼
Such a great video. I'm actually going to watch it again some time. I love listening to what shapers have to say, I've really developed a greater love and slightly more understanding of boards over the last 4 years I'd say. My wife says for each extra board I get, she'll get another animal. I have 11 at the moment. The interviews with people like this in a relaxed way is just so good. More please Paul 😋
@@windsurfer we already have a staffie, a great dane and 2 cats that arrived under false pretenses. I'll have to thin the quiver one day. Or make a technical decision and say ok these boards are Ben's now not mine 🤣
Another absolute belter Paul. Loved this video. Really cool to get that insight into Mark’s design thinking. The finish on those boards looks incredible. Might have to make a trip from Scotland to WA to get one 🤩 What a modest guy too. Great video dude. Cheers. Paul 🤙💥
I thought it would be a tad long when I saw the running time, but then I played it, it was super interesting and informative and it felt almost too short ! I loved it, Mark Stone sounds like a passionnate no bullshit kind of guy. I like that he wants to stick to what he loves (wave shapes) and doesn´t feel obliged to get involved in areas of windsurfing he has no connection with 👍
Browsed your back catalogue and pissed my pants for a good while. Made me think of those first ever 2,49 eur...madness.. Those mischievous edits capture the dopaminergic virtues of the good ripping life so well with invariably decent music. Talent & soul i've paid 11,99 for a lot of inferior cultural artifacts and happenings, so there you go. hope at least some will follow luv 🤙🏽
That’s amazing thank you so much Mango Tree!!! I really appreciate the support, I’ve spent 1000s of hours filming and editing with little financial reward because it’s my hobby but getting some money from a subscriber is super cool. ✌️
so well done, meaning the documentary style. Thx. Interesting character/shaper: for me echos from another continent over the decades...but someone always challenging dogma/established paradigms and spot on regarding widespread conservatism and reluctance to experiment. Asy shapes make total sense when you have a dominant wind direction or simple preference, never really went away but can't get my hands on them 2nd hand :)
Thank you for this very interesting interview, Have had the chance to interview any Australian sailmakers yet ? Guys that build custom sails? Best regards
@@windsurfer I notice that too, I live in Europe and they isn't that many sailmaker building windsurfing sails. I wonder why. Any opinion on that ? They a couple of guys in Italie and Tarifa making carbon booms, a couple of fins makers too. 5 oceans build really cool sail in France, bullsails in Tarifa and teiva sails in the south of France. I'm sure they is a lot more it appears to be a lots less common than board shaper . Thanks for taking the time to reply and all the best.
@@pablomadrid1735 yeah quite a few are based on Maui and otherwise just scattered all over the planet. In Australia we do have a few very small custom sail brands which when I’m in their area I’ll try and do a video. There is also Ben Severne and Patrick that are based in Australia. Thanks for your support and telling me about what’s happening over there... the comments are the best bits about videos!
This is super interesting! I thought I knew most things about modern waveboards - but it turns out that I don't. And a great interview. Thanks. I wonder if Severne will supply these new assy boards for both tacks? Because here, in the south coast of the UK, our wind is from the right - the opposite from Geraldton or Pozo.
We get both tacks in equal measure here, but for those places with fixed trade patterns these things look good. I like his thinking about fins and waterflow. That kind of hydro engineering mindset is what makes awesome windsurfing equipment. In Europe Bouke Becker from Witchcraft is lightyears ahead - their website has super interesting blogs on these kind of topics.

Windsurfing needs and loves this coverage and insight - nice work!
Best windsurfing channel there is. Great job, Paul!
Mark and Paul, thank you so very much. That was fantastic.
This guy is so original your interviews with these legends of board shaping are so interesting
I'm Italian and I live in Italy...I only use Stone boards since 2016. I have 4 stone boards. Mark Stone is simply a genius!
Wow cool!
That's awesome Paul, super interesting! Thanks for doing the interview with Mark!
Insightfull and love the explaining of "why" and "how" these choices where made and what works and what not!
Great vid. Very educational.
Thanks. Was a great interview. Loved the Geraldton history at the beginning 👍👍😎

Hey thanks of that story Donnie, I have never heard of Wave warrior. There's a lot of windsurf history that needs to be documented!
It took me a while to find the choice without noticing the link but I knew it came from that album... Made my day, Mark! Fascinating^^

Thanks for asking the question. Interesting concept. And his construction method is super interesting, 24hrs for a board + fins is pretty efficient!
Thanks for the question!

Happy you liked the video Basher. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to get the board in both tacks. 👍
If I lived near ocean with consistent conditions that look interesting.
But I live near a big river and mostly surf big chops on both tacks.
Asymmetrical.. so windsurfing! Me never ride one but that time will be soon. Mmmmmm
