Pope Benedict celebrated his 90th birthday in seclusion in a monastery in the Vatican Gardens, “hidden from the world”, as he announced after his resignation. The film "The Bavarian Pope" tries to get closer to the Pope Emeritus, the theologian, but above all to the man Joseph Ratzinger.
Joseph Ratzinger was born in Marktl am Inn in Upper Bavaria. From childhood he was fascinated by the world of the Catholic. It should become decisive for his life. Priest, star theologian, council advisor, Archbishop of Munich and Freising, prefect of the Roman Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith - the career of the gendarme's son, who actually seemed rather shy and reserved, ran steeply and unstoppably.
In his mid-70s he wants to retire and write books, preferably at home in Bavaria. But in April 2005 Joseph Ratzinger was elected Pope - from now on he is called Benedict XVI. His life changes all over again. In addition to enthusiasm, he also faces criticism because of various church scandals. In February 2013 Benedict XVI writes a piece of church history with his resignation.
Beautiful film about our dear Pope. It's still hard to believe that he is not with us anymore. Such a dedicated priest and intellectual giant left us a great legacy - his beautiful books about God. May God reward him for his lifelong faithfulness and service. 🙏✝️🕊️🕯️

I had the enormous pleasure of seeing pope Benedict the 16th when he came to America in 2008 I was able to participate in his holy mess at Yankee C a.m. in Bronx New York I will remember that for a lifetime we had just come from my trip down in Florida me and my family and my disabled aunt and I who am I still the same boat got the chance to go down to see him Rest In PeacePope Benedict the 16th
