I adored Lucy Worsley's biography of Agatha Christie as well and am currently reading her bio of Jane Austen. Lucy is such a marvelous historian.

I love your headbands, Because of their height, they remind me a little (in a very understated way) of the french hoods worn by the Anne Bolens etc... At least that's what I think of when I see one on you.

I live in Texas in the country, so two books that have caught my attention are the nature writing book and the one about the heat wave. Texas is very hot in the summer and even with air conditioning, constant hot weather does impact your life📚🌞
I am definitely going to pick up Appointment with Venus! Our family really loved The Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Society. We read it aloud together. This might be another one for us to enjoy together. I just finished How the Penguins Saved Veronica by Hazel Prior. It was a delightful read. The main character was a cantankerous old woman and, in my mind, she was Maggie Smith. If you want a story that will leave you feeling totally warm and contented, this is the one. Thanks for all that you share!

Thank you so much Miranda. It is very hard to pick out favorite books when you read many books every year. But I have to say that after been to London 2022 and been able to pick up British Library Women Writers books I am in favorite of them. The trip to London also "gave" me a bunch of Persephone books that I am slowly happily working my way through. My favorite thing of the year was a Book Carousel that I found in a Charity Shop. I have been seeking for the right Book Carousel for 30 years and then it was there for $25! It needed some love with sandpaper and beeswax but so worth the work. Looking forward to a new year with many good reads and a Book Carousel to admirer.

I am currently watching and enjoying Lucy Worsley’s tv series about Agatha Christie (it is being shown on free to air tv in Australia), and assume the series is based on the biography she wrote. I am now keen to get hold of the book, and feel confident I will enjoy it based on your recommendation.
If there is one question I find really difficult it is the " what is your favourite " anything ! Good for you that you managed it. I just love reading & I suppose the easiest
answer to that favourite is Jane Austen books. I really like how you hire your dresses, such a great way to wear many different beautiful garments.
I love your favourite things videos Miranda! I have Darling and Appointment With Venus lined up to read soon, so it’s good to hear they are in your top ten! One of my favourite books from last year was The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles, I kept thinking about the characters afterwards. My favourite non-book things were some Susie Hamilton flower prints which I have framed, I love her art.
This was such a wonderful collection of books and favourite things. I can always rely on you to give us the best recommendations Miranda, and I have bought so many books and items during 2022 based solely on your recommendation. I had never heard of a commonplace book so that may be a particularly British thing, but I think I may adopt it. I love these twice a week visits from you. I think my favourite read of the year has been Rebecca, I can't believe it has taken me so long to get to! I think my favourite purchase would have to be investing in my vinyl collection, specifically Nina Simone.
Another fabulous video, thank you. I didn't realise there was a book of green for danger. I saw the film a few years ago with Trevor howard and Alistair sims I so enjoyed it,very tense and atmospheric. I will now be getting the book. Can't wait.

So true what you said about books not necessarily being about subjects you love which end up staying with you. I had to read a harrowing YA novel (I was working in a school library at the time) about orphans being sent to Canada. I can honestly say it was one of the most important books I've ever read and I often reflect upon it. One of my favourite reads of last year was Father by Elizabeth von Arnim. I also read my first Miss Read and my first Mary Stewart, both of which have become firm favourites. I'm also slowly buying the back issues of The Scribbler after subscribing last year. Of my favourite things, I love the discovery of Seasalt. I have two gorgeous velvet jackets from there which I bought in the recent sale. Have a fabulous week xx

I picked up Appointment with Venus when recently visiting Golden Hare Books in Edinburgh. The bookseller was curious to know where I had heard of this (on your channel, of course!) as someone at the shop is friends with the founder of Manderley Press. I would have to say one of my favorite things from last year is a hat I recently bought, again in Edinburgh, at a wonderful shop called Fabhatrix. If you are a hat person (as I am) you would love this shop. The one I bought is a cloche style in wonderful shades of orange and rust, and I get such enjoyment from just looking at it. Life's simple pleasures!

I’ve just finished Lucy Worsley’s Agatha Christie, I listened to the audiobook over the weekend and I was hooked. I agree about the style, it was a very easy listen, yet highlights what I feel are important aspects of Agatha Christie’s personality.

I love the picture of your grandmother enjoying her light! I admired the braided headband in a previous video, but the burgundy velvet is my absolute favorite. And I have loved the Bronte jug since I first saw it, it’s spectacular. The notebooks are gorgeous. I find myself being afraid to use things like this though, which is so silly. Hi Miranda..I am new to your channel ( about a month) and I am SO happy I found you! One of the first videos I saw mentioned the Commonplace Book and I am THRILLED beyond words to have learned of it. I cannot believe I have lived this long and never once heard of it. I have always collected quotes/sayings etc. on scrap notes of paper and of course they tend to disappear. I stopped the video and straightaway ordered a book. It has arrived and I have started it and it has become such a joy already. Well done for whittling the favourite books down to 10 ! 👏 Super episode Miranda, and I must say thank you again for all your recommendations. I now have a very large TBR list and I think I may be popular with my library this year as I can't possibly buy all the books I want to read. One of my favourite reads this year was Trumpet by Jackie Kay. Jackie is a wonderful writer , so funny, so poignant, so poetical. Parts of this book are set where I live , which felt really strange but wonderful to recognise my hometown in fiction. Oh and another favourite item of 2022 was discovering your UA-cam channel, it's a delight ☺️

The three books that got stars last year were The Witches of New York by Ami McKay, The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams and The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Thank your for sharing your favorites of 2022 with us. 2022 was my best reading year ever - mostly due to your recommendations and enthusiasm. My standouts were "Illyrian Spring", "The Pursuit of Love", "Love in a Cold Climate" and "The Cazalet Chronicles". I was unaware of either the books or their authors before following your channel. It now brings me such joy to see them sitting on my bookshelves along with my favorite rereads of 2022, "Persuasion" and "Anne of Green Gables". (I fell so in love again with both Annes.) 💕

Another lovely video. My top 2 favorite reads of 2022 were Still Life by Sarah Winman, and The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery. A favorite thing of mine was actually not really a thing but experiences. For the first time in several years, my husband and I took more day trips and mini adventures on the weekends. I also baked more last year and had so much fun trying new recipes. Happy New Year to you and your mum. xo

I have not read many of those on your list but you always manage to broaden my horizons with book and lifestyle ideas.
I have rediscovered Charles Dickens beginning this autumn. I also have a Czech heritage so I am also rediscovering Franz Kafka whom I have not read since High School. They just came out with a new addition of his journals and there is the final installment of a 3 volume biography which is also out. Normally his writing is much too modern and dystopian for me but I am getting more in touch with my Czech roots (my Mom turned 90 in 2022) as well as being able to participate in two different writers groups sparked my interest.

Lots of book recommendations but also the wonderful Bronte jug, which I ordered after seeing it on your channel. It is one of my most treasured possessions, and is always full of seasonal flowers. It brings me joy every time I look at it! I have often admired your lovely book baskets, and now I know where to find them! They seem to be sold out now, but I will keep a watch on the website for a restock. They look so elegant with books in them. As always, thank you Miranda. It's dreary freezing rain here, and I'm nursing unhappy sinuses, so this cheery video was a treat with my afternoon cuppa. In 2022 (and onwards this year also), one of my favorite things is our organic veggie CSA. It's delivered right to our doorstep, all produce grown here in our little town so it's fresh as can be. I had a tough time picking just 10 favorite books from 2022, but one was The Lark by E. Nesbit so thanks for that suggestion!

Another fantastic vlog, thank you Miranda! I do adore your headbands, they are so elegant and when you wear them you truly look like a princess… Definitely finding your blog and the Comfort Book Club was one of the best things in 2022. Among the books you recommended last year I particularly loved The Enchanted April by E. Von Arnim. Another book I loved in 2022 ( before finding you) is “Without Reservation :The Travels of an Independent Woman” by Alice Steinbach in which the author describes what happens when she decides “to travel wherever chance or fancy took me, unencumbered by schedules and obligations” and it definitely turns out to be a self discovery journey. Thank you again for this great recap .Your review of Maud Martha by G. Brooks makes it an irresistible read… I must have it!!

What a great collection of things and books ; I love the Ladybird notebook, the cover is marvellous. My best thing of the year was to find your channel and read such wonderfuls books as "All Creatures great and small", "My family and other animals", "High rising" and "Wild strawberries" (so funny !). I am so happy and excited to discover so many books I didn't know.
Another beautiful thing I discovered this year was the tapestries of Dom Robert, a monk in the south of France who drew tapestry cartoons full of flowers and animals and I fell in love with them.

I am new to your channel and absolutely love all your content. I have just ordered the jute basket storage and loved your baking and January tonic, especially your reactions 😁 I am guessing spicy.
Allot of people don’t like January/February but I find this time restorative, I am loving reading in the mornings before everyone wakes and in the evening by the fire. I am keen to learn to crochet, tapestry and embroidery/ start up Fitness with PJ (online exercise for over 40’s) and I have decided to repaint the kitchen - it has been awhile 😉😁 all the while enjoying the season and the outdoors - walks and short runs. I also enjoyed the Agatha Christie biography last year. I listened to the audiobook, and Lucy Worsley's narration is fantastic. In fact, most of my favorite books that I read in 2022 were narrated by the author -Rememberings by Sinead O'Conner, Infused: Adventures in Tea by Henrietta Lovell, and Christmas Days: 12 Stories and 12 Feasts for 12 Days by Jeanette Winterson.

This was a joy to watch. Thank you! I began the new year reading Maud Martha. I loved it so much. The short, seemingly simple chapters are little marvels in how they build tension and capture the intense moments of Maud’s inner life, from anger to exuberance. I wish Brooks had written more fiction. My favorite recent non-fiction read is Nella Last’s war. What a remarkable woman she was. I hope she knew that. I must also share how, for the longest time, I have been seeking warm, cosy slippers. My Seasalt pair arrived this week. My toes thank you. 👣

One of my favourite reads of 2022 was one of your recommendations, which became a daily morning read: The Country Diaries, edited by Alan Taylor. It has introduced me to so many other books and writers, but I particularly loved reading the regular pieces throughout from John Fowles, Dorothy Wordsworth and Sir Walter Scott. I'm sure I shall be reading this all over again - maybe next year.

One of my favorite physical book purchases in 2022 was "Nature Writing for Every Day of the Year". After seeing it on one of your videos, I bought a copy as a Christmas gift for my best friend in Sweden and decided to get myself one too, and I've been loving it! Another favorite thing in regards to books is not a particular book but a "genre"; lately I've really enjoyed reading short stories and 'cozy mysteries', something I've rarely ever read in the past. Actually, almost never, lol I tended to always read big massive books because I felt if I'm going to spend the money, I'll spend it on big books,lol Well, that changed in 2022 and I'm discovering a whole new world in literature and I'm really enjoying it!

My favorite book this year might be The Lark, which was a Cozy Book Club read. The concept of life being a lark, no matter what shows up, has stayed with me all year. It might just be my word for 2023. Also liked The Secret Garden. I hadn't read it until just a few weeks ago on a vacation. I'm thinking I might need a commonplace book or small notebook just for your favorite things and book recommendations. I like the lifestyle, cooking and book combo thing you're doing.

Hello🙂I loved Father too. I discovered D.E. Stevenson. I didn’t know her at all and loved Miss Buncle’s Book. However, my standout read was On Gallows Down by Nicola Chester. So many discoveries, but Weleda products have made such a difference; Radio 3 Saturday Breakfast with Elizabeth Alker - I particularly love “croissant corner”.
