I love taking Amtrak’s Empire Builder. It’s worth a trip just to see the Continental Divide, Glacier National Park, and stay at the Izaak Walton Inn. It’s also fun to see all the railfanning spots I’ve shot pictures from over the years from the train’s point of view and all the inaccessible spots too. The Conductors turn the overhead lights down after 10 p.m. so people can sleep. If you’re awake it makes for a really cool ride in the sightseer lounge car along highway 61 and Lake Pepin. Chicago Union Station is also a sight to see.
