  • This job is MUCH easier than you might expect. I walk through each step of the process. ANYONE can do this!
    CAUTION: If you choose to plug the other inlet to the pump like I do in the video and use the skimmer as the only water inlet to your pump, you MUST NOT let your pool's water level drop below the bottom of the skimmer inlet. Otherwise, your pump won't get water and will burn up.
    Here are the parts I used in the video:
    1) Skimmer system: amzn.to/3nc5axI (paid link)
    2) Hose adapter: www.lowes.com/pd/Aqua-EZ-Hose...
    3) Skimmer basket "socks": amzn.to/3NrdW5I (paid link)

    That was done extremely well out of all the people I've watched do that. It shows me that I can do it too thanks

    The gasket is not meant to be separated. It goes in the hole you cut and fits snuggly on both sides of the cut

      Can be done either way. Having two gaskets - one for each mounted component - is very typical. Mine is leak-free after a year but I understand that some people don't want to cut their gasket. Makes sense. Pros and cons to either method.

    Awesome video! You're showing everything I wanted to see, so now I have some confidence that this should be possible to do for me as well 😋 Thanks for making this video! ❤

    Great video. Thank you! I have watched a few of these because I’m scared to cut my liner. But I can see it’s going to be totally worth it

      Yeah, it definitely is. I also upgraded my pump/filter (after this video) to a sand filter, and the skimmer is working even better.

    Wow looks so easy. I just purchased one but talked myself into sending it back because I really didn't want to cut into my liner but after being this video I may just keep it and use it with my new sand filter. Thank you............ I hope lol

      I hear you. I was a little nervous when I finally made the cut but it worked so well and was as easy as I showed in the video.

    We just got one of these pools and used your other video to help us set up the pump that it came with (no thanks to the poor instructions!). I’ll keep this in mind for the future. Looks like it’s really effective. Would you still recommend it today after having some time to see it work? Thanks for your helpful videos and i loved seeing (and hearing) your chickens run around. So nice to have fresh eggs. 🥚

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  11 місяців тому

      Yes, I highly recommend the skimmer. It keeps the surface of the water much cleaner than without one. It's so time-consuming to use a net to get everything off the water's surface every day. The skimmer makes the net almost unnecessary.
      The best upgrade I've done to my pool, though, is changing the pump and paper filter that came with the pool to a sand filter. Not only is it much more powerful and more effective, but there's no paper filter that needs to be cleaned every day. It was $200 but it was well worth it.
      I'll post a link to the video from another channel that's the same pump I now have.
      And yes, nearly unlimited eggs (and free!) is hard to beat!

    Why didn’t the casket come cute into two pieces if one side is supposed to go inside the pool and one on the outside or did you decide you wanted it split into. I have been considering getting something like this, so I appreciate your video!

      If gasket is used uncut, the hole in the pool liner has to be cut first. To me, that's riskier than cutting the gasket first and cutting the liner at the very end. Worst case for mis-cutting the gasket is you order another gasket. Worst case of cutting the liner wrong is....who knows, depends on what you do.
      To me, there are more pros than cons to cutting the gasket but I know folks who've done it successfully not cutting the gasket.

      @@FixEverythingYourself Thanks for the video. I just purchased this skimmer but I am wondering about a slightly different approach. How about installing it just like you did but without the gasket. Then cut the hole in the liner. Then unscrew everything (i.e disassemble the installation). Then install the butterfly gasket nicely in the newly cut hole and then reconnect everything. This way the gasket is not cut, but your liner hole is lined up properly. (Unless not having the gasket on during the cut will not align it correctly? )

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  11 місяців тому +2

      Yes, I think that would work just fine. For what it's worth, mine is working perfectly with no leaks. But I understand the nervousness of cutting the gasket 🙂.

    Hi!
    Can i have some update on how the wall skimmer works since to you installed it?
    How long is it installed and is there any leak are damages on the liner with time?
    Is it worth it or should i keep the intex surface skimmer?
    Thanks a lot 🙏
    Fab

      I've had the skimmer for 3 weeks. No leaks of any kind. It works extremely well when I'm user it as the only inlet to the pump. However, I often use both inlet hoses because the pump is weak and don't want a clogged skimmer preventing enough water from getting to the pump.
      My brother has the same pool and skimmer but upgraded his filter/pump, and his skimmer is working beautifully with both inlet hoses in use.
      If your pool already has a skimmer and seems to be working, I'd keep it. If you don't have one, this one works very well.

      @@FixEverythingYourself Thanks a lot! I already have the basic Intex surface skimmer but keep getting off the edge. So I am interested to put the wall skimmer but I am scare off damages of the liner on the long terms.

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  Рік тому

      I don't expect any problems long-term on the liner. The vinyl liner is pretty strong.

    did you keep the other hose hooked up to the pool / t connector when you plugged it?

    Is the blue tape just to keep water in? Its not on all poles

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  Рік тому

      Yes, just to keep water in. A lot of it splashed out of those holes when we'd swim. This was an easy way to keep it in.

  • @weirdnotormaybe

    What did you do with the other 2 intake holes?

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  Рік тому +1

      One is plugged, the other is still feeding water to the pump. Which means there's the skimmer plus one inlet hose going to the pump. The skimmer doesn't work as well when both initial inlets are plugged so I'm still experimenting with my long-term approach on using just the skimmer or both.

    Can I still put my chlorine tablets in this type of skimmer. Ty. Your video is amazing

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you can put tablets in the skimmer but make sure they don't block the hole that drains to the pump. If you're using larger tablets, standing them on their edge should keep the opening to the hose free and clear.

    Decades in the aquarium hobby have me brainwashed, over filtration 🤣
    I'm shocked it's taken me this long to add another filter to my pool 😂

    All due respect, seeing several unneeded steps to complete when it's already drained down. Mark the hole location. Cut the hole out and install the butterfly gasket (not cut). Use a screw to puncture the liner at each screw location and install screws. Done

    Install 2 skimmers, dont plug the other side off. One inlet will make the pump work harder and the return flow will slow down. Preference i quess, but the pump is starving having only one intlet

    • @FixEverythingYourself
      @FixEverythingYourself  11 місяців тому

      Agreed. I leave the other inlet unplugged for that reason (don't want to starve the pump of water). Interesting idea about two skimmers. I like it.
