I saw this movie when I was a little girl, back in the 80s, and several times since. And over my lifetime I've recurrently said the phrase "I KENTSTENIM!" to myself whenever I come across someone I profoundly dislike. It always makes me laugh and forget the aggravation I was experiencing before. And that's pretty great.
The woman who plays her coach commented on how stunningly beautiful and classy Jean Hagen was in real life, which was hard to see playing Lina but at the same time, was a testament to her comedic timing.
Of course Jean Hagen wasn't nearly as stupid as the comedy role she played in this brilliant movie. An actress has to be very intelligent to play a dumb-witted character without "denouncing" the role. Jean Hagen obviously enjoys this part, she does a wonderful job here and has created a classic!
my fave scene aside from dancing numbers is the scene with a director having a melt with lina lamount trying to get her to speak her lines into the microphone. very funny
Para mí es la mejor película de todos los tiempos, nunca te cansas de verla y siempre descubres algo nuevo. Por cierto eso me pasa ahora con Pulpo Ficción.
I love the irony that Jean Hagen was Oscar nominated for playing a bad actress, totally deserved she nailed the role and was hilarious throughout the film.
One of the best supporting roles ever, the brilliant Jean Hagen.
"Caaahhn't." "Ceeeeeeaan't!"
😂😂😂😂😂

I'm going to do this. Thank you for your wisdom!

I also did that, after seeing this wonderfully funny scene!! It always makes me smile. Great, just great❣️‼️
I do the same thing! I love everything about this movie!
I said it to my son all the time for no reason 😆
Whenever someone says 'I can't stand him' whether in film or in a conversation me and my parents will immediately quote this scene
LOVE this!! "....an' I cayyant steyyyan' 'im!" -brilliantly done, Miss Hagen!

Singin' in the Rain is nearly stolen by Jean Hagen as Lina. A fabulous talent.
RIP Jean Hagen. She was a gem as Lina Lamont
my fave scene aside from dancing numbers is the scene with a director having a melt with lina lamount trying to get her to speak her lines into the microphone. very funny
Well she can't make love with a bush
I’m surprised that she didn’t drive him into a heart attack...... missing the mike, rattling the pearls, and her historical tinny voice!!
"But I CAN'T MAKE LOVE TO A BUSH!!!!" I love this!!!
I wish you would have kept the part where they both correct him on 'sipped his snifter'. Cosmo cracks me up when he does it.
She should have won the Oscar here -
The dictation coach is played by legendary character and voice over actress Kathleen Freeman who many might know as the teacher in Hocus Pocus.
OMG, I always knew she looked familiar.
Isn’t that the woman from The Goonies!?!
@@Itstonytime77 Nope, that's Anne Ramsay
Also Microwave Marge from "Gremlins 2", the only TV chef that valued a half full bottle of sherry over her own safety.
And Sister Mary Stigmata (the “Penguin”) from The Blues Brothers (1980) and Enid Borden from Dragnet (1987).
"Tateytitowtuu"
"Enaykintstenim"
"Kiiiiiiiiiiiin't"
She is just wonderful at playing this role.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
LOL... She's really funny
Jean was brilliant in this.
IMO, not only is SITR the best musical in American film industry, it's actually a great comedy too. This scene is a testament to that.
The diction coach is The Penguin from The Blues Brothers 😹
The look on the voice coach's face @ 0.40 reads "damn!" Lol
It's like trying to teach a baby goat how to speak. LOL!!
This one of the funniest thing I've ever seen
CANNNE STANNNUM

Jean Hagen was robbed of an Oscar or either a nomination for this
She was nominated
i must have seen this a 1000 times but I still laugh every time I see this scene
Lena reminds me of Jack Lemmon from "Some Like it Hot".
She was great in this !
I still can’t believe that’s Kathleen Freeman as the coach. Such a departure from playing the nun in The Blues Brothers or the landlady in Dragnet.

Is that her real voice?
Thumbs up if Nick Abbot sent you here.
Ta ray tie toe two
The voice/diction coach here looks like Lori Beth Denberg from the 90s Nickelodeon show 'All That'.
🤣🤣🤣
