Yes there is an anti foul for transducers and paddle wheels. It is called Propspeed Foul Free and made in New Zealand. I use it very successfully on my boat in Mexico also in warm waters. The only down side is that like all boat things it is expensive but worth it. Ben S/V DAWN
Just bear in mind that WD-40 is a water dispersant, not a proper lubricant. It can work in a pinch temporarily, but parts will start to wear if that's all you use. Looks like a great channel. I just may stick around.
I love how genuine and real the two of you are. Your video's are just fun to watch. We have a smile on our face after each new video. John stays cooler than the other side of the pillow regardless of the situation. "It means we're not going to die" cracked me up.
I would never have the courage to do what you both are doing. The sea scares the bejeezus outta me. But it's so much fun (and frightening) watching you two do it. You two are definitely brave.
The best way to get rid of hiccups. Is to take a deep breath in filling your lungs. Then you just slow exhale till you cannot release any more air. After that, you will be hiccup-free. I have not seen a case of hiccups where this method did not work.

And the reason she doesn't wake up to every sound is because she feels safe and protected. But when there is a baby involved it is the other way around. If ya'll ever sail or get to the Big Island stop in and say Hi! Ya'll are more than welcome to stay. We live in Ocean View Hawaii. From our lanai you can see the hole shoreline, from South point all the way to Captain Cook. The view is to die for. We are 3000 feet up. In the "winter" (lol) months you can hear the whales talking to each other at night. It is a very special place. So hope to see ya'll soon someday. The folks on We/Sail stopped in and stayed when they sailed here from Mexico. They are in the south pacific now around the French islands down there.
Wow Dunk Island When I visited OZ back in 2000 I flew to Dunk and stayed in the hotel there for 4 nights. Did a sunset cruise and did some scuba diving ( I am Padi qualified). I read that the hotel was wiped out by a cyclone a few years later. So sad as it was so nice. Love your output. Keep it up from Devon in the UK. I also walked up to Mount Kootaloo whilst I was there.

For international viewers it's worth mentioning that they are sailing in the trade winds, an almost constant SE wind often over 20 knots along the North Queensland coast.

Great to see your journey continue guys, little correction for you however, while your correct the primary difference between a Hurricane and a Cyclone is the region they develop in (local names etc) the Hurricanes generally refer to northern Hemisphere and Cyclones Southern. so that does make one difference between them, due to the coriolis effect they spin in different directions. Same result of course but different rotation.

Don't for get they are called typhoons when they develop in the Northwest Pacific. Except for rotation they are all the same type storm. All three that is.

Did I not teach you anything? Ha Ha Ha! It's a "Tropical Cyclone" in the Southern Hemisphere when referring to systems in QLD. A "Cyclone" could be a mid-latitude system like we get off the NSW Coast. (eg East Coast Low) A "Tropical Cyclone" has a warm core, a mid latitude "Cyclone" has a cold core. Hope you guys are well! a red line or constant i see on nearly all sailing channels is the amount of time you guys are on the motor (generally speaking). The wind is 'always' from the wrong direction (or seems to be). For me, it has become clear over years of following multiple channels that the best way forward is a hybrid motor cat or full electric cat (like Sunreef or Silent Yachts). Still love your channel.
Actually, in this part of the world, we’re lucky to have prevailing SE trade winds and are able to sail almost everyday actually! 😅 The first part of the video we’re tucked behind an island and in a channel, so that doesn’t count of course!!😅 but the second half we smash out the nautical miles without the donk 👊

Hello, Kristina and John (great episode as they all are) this is an open question to you and all your subscribers and watchers. I know I’m going to receive some negative comments to this question however it’s a legitimate query to all liveaboards (mainly aimed at Cats but also curious from the Mono owners out there). I also understand it’s a hypothetical (at this stage) however I truly believe it is fast approaching becoming a reality. if a renewable energy (solar, electric, hydrogen ? - i.e. non diesel) boat could get you as far as the current ‘sails’ what would your next boat be - and would you consider a “sail-less” boat. Now I know there are people out there that love to sail - I totally get it (this question is not for you) however watching most of the common channels I do wonder if the actual ‘sailing’ part is as enjoyable as depicted and if ‘sailing’ inhibits you from enjoying other things (ie being able to go somewhere that the wind won’t let you (at that point in time)). Think about having the ability to choose windless or calm weather windows, point straight, possibly quicker passages, no mast/sails/rigging (maintenance, possible failure, costs), the boat liveability (if it didn’t have to ‘sail well’), overall stresses on the boat, maintenance, etc. I’m probably 6 years off (I’ll be a ‘fit’ 64) and have my eyes on purchasing a Seawind 1260 or 1370 ($$$) and looking to initially circumnavigate Australia and then possibly onto South Pacific and then who knows so ‘range’ is definitely a huge consideration (this is not just a day-tripper coastal question - a true long term liveaboard). I’m looking forward to your (constructive) thoughts (either positive or negative).
Hey Tim, Interesting question you’ve posed. I was surprised when we set out, how rarely the wind is optimal, and how often you either need to sail an indirect route or at slow speed, or simply had to wait or resign to motoring. My initial thoughts are that a hybrid electric/renewable propulsion sailboat would be my choice. While the cost/maintenance benefits to not having rigging and sails etc is very appealing, there is something satisfying about travelling by wind, and everything that comes with it despite the cost and inconvenience. Planning, strategy, and the sport in handling the sails and the boat while under sail etc. Generally we sail downwind as much as possible and only upwind when the sea state is fairly flat for comfort and to limit the stress on the boat, this wouldn’t change for us even if we were planning on motoring, so there wouldn’t be a huge benefit from this perspective for us. Where I see benefit in electric propulsion is to avoid the ongoing cost and maintenance associated with running a diesel. This would allow you to motorsail (without hesitation) when winds are light, without heating the cabin up, and without noise, vibration, smell, risk of CO leaks, requirement to carry spares etc. The range and peak power output would be a consideration, on occasion you may need quite a bit of power (strong wind/current) and would need to be sure it wasn’t going to run out of juice and quit at a critical moment. Looking forward to when this becomes feasible, only a matter of time. All the best with your sailing plans! Maybe it’ll be on a hybrid! 😄

Great vid, remember that WD40 is a cleaner that frees stuff, however, Inox is the lubricant for boats, people always get this wrong.

It should be in the contract if these resorts get damaged by cyclones either get rebuilt or returned to their original natural state.
