Dude, the fact that you did all of that just to change the sound of the hub and not the reasoning of more engagement is, well.... TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE! 🤣 Well done lol. I rock some Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3V wheels on my Checkpoint and the hubs have 108 POE. The sound is glorious. Welcome to the club, brother!! 🤘😋

i recently bought a new wheelset with 240er hubs.
My GF: why do you buy them?
      me: the sound.
      her: 800 bucks for...sound?
      me: yes.
      her: nothing else?
me: well, i gain 10-15 grams to the other wheelset.
her: 800 bucks, for goddamn sound?
      me: yes.
      her: i'll never get that.

Nice simple explanation of this swap. I'm looking at these same wheels for my Roubaix but I had no idea how to do this upgrade, thank you for that, and cheers!
On a side note, I think when I get around to doing this, I'll just go with the 36-tooth ratchet because 54 might be a little too loud for me, even though I love that sound.

Put chinese ones on my rim brake Roval C64. Do very well. The cristal sound is unique.
You guys over there should know that you don't need to use the specific DT Swiss red grease which costs a finger.
General industrial grade grease from major brands known for decades for the quality of their products do the job very well. And it will cost you $5 for 4 oz.
Did I say bike industry is sometimes a scam...? No, I did not.

Not necessary for a gravel bike and it actually has more drag than the 36T or 18T. Also much louder as well. I run the 54T on 3 mountain bikes but on my gravel bike I'll stick with the 36T.

  • @jeanmartin963
    @jeanmartin963 Рік тому +1

be careful , this is NOT an upgrade, 54 is not better than 18, it is different.
Pro : better engagement, meaning less angular movement needed for the freewhell to engage
Con : less durability, less power transmittable through the freewhell, more maintenance needed
other difference : noise with higher frequency with 54 than 18
For "all mountain" or cobblestone during competitions, that may be an upgrade. But if you ride on tarmac, or with an electric MTB, or if you are a bikepaker, or a commuter, it is not.
