bluuurrghh Shein truly is the herpes of the fashion industry.
I'm not sure if you have seen it, but Justine Leconte had a video a few months ago discussing the awfulness of Shein, and when she shook one of their items them in front of the camera... the amount of polyester fibers that the item was shedding were bad at an apocalyptic level. Like synthetic snow through a ventilator kind of bad.
Shein is one of the few brands I won't even buy second hand. If I wanted to wrap myself in horrible, shedding polyester bags, I would just have taped some clown-wigs to my body.

The dairy one has the vibe that one of the "which lifestyle is the most sustainable, which shopping bag of food has the least amount of environmental footprint" or maybe it was nutritional value..anyway, it had on purpose very bad choices in the vegan one and it was based on weight not price or sth so that the one with animal products and meat was the best 🙄.
Milk can be part of good diet. It doesn't have to be. And a large amount of adults can't really properly deal with milk anyways.
And I can't even begin with Shein.. that business should've been banned already.
Okay, nevermind edit: "Our product/our planet" Yeah, pick one, can't have both.
And also "we have reduced the amount of paper" in last meeting, they printed out 127 pieces of paper, this weeks meeting only 119, it's a BIG difference 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Also side note. H&M men's products are like from completely different clothing than H&M women's clothing. Men's shirt could honestly last for 10 years, women's is garbage after one use. 🙄 Not that H&M is very good brand to give money anyways, but that makes it even more frustrating

Nice. I always think if a product stays available for a long time, that is actually good. It means the product is well made. With 50-100 copies, you say: it's a quick prototype, we don't care.
But even companies that are trying a little harder can be seriously bad in this respect. I like Lee because they are one of the few companies that make seriously nice high waist wide-leg jeans. And I mean wide. But they only have 1 flavour that is greenish: 100% organic cotton, or organic cotton/hemp. All other colours are classic non sustainable cotton/lycra mixtures. And each year the nice organic ones runs out, and stays "unavailable" for several months, only to find out the next year the model has a slightly altered name, now is 35 cm wide instead of 34 and again 1 colour is organic/hemp. Fix that Lee. Make the product available for 5 years, all in organic cotton/hemp and don't call your dark wash different each year. Even Levi's sucks at it. Their staple 501 is the most non-stable product ever. It is never the same.

In the US big dairy is a huge influencer AND family farms with sustainable practices (grass fed, rotationally grazed animals) are basically criminalized barred from getting licensing to sell dairy legally. I can walk you through why having a family cow or a community dairy would be an incredibly sustainable option (grazing, manure compost, lifting up impoverished communities) but unfortunately it’s not possible here 😞

Shein's "we only produce 50-100 of a certain item and if it's on demand we produce more" sounds so much like artificial scarcity. So customers will buy it only because it's limited and there might be the chance it won't be available, when in the end I bet the item is going to be mass-produced anyway. Gosh, how I hate this company!

I'm actually really curious why you assume the sustainable diet is referring to the environment. In American diet culture there is a lot of talk about choosing a sustainable weight loss plan/diet that refers to being able to keep the diets way of eating permanently. Similar to sustainable weight loss.
Is there a difference in the words in Danish and how they translate that directs you to thinking of the environment?

The USA’s “Got Milk?” program sees your Danish milk campaign and says “hold my beer.”
But, I do want to know if that campaign is really claiming that milk is an environmentally sustainable part of a diet OR if it’s part of an economic/nutritionally sustainable diet- especially when you’re trying to feed kids in single family household on one or two incomes. Like you said, dairy milk is dense in nutrition and calories, and cannot be simply replaced with oat milk etc. unless you also add something else to the diet. With kids and a finite income, I can see a campaign running to educate parents on efficiently nourishing their kids in an economic way- or in other words, advertising milk as part of a sustainable diet.

I think one of the reasons dairy milk is so cheap is because it’s subsidized by the government (someone kindly correct me if I’m wrong), so imagine if the government would instead subsidize fortified plant-based options instead! We could ethically and cost effectively feed a family 🥹

I get so frustrated when they (and other companies) say something is vegan, all it means is it contains no animal products, and consumers think that means its better for the environment, when actually it will be made of polyester, or worse viscose, when production of these materials is killing the planet and people, and often going straight to landfill!

I see it Made sense when many kids were malnourished after the war, but in a time when many Kids are overweighed this should be canceled. Especially because school milk is often sugary and chocolat, strawberry or vanilla flavoured

Same things being advertised here in Canada. The goal of dairy associations is not health nor sustainability, but of course profit. With the decline of milk and dairy consumption, dairy companies are obviously struggling. The solution they came up with is to try to reintegrate milk and dairy products into what could be called a healthy diet. If the statements are true is not even a goal, but merely a business tactic without any actual efforts put into to try and solve the many problems of this industry.

Hi Tori, thank you for the question, livestock like cows, chickens and pigs are only bred into existence because there is a demand for meat and dairy from consumers, if we stopped buying meat and dairy, or if less consumers bought it, less animals would be bred, like supply and demand in any other industry, there would simply be less livestock if there was a smaller demand ☺️

Have you heard of the Burger King scandal here in Germany? A team of journalists found out (by going undercover) that employees at 5 different stores didn’t bother to store the plant chicken away from the chicken, not use the same fryer, didn’t care about the mayonnaise not being vegan because quote „until this day nobody ever complained“ and worst of all gave long chicken burgers to customers who bought the vegan one. This is so frustrating because the plant based long chicken is certified vegan (the others aren’t) so the organisation giving out those certificates checked everything from production to storage and preparation and set up rules, so this would get this certification. I find the organisation trustworthy, but as long as Burger King doesn’t care I won’t eat at Burger Kings anymore because I’m afraid to get real chicken.

your country is definitely not the only which promote milk.. in our country (Czech republic) we have EU programme called "Fruit and vegetable and milk to school"... it basically means that state have contracts with a suppliers and they get this to school which is in this programme.. they ship about twice a month and at many schools it looks like that kids get small box of milk each although they want it or not.. it's free and the fruit and veg are usually provided in small plastic box already peeled and prepared.. such a waste.. it's normal that after day when kids get this it's thrown around school etc.. there were many parents against but our country is soooo slow in implementing veg food at schools or anywhere.. this year I was fighting to be able to feed my vegetarian son his diet even in daycare, they made me get a paper from doctor he has veg diet, so they could label him as "with allergy".. Total nosence...

As far as nutritional value of milk vs plant milk alternatives goes our institute of healthy living says the following:
“And what about soy products that are fortified with calcium and vitamins such as B2 and B12? Their composition is comparable to that of milk. They provide the same amount of protein (of the same quality) and add calcium and vitamins. So is their impact on your health the same? Not necessary: the results of research into milk cannot simply be extended to products based on soy (and vice versa). There may be other factors or components specific to each product at play.
Nut, oat, and rice drinks are sometimes considered milk substitutes. Justly? No. Because these plant-based variants hardly provide any proteins, or only proteins with a low biological value. In addition, they do not contain any calcium and/or vitamins such as B2 and B12 as standard, although they are often added. They do not replace milk and have little added value in a healthy diet. It is better to eat nuts and grains whole or in less processed form.” (source: Flemish institute of healthy living, translated)
For source context, for judging: As like most sources they are prob not unbiased, but they do try to openly communicate research based stuff and aren’t afraid to lay out contradicting indications or say there’s lack of research. Their primary concern is health, but they have recently added environmental impact in their considerations as secondary marker. Health stays the main one. Their advice is also informed by current Flemish eating habits, so it’s gonna be skewed towards making changes from that average obtainable to people. As far as stances go: They aren’t promoting veganism (I think they specifically discourage it for children even, but it’s listed under their trusted diet patterns for adults with info on how to do it healthfully). They are promoting more plant-based diets. For it’s comparison to how milk is represented. They state both health benefits and health risks and claim research isn’t clear on exact health impacts and how much one should be having and refer to stating the latest high health council recommendations. They state milk and cheese have relative high environmental impact (they compare it to various meats, but not plant milks, which soy is mentioned to have a environmental advantage and that other alternatives have a higher impact) and advise moderation.
I personally am not vegan, but have a milk allergy so am sticking to my soy milk with only occasional almond xD Would love to see if people have their own go to sources and what those say nutrition and whatnot wise.

The substitutes often proposed for getting nutrients found in dairy have a significantly lower amount of calcium per serve. Anne from the channel How to Cook That made a video called “Should you stop drinking milk” where she showed how much of these substitutes you need to eat to get the same amount of calcium from a glass of milk and it’s quite unreasonable amounts.

    • @Gittemary
      @Gittemary  2 роки тому +2

You can get calcium fortified plantmilks that contains higher amounts - otherwise, as I mentioned in the video, you can get all the calcium you need from other food types if you don’t drink milk - kale has 250 mg of calcium per 100g, tofu has 680 mg per 100 grams, beans has about 120 mg - the average adult needs 1000 mg of calcium per day, and milk has 110 mg per 100 grams, so it is fairly easy to be covered by other food groups if you’re aware of your dietary needs ☺️

Why have a fight about what is claimed to be good for your body or not? (claimed by youtubers and social media infleuncers and no one else)
Instead just watch how the people are doing who do drink milk every single day and see how they are actually way healthier than you.
Those little letters are forced to be there because of legal reasons, doesn't say a single thing about the claim being real or not.
Do you drink milk every day? do you drink a liter every single day? no no and no, so how do you think you can be a judge? funny
Also have a look at babies raised on breast milk vs not, it is a day and night difference.
Babies who get powder milk have so many different problems and or sicknesses which the one fed breast milk doesn't has.
And to say milk is only for babies, well why do we still have the things in our body, working, that allow to digest everything inside the milk? :')
