As a niner fan, my stomach sank as soon as Jimmy G went down. I thought we were screwed. After the Miami game I still thought we were screwed. After the Tampa Bay game, I had hope. Now I’m confident in the kid and hope for a successful career as a niner or not. Also we don’t have the Madden curse. We have the curse of the Stick. As soon as they tore down candlestick park, we’ve been cursed with injuries

As a long time niner fan, who got to watch Montana's entire career, it took just two games for me to see very similar qualities between Purdy and the great Montana. I told my 22 year old son at that time, Purdy is going to be one of the greatest QB's of all time and he thought I was crazy. Even today, he thinks Purdy is just an average QB playing for a great coach and team. He's obviously not as wise as his old man : )

What great QB isn't surrounded by amazing talent and a great coach? 😂 He'll come around, pops. I don't think him or anyone else will have a choice!

You are so right about the connection to Montana. I too followed him throughout his time at SF. He is a smart QB. Having all the talent around you and not smart enough to know how to use them and to manage the huddle will NOT produce the good plays you need. I just want a Brock to continue to work hard and smart and be an inspiration to the rest of the team. That is the intangible… inspiration. Problem with picking a QB at the top of the draft sometimes gets into their ego. So being Mr Irrelevant humbles one and perhaps incentivise one to work harder and be smarter.

Niner fan here. I watched Purdy in preseason and Purdy was good. Shanahan had good things to say about him. When Purdy came in against Miami he played great. It was really Brocks play against Brady and he was just awesome. During the Bucs game Levi stadium chanted "Purdy, Purdy, Purdy" they even have gis father on camera crying. Purdys special..really special.

I can personally attest that when Jimmy went down I said "The season's over, we're fucked". I turned off the game, and jumped online with the boys. Came back afterwards to see we had won, saw the highlights, saw how he looked and how he stood up to the pressure to deliver strikes, and then said "damn, we might be good."

Niner Fan here, red and gold til I'm dead and cold. After Jimmy went down we all thought our season was over, after his first start most of us thought we might be ok. After his first playoff win I knew we had our new franchise QB. After 6 high stakes wins in a row and a playoff win and I saw nothing fazed him it was a wrap.

I knew brock was good when I watched him in the preseason games. He seemed head and shoulders better than other backups I've seen play so I figured he could make a push for starting for another team. Thats why I was extremely happy when the 49ers kept him as the 3rd QB on the roster (something the 49ers rarely do).

I saw him making plays against the chiefs, then I searched him up and I was so curious as to how he was in the shadow of trey and jimmy. Not even talked about. He gave that spark no other qb has given this team in a long time. He sparked and shocked everyone. But all I can say is, it’s so special to be a niners faithful, especially rn.

I watched Brock all 4 years at Iowa State, so when he came in the Dolphins game and did well, I was excited. Did I know he could hang with the big boys in the NFL, no. But I really hoped so. I became an instant 49er fan and haven’t enjoyed football so much since the 85 bears. Brock is a winner and a leader. All of this couldn’t have happened to a better guy.

I saw Purdy’s rise & believed in him ever since preseason…. If y’all watched those games, you would know he does NOT play like a rookie…. He stood out among all the rookies during preseason. It was a bittersweet moment when Jimmy went down against Dolphins but I was hyped asf to see Purdy lead this team. There’s a few of us out here that saw what Purdy had in him before his time came so when we lost him during Philly in the NFCCG I was numb asf…. A once in a lifetime Cinderella story stripped from us cause of injuries…. Now we have a chance to do it again but this time, we’ll be ready.

Niners fan. When Jimmy went down I was nervous as heck, but as someone else mentioned, you could see flashes of who he is/who he would become in the 2022 preseason, beating out a veteran who was also up for the 3rd QB spot, so I was a little less nervous than some other 49er fans might have been, and wasn't totally surprised when he began balling out. You mentioned that you might want to check out his college highlights... if you want to go high-level, former NFL QB J.T. O'Sullivan has some great film breakdown of Brock in college on his The QB School UA-cam Channel.

How good brought pretty was and how they wish he was to starter.

When Brock first came in, I had hope because Fred Warner talked about how the defense prepares against the third string QB, and it was Brock’s job to mimic each week’s QB as best he could, and I forget which QB he mentioned specifically, but Fred said Brock would pick things up so quick, like the look one way to get the defense going that way, and then throw the opposite direction of where he was looking. Fred said the defense knew he was special, so I had hope.

When Purdy was winning the games last season, I thought it would be like the Kurt Warner story. Kurt was the backup quarterback for the Rams, the starter got hurt and Kurt came in, started winning games and took the rams to the Superbowl and won. Kurt told the story, when the rams called him, he was working as a bagboy in his fathers-in-law store. When Kurt won the Superbowl he was asked how it felt to win the Superbowl making the NFL quarterback minimum salary., he said it is better pay than a bagboy.

Great reaction videos... thank you. In the playoffs when Purdy went out my first thought was why didn't they dress Jimmy G for this game since he was off injury list. I was pissed, then later came to find out they were shopping him out (picked up by Raiders) so I guess they didn't want to take a chance on anything happening to him. But, if he was ready to go the Niners could of had a chance in that game. They even had to have CMC play QB. Sad day for us Niner fans. It took almost a year to get back at the Eagles but it was so goooood!

The twist at the end is that 4th string QB also wend down in the middle of the NFC Champion game and CMC had to play QB for the rest of the game. So technically Niners had to play 5 different QBs in one season.

17:45 I would say when Purdy came out I was pretty distraught and was mad that our season might be over do to injuries yet again. but had faith. After Purdy did what he did against Miami and Bucs i knew this mans was the real deal. and going into the NFC championship i was so excited and when he got hurt my stomach dropped i couldnt believe it and then josh johnson got hurt i was like ofc this is how our season is going to end 4 injured qb's and losing to a healthy team that talked shit after we had lost all morale and hope but still fought. our defence was on the field for so long and was exhausted our runningbacks were exhausted and i was only hoping for Brock Purdy to have a speedy recovery. and he did and hes done an amazing redemption season so far!

  • @snowhawk04
    @snowhawk04 11 місяців тому

Something not covered by the video was the 2022 49ers offseason/preseason. The organization wanted to trade Jimmy, but he couldn't pass a physical until the summer. Jimmy was too expensive and the 49ers needed cap space for upcoming contracts. They also weren't going to trade him away for nothing or release him. When he finally passed a physical, he was put on the 90 man roster but didn't practice. He wasn't even given a playbook. The job was already given to Lance. Sudfeld was brought in and had a 2M guarantee that trigger if he made the final 53 roster.
That offseason, the 49ers had hired Brian Griese. He was given a task of finding a QB to develop and with one of the local scouts, found Purdy (ty Breece Hall!). Recently, late round picks are used to pick up guys you want to prioritize for your practice squad. If a player goes undrafted, you have to bid on them against other teams. The draft ensures you get the guys you want. Purdy was one of those guys and the plan was to develop him on the practice squad. Purdy's S2 (cognition test) was in the mid 90s. That's Brees, Mahomes, Allen, Burrow level. Anything over 80 is considered elite.
So they had Jimmy on the block, Trey QB1, Sudfeld QB2, and Purdy QB3. Purdy gets to work, balling out in early preseason. Teams around the league are expecting the 49ers to release Jimmy, so they wait as they aren't willing to pay the 49ers ask. The 49ers and Jimmy get together, decide they want to stay together, and Jimmy agrees to a restructure late in the preseason. Trey is still QB1, Jimmy is QB2, Sudfeld and Purdy battle for QB3. Sudfeld is losing and has the 2M guarantee, so the 49ers decide to stick with Purdy. But they now have a problem. The plan was to develop Purdy from the practice squad. His performance in preseason made them believe another team could end up claiming him. So in the final cuts, they kept Purdy on the roster as QB3. He had earned it. In the fanbase, there was a small vocal group excited to see what he could do in the regular season if given the chance.
Watching him in that first Dolphins game was fantastic. He didn't put up huge numbers, but he stood in their and killed their blitz. You can see the growth in Purdy from college to his first preseason game to the miami game, to the start of this season, through today. It's been fun to watch.
In the NFCCG, Purdy got hurt. Then Josh Johnson came in only to get concussed. CMC ran a couple plays before Purdy came in. But Purdy's arm was dead and all he could do is hand it off.

Lmao. My coworker literally texted me when jimmy went down. I called him and told him "We'll be fine, this rookie Brock Purdy is good." My coworker was confused cause he knew Purdy was "Mr Irrelevant", so I explained to him that i watched him during the preseason and he was awesome. My coworker basically laughed in my face (understandable). I know it's only the preseason, but he impressed me and i really enjoyed watching him which gave me high hopes for him. Only problem was I thought Shanahan would let him go because we had Nate Sudfield who was guaranteed money. I was over the roof that we kept him and dropped Sudfield instead. I've never been like this for a backup but it was just something about him. My coworker to this day never forgot what I said to him when Jimmy went down. But when Purdy went down.... that was depressing.

Lifelong 49ers fan here. Go back and watch him in the preseason his rookie year. He popped on the film for me! I was hoping Trey would be the future. Then he got hurt early in the season. I knew what we had in Jimmy and he wasn't the most impressive. Although with a good team around him he got us to the bowl before. I went to the Broncos game in Denver when Jimmy stunk up the joint and I remember screaming at one point "put in Purdy!"😂 Sometimes I wonder if he heard me because we weren't too far from the 49er bench.😅 I had some reservations when he had to come in when Jimmy got hurt. However, in all honesty I felt he was better than Jimmy already at the time.

When Jimmy went down, I was like "oh, the season is over." The Dolphins were a hot team coming into that game plus it was a heavily anticipated match for us Niner fans because it was Shanahan vs McDaniel. Then as Brock threw his first TD, i was like "okay, not bad" then as the game went on and we burried the Dolphins, i was like "this guy can play" but i still was very concerned about the season being over.. i was still in the mindset of this is just a one off, a rookie lucky win and he has to go up against the GOAT Tom Brady making a return home to the Bay Area with every reason to be motivated to win against a rookie Mr. Irrelevant. Then Brock did what he did and straight up murdered the Bucs and never looked back. I'd say after the win in Seattle in a hostile environment, battling a rib injury, and on a short week(TNF) is when i was sold on Brock.

My first reaction upon seeing Brock play:
I liked him from the moment I saw him in the preseason of his rookie year.
I was glad when the final cuts were made, and it was reported that Shanahan had cut Nate Sudfeld in favour of Purdy.
As usual with the 49er fanbase, the reaction was split for, and against. I think a lot of it had to do with our Cap situation
at the time - as the 49ers had signed Sudfeld to a guaranteed 2 million dollar contract to be the backup QB to Trey.
This is a direct quote from Kyle: "There's nothing done yet" Shanahan said after the game.
"Sudfeld can move a bit and has a strong arm, but he practices way better than he plays in games".
"Purdy can move a bit less and does not have a strong arm (by NFL standards), but he seems
like a gamer - he plays better in games than he practices"
BTW, and IMO, this is a better video titled "The Rise of Brock Purdy":

When Brock Purdy came in and showed what he had against the Dolphins... I was like we might have something. Then game after game he kept proving why he belonged as the QB. Third String QB out performing QB's across the league. The injury in PHI was devastating. Eagles would've been shut down and Brock Purdy would of shown the entire world taking his team halfway through the year to the Super Bowl why he is #1. 42-19 Eagles blowout was a ego-check "Told ya so" moment and the entire city knew it after that game. 49ers could win the Super Bowl if Brock Purdy and the rest the super starters stay healthy and smart. Nobody would of known who Tom Brady was if Bledsoe didn't get injured. Lance, Garappolo got injured and Brock Purdy came in for the Niners like the second coming of Joe Montana. This year might be the year Niner Nation takes home the 6th Ring. #FTTB

Later the game he ran through the middle took off lower his shoulder to hit a guy then jump forward for 2 extra yards for the first, I was like okay this guy looking like a beginning Steve Young.
Non 49er fans don't understand what Kyle does with his playbook, give us any QB in the league and Kyle wouldn't change his playbook. The playbook is a game manager type plays, insert QB now that QB gets called a game manager, when it's like naw Kyle just doesn't run open field plays.
This is why we draft players like Deebo Aiyuk Kittle none our beat the guy down field get open then catch the ball. Rather all 3 are like let me run my route beat my man throw me the ball to get a 1st then everything else is a bonus, then all 3 say watch me work.
We got the perfect players for the playbook the HC gives us. Purdy can throw bombs just not many know this cause bombs aren't apart of the playbook. However Purdy is smart like when he said he noticed Adams be off and switched the play to Deebo.
Purdy someday can take us to the Superbowl and win it, and haters still be calling him a game manager.
Biggest team fans I see calling him a game manager is Eagles and Cowboy fans, still even after he torched them both.

I knew Brock had potential after he beat out the 3rd string guy they gave guaranteed money to, and he was raw but decent in preseason.
But when he came in early in that Miami gameto pul out a win and how he performed in his first official start @Tampa Bay, I knew the 49ers had found a pearl, and after the showdown for the division @Seahawks..
I knew Then they had struck GOLD.
This year I get de ja vu because...
I got to watch Joe become Montana.
Now I get to see Brock become Purdy.
Their play style is very similar in many ways and I also see how Brock has his own style legacy to write with Super star teams he is and will be a part of ALL playing together for the ultimate Bowl.
It's an honor and a privilege to experience again.
Go 49ers, win on 3... WIN!

That's exactly why. All the teams wanting an Allen, Hurts, Mahomes, Lawrence, Lamar etc. They weren't, aren't looking for another Brady and the niners got another Brady/Montana

That first game when he checked in for Jimmy G he had my support. I thought the team was good enough to win with an average qb. Then game after game came and left and i have grown into a fanatic. He will be our next HOF qb. He may not be Brady but his legacy will be remembered just the same. I also feel this team will not get greedy and break up over max contracts. I think this team wants to win together.

Not gonna lie, I thought our season was over the moment JimmyG came got injured. When Brock threw several passes...I said...."okay young pup"
Then he threw his first TD to Juice and...I got out my chair and started clapping...."LETS GOOOO""" then the glimpsed...."Oh WOW....we might get something from Purdy".....The rest is history.

when brock first came in after jimmy got hurt I was like damn season over but I was curious bc I pay attention to all the practice reporting and supposedly he was dicing on the scout team. then he started playing well and I was like wow he's actually pretty good. Then he made a throw to kittle over the middle on third and 10 with a free rusher about to hit him hard and I knew he was different and we would be good with him. After the next game we blew out the Bucs I was 100% sold

Its because of his height, arm, and accuracy. 49ers just had a GOOD scout, and a good QB coach in Griese to ask around and see something in Purdy. Now every team look stupid.

As a niner fan I wasn’t hurt my Jimmy getting hurt because all of our QBs are just system QBs. So I was like okay anyone can do this but when I seen Purdy, I immediately knew this guys is DIFFERENT. Purdy was so poised and control and he RAN yk how happy I was to see a QB scramble. I said “in Purdy we trust” immediately and still say it to this day

ALL qbs are technically "system" qbs. its their fault if they cant play within the "system" or dont understand it or they just have a shitty HC, OC

When the season started and Trey Lance was the starter I told my friend, we’re not going to the Super Bowl with this guy and I believed he wouldn’t make it past the third game and they would reinstall Jimmy Garoppolo. As it turned out he barely made it through the second game due to his injury. Then we were rolling with Jimmy and winning almost every game. Then when he went down and Brock came in and just didn’t skip a beat I thought well this is the team and we’re going to the Super Bowl and hopefully Jimmy will be back on his feet to win in the Super Bowl. But it didn’t happen.

As a niner fan , the KC appearance was nothing . Mop up duty . But in all honesty, that Miami game I knew he had something. Miami was putting up points and sending the house . Brock never looked like a deer in the headlights or got happy feet. The first start, when he hit the swim move over the defender , and layered a throw to Deebo , I knew he was going to atleast challenge Trey for a job. But I had complete confidence as soon as he hit the double fake screen to Kittle in Seattle to win the west … a win in Seattle which Kaep really struggled with, so that was refreshing . By the first playoff win, the starting job was hit. Obviously the injury gave me some doubts but this year week 4 told me everything I needed to see. 20/21 against the cardinals . The niners got a drew Brees prototype and starting to even look like some AR12

Their are still doubters out there who says he's a system QB thats being carried by the talent around him and coach. Its true that having good talent and coaching make players better but in the end the QB is the one deciding who to throw to and when as well as making quick decisions like running it or throwing the ball away.

To me he is strangely similar to Joe Montana. Joe’s greatest attribute was just how unflappable he was. The moment was never too big for Joe. Brock has that same quality. Then there’s the fact both have that accuracy and mobility and arm talent.

I first saw that he was better than Nate S in the preseason. When he got his chance, you could immediately see he could move better than Jimmy G. When he started winning, I held back from thinking crazy stuff. By season's end, I thought he gave us the best chance to win a championship than anybody we had previously. Now, a inaccurate pass makes you think the receiver messed up!

Yup we were cursed bc of what they did to Colin Kaepernick. They black balled him bc of his righteousness.
When Jimmy G went down, I was like “yup our season is over” that’s exactly what I said , I knew nothing about purdy besides preseason but lots of back up QbS look good in preseason, so I just chalked our season up, then I saw his decision making was so natural I was hold on this guy isn’t getting lucky this is natural for him we will be fine.
