Brock Purdy is terrorizing the NFL, and there is nothing that defenses can do about it. Kyle Shanahan, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers offense is absolutely loaded with superstar talent, but, don’t think Brock Purdy is just some guy. He has proven through the first month of the 2023 season that he is absolutely a legit quarterback, and he is the lead dog of a devastating attack. How good is he really? This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 to analyze the 49ers offense with Quarterback Brock Purdy leading the way.

Whenever you see a Mahomes blow up spot, you SMASH a Mahomes blow up spot (Patrick, that is).
this video gave goosebumps, this should be showed before the SNF game, in there preshow comparisons, incredible.
Alex again with another great video. Keep up the awesome stuff. Number one fan of this channel

Summarized: Purdy's processor is incredibly fast, he knows the ins and outs of both coverage shells and pass-rush looks, and he's ICE-COLD under pressure. He might not have all the physical tools, but he's an incredibly intelligent QB who won't back down to any defense.
Dallas will be his ultimate test because they will be the best pass rush he's faced this season with Micah along with the best team by far. he wont have time to go through all of his progressions and he's not a very mobile qb which Dallas struggles with so his best bet is to keep getting rid of the ball fast whenever he throws those quick short to intermediate throws
He has all the tools…
@@ryanr20091Dallas struggles with mobile quarterbacks? Good thing they don't have any good ones in their division...
@@jimhench8421not all the physical ones but intangibles yes he has all of those
@KevonDaDon what he can't run a 4. 4 40 yard dash? He can't throw the ball 75 yards? Lol he has all the tools
“But what if…” blah blah blah. Purdy is COOKING.
Nothing wrong with understanding both the nuanced good and bad of a situation
Most of the people saying "dont question it! Purdy is cooking!" are the same people that will criticize other NFL players by saying "he just sucks, don't question it" when their struggles mostly arent their fault. If Purdy was drafted by the Browns, you wouldn't know who he is (and thats no knock against Purdy, hes good, but how many other good players never even got a chance of recognition because teams dont use or teach them properly?)
Gotta always point out the good and the bad in order to be giving players a fair shot
@@PantsaBear I don’t think playing what if games about players being on different teams is a fair shot at all, and it’s not understanding the nuances of the game. It’s just hypothetical questions. Nuances of being a qb are things like having your feet set, timing, knowing coverages. Tangible things. Playing what if games has nothing to do with judging a qb.
Stop 👏 saying 👏 cooking 👏.
@@jeffridge3727exactly you could literally do that with any player in any in the history of sports… or anything for that matter, such a stupid take by these people to discredit Purdy

Crazy how Alex came to this conclusion without even putting his 20-21 game. Easily his best game this season. The kid legit.
Yep, and he's very clearly still improving. Kyle is also still learning how to call plays for Brock.
P.S. His repaired arm looks stronger this year.
That was awesome. It’s crazy to hear an announcer point out, “That’s his first missed attempt,” Well into the game. They get the ball, and move, and move fast. He’s so much fun to watch. I happened to watch the game against Miami, last year, and continued watching Just to see someone have such a good start to a career. I haven’t missed a game, since and he just keeps getting better. It’s exciting that my Lions are doing so well, and my other childhood favourite team, is back to killing it.
I think his game against the Giants was a little better.
@@LoanwordEggcornHe didn’t have to get Tommy John.

What’s been underrated is Purdys Connection with Aiyuk. I feel like they’ve built some chemistry which has led to their success on the field.
I think he's got one incompletion to Aiyuk

Purdy is really unlocking that Shanahan offense that has had to be dumbed down years prior. His ability to read a defense and his field vision is incredible for a second year player. He plays like a long time veteran.
Kinda exposes Jimmy G to a degree.. Dude was not making these reads that Purdy is.. And his 'happy feet' drove me absolutely insane!!!! I knew a pick was more than likely whenever hte happy feet kicked in
Exactly if anyone was benefiting from the team around him it was Jimmy G. And I liked Jimmy to an extent but in the NFL a scared QB is a scared QB I don’t care if he’s coached by Bill Walsh and had Jerry rice as a receiver
@@aunch3 I agree! And I'll go a step further.. The so-called talking heads/media pundits who still call Purdy a system qb/game manager are exposed for either not watching film or not being able to comprehend what's going on on said film.
After watching several QB YT channels (AlexRollins was a lil late to the party, as he admitted), even last year, it was plain as day to see how good Purdy is and that's he's different.. I honestly haven't seen QBing this good in the Red n Gold since the 90s.. BUT this is what you get when the Chef (Shanahan) gets the perfect ingredients for HIS restaurant.. he's able to expand the menu.
So the fact you still have people like Nick Wright, who I know is smart, but his inner fandom gets the best of him, both on air and at the bookies, lol.. Anyone he sees as a threat to his fav player (LBJ/Mahomes) he immediately is biased against them, lol.. Steph and GS are a prime example.. The dickhead always conveniently forgets that Steph won two rings WITHOUT KD whenever he says, 'well Steph needed help from KD'.. And then says 'LBJ didnt need AD's help in the bubble!!'.. Dude argues like a female lmao... double-standards galore
Poise, pocket presence and vision are far more valuable QB traits than arm strength. I wish the football world would figure that out.

@@Suga_j_fitness15 thank you, brotha!
YES
For a guy that was barely drafted just a bit more than a year ago, this is impressive development. Sure, he has a lot of talented help and great coaching but considering he has already outdeveloped all expectations by a mile, I'm excited to see what he can become.
What’s crazy about that is that he had a great career before the NFL. He took his high school to a state championship, was recruited by Alabama, and set 18 records at Iowa State! It’s literally just his photo and combine numbers that made him go unnoticed.
@@nathanchildress5596 yeah unless you’re a freak athlete if you look like a plain white male you’re not getting any attention. NFL is racist against white people
It's not development. He was the same way at Iowa St.
He would've been in the superbowl if it weren't for the injury. His debut as a starter against Brady was truly a "passing the torch" moment
@@dre32pitthe was good In college for sure but he’s been getting better you can see how much more comfortable he is than last year

Unlike Jimmy Garoppopick I am NOT nervous every time Purdy takes a snap to pass the ball
Funny you say that because that’s how every 9er fan felt. My stomach goes up every time I watched jimmy play because the dude makes stupid throws
Exactly. When Jimmy was under pressure, he likes to try and do this Mahomes thing, and often ends up being a disaster.
Jimmy G gave me anxiety and hbp with every drop back! Brock in the pocket is as cool as it gets.
@@tasan215That was every 9ers fan when Jimmy was QB.
Well now he’s the raiders problem and they absolutely hate him. 😂😂😂
Purdy has scrambled less this season. He has that in his bag, but last season he relied on that a little too much especially in the Dallas game in the divisional rd and left some yards on the field. This season he seems to be more reliant presnap recognition and anticipation which has led to some really impressive throws. And BTW, he completed some nice deep balls vs Arizona. His deep ball is not consistent but he CAN make those throws
I would like to see him use his legs a little more but what he and Shanahan arre doing is certainly working.
The Niners offense hasn't used YAC as much this season to gain yards..Purdy is #10 in air yards thrown....SF QBs have traditionally been bottom 10 in this metric. And he is also throwing over the middle a bit less this season based on his throw charts, which may be the reason his INT % is very low ( something Arod used to do)
Him throwing deep at the very least keeps the defense honest. I remember seeing several plays where Jimmy had Aiyuk wide open 1-1 but he would still throw it short against stacked boxes. Defenses didn’t respect Jimmy’s deep ball; they certainly have to respect the fact that Brock can and will go deep.
With time his deep throws will get better and after a year he is not only comfortable in the nfl but he is figuring things out all on his own. Kyle said it best, he sees stuff that even Kyle didnt see coming.
He is also #2 in air yards attempted, which is only 2nd behind Tua. Many have a casual narrative that he is a "YAC merchant" because they only watched the giants game on national TV and saw him having to rely on a lot of screens and short game to combat the giants 85% blitz rate, but the truth is he is a real gunslinger and attacks all parts of the field
I think he got coached out of scrambling as much, Kyle said it made him nervous. But the result is that he protects the ball as well as anyone in the league
@@nathanchildress5596 @micahkiyimba8641 The reason Brock is not scrambling as much is because he's executing the schemed offense better. And Kyle is still learning what plays to call for Brock.
Brock's elite strengths: Pocket poise, progression processing, quick/accurate release, tough as nails.
Brock Purdy has that Drew Brees accuracy and pocket passing ability!
The Alex Rollins curse.
Does a video on Justin Fields being broken, next game Fields goes off
Does a video on Mike McDaniel and the unstoppable Dolphins offense. Next game the Bills shut the offense down and blow them out
Does a video on Maxx Crosby being unstoppable. Crosby has been stopped by a bad Bills OL
Does a video on Brock Purdy being terrific. Purdy immediately follows it up with the worst game of his career
NFL teams have been warned. Pray Rollins doesn't make a video on you or else the odds will turn against you on your next game!
Brock Purdy can play and be successful in any timing based/west coast offense.
He's way more than a game manager, carried by surrounding talent.
u realize he has ice in veins? similar to that lowa girl clarke (basketball)
lol, all other elite qbs are successful without any surrounding talents , blathering idiot.
He can play in any offense.. The offensive scheme is more about an overall philosophy and normally the biggest differences are just the language and vernacular associated with said scheme.. people keep trying to come up with qualifiers as to why he fell so far.. he fell because humans were involved and humans are easily distracted by what looks good on paper and most arent going to take a shot on a kid who looks like the HS team catcher because if they flop, they lose their jobs.. if you fail on a 'stud' pick, well, you made the best choice you could at the time.. Well, unless you're Kyle and Lynch, lolol.. They drafted a completed a dud and moved all kinds of draft capital to do so, and were literally rescued by their QB coach suggesting to draft Purdy..
the best aspect of your post is the evidence you offer for the claim that "Purdy can...be successful in any timing based/west coast offense"...whoops, no evidence offered
@@provosta Try watching his games, it's probably more convincing than a youtube comment from someone you don't know.
Do you need evidence for that ? The best aspect of your post is that you waited for a 2 INTs game to comment, as if QBs don't throw INTs.
I think Brock has a combination of skills that, while none are “awesome” - you won’t see him throw 80 yards like Josh Allen or have a Load-to-Release (LTR) of just over 0.3 like Tua - he seems to be good at nearly everything. Obviously he’s really accurate and his ball placement and throwing on-time or even early if necessary helps his receivers a lot. But it’s his brain that sets him apart. I read that the NFL ditched the Wonderlic - I think it was political (yes, I have taken it myself and scored better than the average NFL QB and I had just had major spine surgery to boot) - but Brock took another IQ-like test and scored very high, supposedly. So I think Brock is successful because he has a combination of smarts and few true weaknesses.
Its called the S2 Conginitive test. He scored in the mid 90's. Where guys like Brady, P. Manning and Drew Brees scored.
You said he and Jimmy G are the same guy😂😂
3:05 WR Jauan Jennings knocks Aaron Donald back as if Jennings were playing Tackle, giving Purdy time to make that throw 🔥🔥
How’s this? “If Troy Aikman would’ve played for the Lions, he wouldn’t be a Hall Of Famer” but guess what? He did. And he won and he is. Brock may not be the create a player that Anthony Richardson is but he’s incredibly smart, a leader and has BALLS. and fits perfectly into his coaches scheme.
Yeah, his potential turnover percentage is a bit high but he is still technically a rookie. That's what's impressive here.
And who's to say his arm doesn't get better? Tom wasn't elite right away. His deep ball wasn't amazing right away either. Brock can probably work on a few mechanics to clean up his deep ball. He did sort of miss an off season of training because his elbow was rehabbing.
I say all of this just say "Bro is just getting it done." Sure, he has all the talent around him. He has an amazing coach. And he has an amazing defense too, but so did Tom. And we discredited him for many years as well.
Brock still has things to learn and grow in but as long as he puts in the work, keeps to the grind, I don't see why he can't be a great QB.
potential turnover percentage seems less important than actual turnover percentage.
@@Ianimatestuff Not wrong.
He's already great, and he's clearly still improving.
Brock is definitely good. Best QB of the 2022 draft class. But I still think there’s more I need to see. 9ers picking up CMC last season definitely sparked their offense cuz of RB injury issues in the oast

Brocks best ability is him being almost impossible to sack and never caves under pressure, much like Mahomes, Brady, and elite QBs in general!
He remains calm and does not make horrific decision when under pressure. This makes him better than 80% of the QB in the league.
He's reminds me of Eli Manning. He's able to escape and keep the play going to get the ball down the field.
@@emilioaguirre1634Eli Manning was also known for being extremely inconsistent

One of the biggest questions that I have is how could have Purdy's college coach been so WRONG in his assessment of Purdy's talents and capabilities?! This is a man who was around him on a football field for FOUR YEARS! 🤷♂️
Thanks for the spotlight on Glock13. He's been a wunderkind on a warpath ever since he got an opportunity. Regardless of the quality roster, and coaching staff helping him out, the offense has clearly shifted into a superior gear with him as triggerman. And as you stated, his poise is very remarkable for his limited experience in the pros. As nutty as it sounds, he really does remind me of Joe Montana's slick battle swagger on the gridiron. The viewtiful pocket waltzing, swift decision making...he never seems intimidated by any of the challengers. I hope Brock is the one that gets the 49ers back to the top of the mountain. It's an incredible story thus far.
Thanks TLD! His poise might be his greatest strength, we saw it his very first game with some of the cover 0 stuff Miami threw at him. He's incredible
Look how many defenders just BARELY miss the opportunity to tip or deflect his passes on film. He may not have all those flashy physical tools of other QBs but he puts some ZIP on that ball for defenders to consistently be late on getting to it.
Im a lifelong 49ers fan and even i am terrified of Brock Purdy 😂
Dude is low key one of the best QB's in the NFL since he TOUCHED the field. Everyone hating because of where he was picked. They don't know ball tho. 49ers have a high chance of making the NFC champ game and possible super bowl apperance. But only if Purdy is at QB
Ppl were so caught up comparing him to Jimmy G, they forget they're comparing a vet experienced QB to a 7th round rookie. If that isn't high praise for a rookie idk what is. Its like any young QB can improve from their rookie season unless you're Purdy apparently. He's only getting better
I don’t understand it tbh. Kurt Warner was undrafted and went on to become an MVP/HOF everyone loves him, Brady was the same way but started way slower in terms of top qb play until 2004 he was hated like Brock too. We’re witnessing another one of those underdog QB stories.
I picked them to run through most of their games they have a light schedule and should be in contention for the number one seed in the nfc other than Dallas and Philly they won't really be tested all year
At 6:23 the defense must be REALLY frustrated. The rusher had nearly a free shot at Purdy and the receiver isn’t exactly wide open. But Purdy looks like he takes a five-step drop, throws early off his back foot really to a spot, then slides to even avoid getting hit while delivering a strike. Most quarterbacks here might try to set that back foot to push off and in this case they would get sacked and be lucky to just unload a duck, trying to simply not take a loss. But Brock seems to do this over and over again so it’s no fluke.
The crescendo at the end of your vids gives me chills everytime. Nice touch. 🤘🏾
Thank you!

Great Vid, I’m honestly sick of the narrative from certain fans claiming that his success is strictly due to the personnel surrounding him. The kid is doing exactly everything you’d want your quarterback to do with no other character issues getting in the way. I just think many like to discredit him because they have a preconceived notion about his ceiling due to his draft position. But honestly I’m rooting for the guy and can see him being a great as long he stays healthy 🙌🏽

I’m not saying he’ll win multiple Super Bowls as he hasn’t even reached one yet, but Purdy just _feels_ like the Gen Z Tom Brady.

Yes, i do wonder what he would do w/o these MonSTARS on the field, but for now IT DOESNT MATTER🎉🎉🎉.
Some of the scrambles last year were due to still learning scheme. He's got that mostly solved this year and is still improving. And Kyle is still learning to call plays for him.
@@LoanwordEggcorn agreed. And its good to know he still has that tool in the shed. To think that he has been tearing it up qithout using hardly at all... 🤯. Maybe this Sunday he'll have to.
Rookies often have statistical outliers of a first season (There's a ton recently: Watson, Burrows, Mayfield, Jackson, etc.) where they will light up the league for their first season or part of a season. Once there is enough tape to analyze tendencies and craft a Pro defense to stop/slow them down there is usually a period of struggling and regressing to the league norm, or slightly below. It happens to rookies all the time, the question becomes whether they can learn how to outwit the defense that knows what you want to do.
By about the third quarter of week 1, I was already thinking Purdy looks even better than last year (that stat about his intermediate field passing completion rate improving form 80% to 90% this year is literally incredible - if anyone can find any other QB's at any point in their career that have put up those kind of stats, I'm all ears as to who). Week 5 is done, one of the two other teams in the Conference that could challenge the 49ers has been handily dispatched, and Purdy looks like a vet's vet that has seen everything an NFL defense can bring at you. His offensive teammates, and the creative playcalling help a lot (no doubt, landing in the right spot matters), but this kid looks every bit the real deal and I'm dubious that there is a team in the NFL that can stop this 49ers squad if they're healthy.

Exciting to watch this guy develop.
IF, and only IF the Niners go back to the Super Bowl, and it’s against the Chiefs, that will be a hell of a story. The possibility of redemption, after Super Bowl 54. Kyle Shanahan completely redeems himself from 28-3. Niners end their three decade long championship drought. And, we might get a new rivalry, like Brady-Manning. Ok, the last one is a long shot.
It's probably too hard to get a Brady-Manning-level rivalry between QBs of different conferences. Those two met virtually every year, either because of the 3 year AFC East vs. South rotation, or because they won their divisions. (And they were in the same division in 2001.) Purdy and Mahomes could meet once every 2 years at most, outside of Super Bowls. Purdy-Hurts is a good longterm possibility, though.
You'd think that winning every regular season game you've started as well as a couple post season games would be good enough for people, but I guess we have to take human nature into account because some people just want to hate.
Can you do a video on why the Commanders defense is awful so far this season?

It's crazy how much influence pre-draft evaluations have. There are STILL analysts giving credit to anyone on this offense but Purdy, talking about him as if the other shoe will drop at any second. But if he'd been evaluated for the first round, I bet there would already be talk of him as a dark horse MVP candidate and discussion around how the 49ers are set for the next decade+ because he's there.
As a fan of Purdy while he was at ISU for no particular reason, I'm so happy to see him ball out at the highest level. One of the easiest dudes to root for
He had some close calls where his receivers bailed him out - it really is noticable. But most of these, I saw in the first two games this season. He seems more settled now.
Eh rams and giants games he had a couple of turnover worthy plays that were lucky not to get picked
Imagine Nick Saban told Purdy he's too inaccurate to play for him at Alabama
You watch this guy with his accuracy along with the most important trait for a QB: consistency. Then you watch Dak P. who is anything but. Jerry Jones you have been had.
He's going to become one of the greats!!!
They said the same thing about Joe Montana and Tom Brady. IM NOT SAYING, he will ever get close to them but just to say you don’t have to have overwhelming arm strength and win the combine to be a good-great qb. If he’s such a “system” QB how come we’ve never seen any QB on the 49ers put up these numbers? 🤔
The niners are so good. Imagine if they got Purdy on purpose and used all that draft capital from lance on the team 😳
The #12 draft pick they traded for Trey Lance was used to select Micah Parsons.
Hey Alex - as a New England fan and a longtime Brady stan, he's the person I've watched the most film study on. Would you say Purdy seems to share a lot of his traits? Excellent pre-snap reads, quick processing, decent arm talent where outside throws aren't his speciality, toughness, discipline, loves the middle of the field, gets the ball out quick, and has excellent pocket presence. It looks like where they differ is that Brady proved himself with every type of offense where Purdy is still in his second year, Brady had a bit more zip on the ball in the second half of his career, and Purdy has more natural talent with off-platform throws and isn't the slowest man (by a lot) on the field like Brady was. Also, Purdy seems a bit more brazen/aggressive, where Brady seemed content throwing a quick hot with his snappy release for the sake of getting the ball out quick.
What do you think? Most QB film study I watch I always come back to Brady as a point of reference, and QBs like Purdy and Tagovailoa always pop out to me as having a similar game. Any wisdom you could shed? Any QBs' film you'd suggest I watch as another point of reference?
There are some similarities in play style to Brady fersure. I'd say Purdy and Tua are basically the same guy in terms of play style
Cool analysis!
Thanks!
I’d love to see a Myles Garrett episode. He is dominating right now
Garrett was certainly "dominating" Purdy 10 days ago
need that brock and george kittle connection to come alive. i feel like gkittle hasnt been getting the ball lately. partly bc aiyuk is such a good route runner
I would much rather have a QB that is smart and quickly processes than a QB who has huge amounts of athleticism. A smart QB knows how to utilize a team, an ultra athletic QB knows how to use their body.
What if he’s missing one or two of his receivers when u literally watching a game without one of them ☠️☠️
He's really impressive.
Oh damn his weakness is that sometimes he might throw a ball into coverage ( 4x this year 0 picks) lololol He has to be perfect apparently
Hes not the best downfield passer from that's is weakness. Hes limited from there but that's okay he knows his limitations very self-aware a sign of intelligence.
Don’t sleep on bro…..he’s gonna be a star 💫
Cant wait for this Sunday. Go Niners!
6:53 -- "An NFL pass-rusher, running untouched, is smashing you in less than 2 seconds..."
Yet Purdy still AVOIDS THE CONTACT! Absolute legend.
Those Throws He Made Against Cowboys Were Eye Candy...Being a Great QB Will Always be About Decision Making and Accuracy...This Kid Has Them in Spades
It’s not whether or not BCB is a good QB. It’s obvious he’s playing great. But….. is he up to 49er standards…. We shall see…gotta win the SB buddy. Keep rollin.
Woah woah you're TERRORIZING all the haters narratives with all this logic bro! Keep on it 😃
