    Thank you for the video. Been holding onto my wrench for over a decade in case I could fix it. Excellent information . . . could not have fixed it without your help.
    For those of you who might be experiencing difficulties reassembling due to the plastic retainer, here's how I was able to do get it in place:
    Loosen the calibration nut and unscrew the threaded stud out until it stops. This keeps the spring out of the way whilst trying to angle it in to place.
    Push the retainer down into the body of the wrench, keeping the detent knob aligned with the detent hole in the body.
    This next step I used a 9/16 deep socket on a long extension to push the retainer into place.
    Finally install wrench head into the body while keeping the aligned with the groove/tang in the receiver piece.
    If it is in place the detent knob will be in the hole in the body of the wrench.
    All that is left is to reinsert the retainer pin and clip.

      Glad it helped. It's not a perfectly precise process but it's better than never being able to use it. Glad it's back working for you.

    Just watched this, and could fix my old Craftsman. Slightly different, just watch out for all the tiny ball bearings in the sleeve. There was some rust, so cleaned it all and regreased. Works ok. I didn't fiddle with the calibration and left the handle on. Problem was it wasn't "clicking", so fixed. Thank you.

    Since the allen screw was 5mm, the nuts are technically 19mm. 3/4" = 19.05mm. Good video, thanks.

    Hi Off Road - I'm working on my Craftsman torque wrench - little bit different style... But those are NOT drive pins! So they CANNOT be driven out. But they are TWO small pins 0.1550" diameter & 0.1695 length. With a little bit of gentle banging and sometimes the help of a magnet - you can get them to drop out or PULL them out. They are not a driven IN pin - they are each just placed and gently pushed in with a finger. And they will 'drop' out.

    I have a 3/8" drive that is a similar design, although probably a bit older. Mine clicks both ways. It needs calibrated, but I can't get a socket inside the handle big enough to loosen the nut.

  • @raynic1173

    For calibration, hang 1 gallon of water from the handle. Depending on temp. (easy to find a chart). Approximately 8 + lbs. I think 50 degrees is 8.33 lbs. and slowly lightens as temp goes up. Don't forget tare weight of the jug for greater accuracy.

    How do you get the cap off the handle to get to the adjuster? And do you know how to get to the adjuster on the 1/2" drive torque wrench? Thanks.

    • @OffRoadEndeavor
      @OffRoadEndeavor  2 роки тому +1

      I used a small pick to pop off the plastic end cap. If the 1/2"drive is the same construction then I would think everything would be the same. Unfortunately, I only disassembled this one.

    I have a different issue that involves the red lock/unlock ring on the grip. Unfortunately, it no longer locks in place once the desired torque is set.
    Your video was helpful for me to remove the black plastic grip (with the red lock/unlock ring) from the wrench.
    With a thick flathead screwdriver, the red lock ring can be carefully pried up and removed from the black plastic grip. There are two flat metal "spring lock" pieces on each side of the black grip that, when engaged, allow it to lock at the selected torque. Mine isn't locking.
    Wondering if you have any suggestions?

    What I dont understand is how these things can seize up and refuse to "click" just by sitting in a cabinet, with the tension all the way down.

    • @OffRoadEndeavor
      @OffRoadEndeavor  2 роки тому

      Now that's a mystery. Maybe rust? Hope you figure it out.

      @@OffRoadEndeavor I took it apart; inside was what I assume was grease at some point in its life and is now more like asphalt. Cleaned it out and put it back together. Clicks again, altho not with as much authority as it used to. Took me forever to figure out a way to get the little plastic doohickey back in. Of course now the calibration is way off, but thats straightforward to fix.

    Can you show or tell us what you did to the inner nut before the handle? Did you loose the tension first with the allen wrench? The handle has a lot of play on mine took apart and put it back together but when I turn the handle it starts to have play again. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Craftsman has fallen a long way over the years. This problem you're showing is the very problem mine has because it's been a "Non-Clicker" since day one. I merely assumed it was brand new and never checked it, but then I didn't need it so it set on the shelf for 6 years and then I find it's a dud.
    “Assume” makes an “ass out of you and me”. If you break it up, it looks like this “ass u me”

    Did you manage to fix it? Mine clicks with minimal force. I only used my cheap torque once and it worked. Stored it in loose torque setting not minimum and then it didn’t click again. So I cleaned everything but now it clicks with minimal force even with the highest torque setting

      The more people that do this the higher the future price will be for this product. You're basically forcing the manufacturer to recoup it's loss by charging the consumer more. The loss is spread over the entire customer base. So...thanks for running the cost up for honest folks. Not impressed.
