We always used 3in1 oil in those carbs to top them up

That car has been retrofitted with a 2200 unit. Far better, more torque and is happy with unleaded petrol with no modifications. Result!
3-in-1 oil, available from any DIY shop is ideal for the SU's dampers. Cheap too.

3-in-1 for carbs works a treat.

I've always used SAE30 oil as used in 4 stroke mower engines. A bottle will last a lifetime whereas a little bottle of supposed specialist oil will be gone in 5 minutes! Having removed the distributor cap I would have given the carbon electrode a gentle tug to ensure that it is making contact with the rotor arm. Then I would remove each plug lead from the cap, ensure lack of furriness and then replace firmly. The TC originally had a rotor arm with a centrifugal cutout to prevent overrevving but I couldn't tell if your car had one. They became notoriously unreliable and many were replaced with the conventional version. Whichever, it is worth removing and cleaning - rubbing firmly on a tyre is a good way. You could also give the rotor a wiggle to ensure that the advance/retard mechanism is not seized and that the springs are working. It is worth checking that the coil is correct as I seem to recall that this car had a ballasted system. Then it's time for the carburettors - did they come with the 2200 engine or are they off the 2000? If the latter do they have the correct jets and needles? It rather sounds as if they are very much out of tune and not balanced with each other. It's true that a properly set up 2200TC will go rather well.😮

Another good one keep them coming 👍.
Are there any imp events going on in the midlands area this year ?
Once that rover is set up properly and a few miles under its vwlt it will be so good .
You could take it to pride of longbridge.

The Imp Club National is in Cheshire this year. Other than that, I don't think there are any Imp specific events but I'm sure the cars will be out at shows.
