Saw the video bought the parts and did the job myself saved about 200 bucks thank you 1A Auto.
Great video and I appreciate you posting. I just did my front pads and rotors on my 2010 Impala LT. Here are the few things that I discovered:
The 15mm bolts are really tight. I needed a breaker bar to get them turning also. Any viewers that think they can get this going with just a ratchet will need to be really strong.
When it came to remove the rotor, there was a small torx (I believe, it was star type) bolt that was screwed into the rotor to keep it in place. I just wanted people to be aware before they start taking it all apart and then can't remove the bolt.
Great video and thanks!
I’ve been pounding on the stupid rotor After watching every damn video for the impala not a single one of these worthless videos show that torque screw… Thank you so much for your comment that’s a pretty big major huge issue I wish I had known that I wondered what that was for but none of the videos showed it…
I too am Actually replacing the front bearings On my 2010 impala LT… Your comment is literally the most valuable thing I have found in this entire process thank you LOL
As always, very detailed and helpful. One note - some rotors (mine) have a single torx bolt holding the rotor on. Not a big deal once I noticed it. Thank you !
Thanks Scotty! After chasing and changing numerous things (EGR, O2 SENSORS, MAP, MAF, diagnostic tests) I watched this video and I didn't have an old speedometer cable to clean out the plugged intake manifold EGR hole. I went to the hardware store and bought several diameters of small braided cables (about 2 ft. Each). Attached this to my drill. Ran it in a counter clockwise direction- so as not to untwist the cables and maybe break pieces off from the splaying wire. Slow speed is the trick. Start with the small diameter and work up to the larger size that fits the hole. Thanks to you Scotty I fixed this myself, and the 1996 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 V6 runs great again!!! Very big help. Thanks I hope that this comment will help someone else out.
@mark kutsch You may want to take a look the ABS wires on the front (if it has them) to see if something has come loose. Also check the fuses and the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Hope this helps you out.
thanks guys another video another repair done with my own wrenches. I've used the window regulator video. the brakes and rotor, I could be wrong but I've also used the Cv axle video. I always look for the A1 AUTO videos only ones who have never let me down. much props guys and many thanks.
also used the rear disc brake video yesterday.
ALL YOU GUYS ARE GREAT IT ALLWAYS HELPS I AM A CAR NUT AND IT IS FUN DO WATCH YOU AT WORK
+farkas anton Thanks for watching. We're glad you liked it. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Great vid, got the job done. The 13mm bolts where on target just like you said. Had hell putting the calipers back on though. She had her car for 2yrs and I was the first to do the job. Rotor was messed up had a question about it but changed the pads anyway. Thanks again !!
Cory M You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
This video is great thanks for posting! Is the torque wrench necessary?
On my 2012 Impala there is a hex bolt holding the rotor on. I have done the lug nut thing to hold on rotors on with older vehicles. Just Saying. Excellent Video.
I am going to do this AGAIN when my wife gets home. I never turn rotors. I replace them. This last time was the first time in my 55 years that the warped rotors lasted 3 1/2 years. I live in the hills of Wv., and I use the transmission all the time to slow the vehicle. And warp always happens @ the end of a year. No matter what vehicle I have ever owned. Until I used Bendix ceramic. The brakes truly absorb the heat.
+John Wilde Thank you for your positive feedback! We are happy we could help.
Really really really a great and good and
clean and clear job, Thank you so much.
+Nouh Shishani Thanks for the feedback!
Hi, great video. Would you all happen to know what the torque specs would be on an 2007 Chevy Impala (flex fuel model) for those same bolts shown here being torqued? Is it the same shown here or different. Thanks again for the helpful tool. I am doing my own brakes myself.
A1 Video bro! Thanks Doing this, this weekend!
Thank you for watching! Glad to be of help. Let us know how the repair turns out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I have a question! I'm doing my first brake job and after taking off the brakes I didn't look to see if the clips were facing the top or the bottom. The clips that are on the brakes, should they be at the top or the bottom when you put the breaks on?
Great video trying to help my brother through his brake job remotely. I approve of all the steps done here.
One thing I do is break the lugs loose (like 1/4 to half turn) with the car on the ground. Then I lift it and remove the lugs/tire. Same in reverse. Tighten lugs by hand in air. Drop the car on the ground, then torque the lugs. Other than that, exactly what I do.
+Randy Johnson Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto okay the metal tabs that come on the brake pad that little silver metal tab what side does that go on does that go on the inside closer to the Piston or does it go on the outside away from it
What size torx?
Great video and explanation. One question and I hope I didn't miss it in the comments. How do you get the ABS light to go of after you have finished?????
I love the 1A Auto videos
Thanks for watching Matt!
@@1AAuto Even though this is a very straight-forward procedure, I always watch a video and read the manual beforehand. I watched your video, did what it said, and now the customer who had pulsating brakes and was afraid to go to a wedding out of town, now has super smooth and reliable brakes. Thanks!
is it necessary to replace the manufacturer torque screws that secure the rotor in place or is the car safe to drive with it?
would you guys or anyone recommend putting some of that same grease on the back of the pad i seen it helps with vibration noise when the pad and rotors are braking into each other
On my 06 Impala, the caliper bolts are square.
How do I remove them?
Awesome video. Thanks a lot
fantastic video
Thank you for watching! Glad to be of help. Let us know how the repair turns out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
are you supposed to loosen the cover on the brake fluid reservoir before pushing the brake cylinders in ??? I always have, is it necessary ?
My rotors have a torx screw is it necessary to put that back on or can I install without it??? Please someone help
I didn't see any servicing of the slide pins, are you not supposed to clean and grease them?
It's never a bad idea to check the action on the slide pins. If they feel still, definitely remove then and try to clean them up as best you can before greasing and reinstalling. Good tip! Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Is there a difference in the torque from 2006 to 2012? Other videos say the caliper bracket bolts are 133 ft. lbs.
No problems with the master cylinder or anything like that after pushing the piston back without cracking a bleeder? Or does it not matter?
You may need to replace the brake rotors, they may be warped. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
what size c clamp was that ?
You forgot to reattach the torx-30 screw for the rotors
I put front brakes on my 2009 chevy impala ls. now the traction control light has been coming on. My fault? or something else?
Are you sure the torque specs that you stated are the GM specs? The caliper bracket bolts are usually around 96 lbs ft of torque or tighter and 30 lbs ft of torque for the caliper bolts seem loose.
Thanks and God bless you!
Is this like a complete change like the rotors were changed?
Can i take all four brakes and rotors off at the same time? Or do i have to do the front first then back?
+Dejah Gordon You can remove them all and them perform the repair. We carry high quality brake rotor and repair kits on our website 1aauto.com
What about the caliper slide pins? Shouldn't those be removed and greased? To insure even pad wear.?
Awesome.. Do you have video on how to adjust the e-break?
can I remove the heat shield behind my rotor ? I replaced rotor and pads its scraping ...
+uncle maff Thank you for checking us out. This is possible, but not recommended. 1aauto.com
Doesn't new caliper slides come with the brake pads purchase?
You never mentioned either opening the bleeder or removing the master cylinder cap. You can't depress the piston without having someplace for the brake fluid to go.
You wouldn't believe how many people actually dont do this.. & when I mention it I'm told "you're a woman I know what I'm doing", finally someone else said it!!
If the brake pads fit too snugly and won't slide easily, is it improper to grind the tabs down abit so ithey will slide easily? also - I was told to use only synthetic grease on the slider pins else the rubber tabs on the ends of the slider bolts will swell. Any thoughts?
You can get caliper pin lube at your local auto parts store, this will allow the pins to slide freely in the rubber boot. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Are the back brake pads the same as well
The process may be a little different on your application. We will keep this vehicle in mind for future videos.
1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Do you happen to know the torx size for the rotor screw?
+Gilbert Ivy Thank you for checking us out. At this time we do not have a size for the torx screw, but if you view an online dealership parts website you should be able to obtain this information. 1aauto.com
It was a T-30 on my 2010 Impala.
You don't have to bleed the brakes?
You shouldn't have to unless the the brakes become soft after you perform the repair. Usually it's not necessary. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Do i not bleed the brakes?
is th ss model any diffrent ?
+Jonathan Sensor It should be the same procedure. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
Front Brake caliper bracket torque specs are 130 ft pounds.
Why no use of tread locker for the caliper bolts, is it not needed?
+NYG LT56 Thank you for checking us out. In this specific model, thread locker was not required but you will want to torque it to the proper specifications. 1aauto.com
Where can I buy a good torque wrench?
+Aazib Haider You may be able to find one at Lowes. If any or our viewers needs to replace their brake pads and rotors we carry the one shown in this video on our website goo.gl/hnertC
You should properly torque all of the bolts down. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
How do you know if you torqued the bolts properly?
@@KASH816 use a torque wrench. He gives the proper foot pounds to do so in the video.
It’s never as easy as it looks
Why wouldn't you just install brand new brake pad slides? They're cheap. Or you can buy Wagner brake pads online for $40 with free shipping and they come with new hardware.
