The verbal routine Up up up, Always gets my most reluctant and even non verbal kiddos to engage, laugh, take turns and even begin to use intentional communication! So simple and so effective! ❤️
So true! YESSS. Verbal routines are my favorite because the kids latch onto them and it is so fun to see them understanding and using intentional communication! Thanks for your comment!
I love the limiting screen time I went from 8hours to 5, 3, and finally 15 min of screen time and it’s very hard! But pays if he’s more aware of his surroundings better attention and eye contact. Thanks so much!
Oh I didn't know kids' appointments take so long! In our area, it's always less than 30 min. I admire what you prepared. You are such a good planner. Thanks for your ideas! I guess I could use them while going on a long train ride with my toddler.
I often use paper and crayons (or pens in a pinch) when we are waiting. We actually brought some to a museum today as a tool for homeschool. However, it came in handy when there was another large elementary school group just ahead of us and I wanted to stay back for an extra thirty minutes so the class could pass ahead of us and it wouldn't be so loud and chaotic with my kids. Even though my kids were anxious to move ahead I redirected them by having them draw pictures of the different rocks we saw. We use this tactic in church as well. While we try not to bring toys and entertainment to church (because we want the kids to focus on the messages) we always bring paper and pens. After about half of our meeting we let them draw or write if they start to fidget and have a hard time. I even keep a small notepad and a pen in my diaper bag at all times which initially was meant for me to write down important information but has turned into something to occupy my kids in tough situations. I love all the suggestions you've shared and it's given me some tools to put in my back pocket. I wish I would've thought of these a couple weeks ago when we spent five hours driving and sitting at the doctor's office. Next time...I'll be prepared!
I love these tips! Thank you! We like bringing a boogie board (drawing tablet that erases with a button push) and a leapfrog computer/tablet sometimes to the doctor. The best thing for us has always been snacks, but I definitely plan to try some of these tips next time.
My daughter dreads orthopedist visit. She howls when the doc touches her legs for checkup. She is 15month old. Can you share what I can do to keep the visit normal? Thank you so much

Wow it can be memorable that is a helpful frame for me. I like the describing pic, cars, matching, pre talk and learn about it👏🏼

We always bring the Water wow Book - it is a book to draw with water, so no mess 😁 my son is also 3y old and he loves this book.
Oh fun!! That sounds like an awesome thing to bring! Is it a Melissa and Doug book?
