    • How To READ To Toddler...
If you've ever found yourself in a doctor's waiting room with a toddler then you know that the minutes seem like hours. It is helpful to mentally prepare your child for what to expect. Treat doctors visits like an adventure instead of something scary to fear.
I found a video on youtube that talked about like what to expect at the allergist.
It was really helpful to prepare him for what he was going to be seeing what he might be feeling what he might be experiencing.
We used visual timer while we were there.
    -hid ball
    -obstacle course
    -peekaboo achoo games
    -tea party
-Guessing game in our hands-describe it
Remember to pack snacks and something for YOU to eat, also!
He was supposed to lay on his stomach for 20 minutes because they like have a liquid on their back that they prick into and you can't sit up otherwise the liquid will run down and the test won't be valid. That was the hardest part for him and it is itchy so you have to keep them from itching. THIS is when I pulled out my phone to watch a video. I reserved the video for the part I knew would be the hardest for him. Watched memory videos of pictures and videos of our family and pets on our phone.
Nurse said that he did the best out of any 3 year old she’s ever worked with…and she’s been working there 28 years!
Shout out to my mama who was there the whole time with us to help out and my dad who watched our 1.5 year old at home. Couldn’t have done it without you both!
We made some great memories at the allergist and it was a pleasant experience because he was prepared and knew what to expect. I asked him what his favorite part was and he liked watching the memory videos and when she wrote on his back with the marker. The next morning, he was pretending to be the allergist and nurse and was giving our 1.5 year old an allergy test on his back with some toys.
Hey! I’m Adrienne, Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist from LearnWithAdrienne.com and you want to help your child:
    ☀️communicate clearly
    ☀️listen well
    ☀️gain life skills
In my UA-cam videos, I teach a variety of strategies to help children learn to talk, but in my online class for children, I teach much more in-depth, revealing the actual step-by-step system I use with my own speech therapy clients to get them from saying only a handful of words to talking in sentences and having conversations. My online class is structured with checklists and printouts where you can track your child's progress.
So zooming out, my UA-cam videos teach the “what” and my online class teaches the “how.” The goal of the online class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your daily life with your child and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc.
Here is more info about the class so you can see if it would be a good fit for what you are looking for with your child.

The verbal routine Up up up, Always gets my most reluctant and even non verbal kiddos to engage, laugh, take turns and even begin to use intentional communication! So simple and so effective! ❤️

So true! YESSS. Verbal routines are my favorite because the kids latch onto them and it is so fun to see them understanding and using intentional communication! Thanks for your comment!

I often use paper and crayons (or pens in a pinch) when we are waiting. We actually brought some to a museum today as a tool for homeschool. However, it came in handy when there was another large elementary school group just ahead of us and I wanted to stay back for an extra thirty minutes so the class could pass ahead of us and it wouldn't be so loud and chaotic with my kids. Even though my kids were anxious to move ahead I redirected them by having them draw pictures of the different rocks we saw. We use this tactic in church as well. While we try not to bring toys and entertainment to church (because we want the kids to focus on the messages) we always bring paper and pens. After about half of our meeting we let them draw or write if they start to fidget and have a hard time. I even keep a small notepad and a pen in my diaper bag at all times which initially was meant for me to write down important information but has turned into something to occupy my kids in tough situations. I love all the suggestions you've shared and it's given me some tools to put in my back pocket. I wish I would've thought of these a couple weeks ago when we spent five hours driving and sitting at the doctor's office. Next time...I'll be prepared!

Oh I didn't know kids' appointments take so long! In our area, it's always less than 30 min. I admire what you prepared. You are such a good planner. Thanks for your ideas! I guess I could use them while going on a long train ride with my toddler.

I love the limiting screen time I went from 8hours to 5, 3, and finally 15 min of screen time and it’s very hard! But pays if he’s more aware of his surroundings better attention and eye contact. Thanks so much!

I love these tips! Thank you! We like bringing a boogie board (drawing tablet that erases with a button push) and a leapfrog computer/tablet sometimes to the doctor. The best thing for us has always been snacks, but I definitely plan to try some of these tips next time.

My daughter dreads orthopedist visit. She howls when the doc touches her legs for checkup. She is 15month old. Can you share what I can do to keep the visit normal? Thank you so much
