    This is helpful MKD, I just bought a V2 Nazgûl and I cannot get a decent signal behind a bush 80m away, it has vista a nebula camera and has the latest f/w and the ham file on it. Video signal is dreadful, thought about adding a longer antenna to the quad. Could swap to 03 but think I'm better just buying a new quad a flogging this one, I bought it second hand for not much

    We've done alot of testing in concrete between V2 and G2 goggles, with stock, and with all TrueRC, and the V2 always hold signal a little longer. V2 also have lower latency at 120fps instead of 100. The v2 also run 6S, so you can use any old flight pack.

    • @kddrones
      @kddrones  Рік тому

      Yes, the vista has a lower output power when on O3 firmware, so it won't go quite as far, all else being the same, but from my tests it's very close. As for latency I can't tell. For power I'm using the speedybee BEC so I can still use any 6s pack I have

    interesting timing for this video, I had an unexpected micro failsafe with my mini lifter and now it makes sense because I had way more range with my O3 air unit and goggles 2

    • @kddrones
      @kddrones  Рік тому

      Ah yeah the O3 has great range because it can make so much better use out of low bitrate because of the h.265 compression. The first time I flew O3 when it came out I went way further than usual as one of my spots and it cut out because I wasn't used to being able to fly with such low bitrate, I can see the same thing happening with Rx if you're not careful

    I am sticking with my v2 for multiple reasons. main is I hate the blurring in the corners from the small .5" screens. next I like my analog in to be able to fly my cheap tinywhoops and micros. last would be antenna choices. v2 can get better range with better antennas.

    Iflight crystals are not a good patch, they are a super low profile, portable patch. TrueRC antennas will always kill the iFlight patch, as youxll have proper satellite dishes on your head, vs the iFlight is literally a tiny foil stamp.
    If you'd tested TrueRC on both goggles, you would find the V2's out ranged G2's again, as you did with stock antennas

    • @kddrones
      @kddrones  Рік тому +1

      I would say the crystals are pretty good. They give a decent improvement over stock antennas with the added benefit of not having to take them off. There's absolutely no way I'm putting on and taking off the trueRC on the V2 every time I get them out of my bag, that's just completely impractical for my work. That's why I'm testing each setup how I would actually use it.
      You are right though the trueRC for V2 are a bit better but it's not that big a difference in my experience and since they're too big it's an easy decision. The ones for G2 however are really small so they don't need to be taken off

    • @Fly_High_FPV
      @Fly_High_FPV Рік тому +1

      @kddrones to me, the difference is being able to dive into a building on TrueRC, and completely blacking out on iFlight antennas...it's higher stakes in the concrete, but that's where the differences keep you in the air. That said, i pack my v2's away with X-2airs and never take em off 👍 I appreciate your testing , done a bunch myself too, and still recommending V2 goggles for most FPV pilots, and Integras if you fly alot of plastic drones

    • @Fly_High_FPV
      @Fly_High_FPV Рік тому +2

      @kddrones the crystals are def higher gain than the stock antennas, because of the directionality, but that doesnt make them good quality antennas. IFlight's fairly low gain and narrow field is a big dissapointment coming from VAS and TrueRC who both utilize PepperBoxes in their patch antennas. Instead of a tiny foil stamp (iFlight) you get multiple wave forms in a satellite dish (TrueRC) The result is the X2-Airs give you extremely high gain in a 60 degree cone, but if you fall out of that cone you still have 120 degree cone at medium-high gain to fall back on, before dropping to omnis. Tripple Feed tends to be the highest gain, but 30degree field, means you have to point the goggles, like a sniper rifle, with the steavie wonder head tracking, or rely on the omnis when you fall out of center. Portability matters, but it's my least concern when i'm in the air 👍

    • @kddrones
      @kddrones  Рік тому +1

      Fair enough, if they work well for you that's great! For me most of the flying I do is commercial and being portable and convenient is a major priority, and I haven't personally seen much better results than with the crystal patches. Very good point! These were the ones I tested because they are what I would personally use. The trueRC for V2 are way too big so I wouldn't use them, and they seem to have similar performance anyway. The trueRC at the time were the only good opinion so I chose them

      Yeah of course, DM me on Instagram or email me and I'll send the files. One thing to note is the G2 records the DVR at 1080p 25 Mb/s but the V2 records DVR at 720p 40 Mb/s so the DVR in G2 is comparatively worse than what you actually see vs V2 Goggles. This is probably because for O3 with H.265 25 Mb/s will give about the same quality as the previous H.264 at 40 Mb/s, however this disadvantages the vista DVR on G2 because it still has to use H.264, only O3 can use H.265.

    At first, I thought the V2's were on the right, and I was super impressed with how the bit rate was so much higher on the Goggles 2...then I listened to your conclusion and saw that the V2's were actually on the left! DUH! LOL 🤷‍♂🤦‍♂That's where I was shocked the bit rate was nearly double on the older V2 goggles for the tougher parts of the flight! Kinda amazing, as I own those, but never wanted to buy the overpriced Goggles 2 (mostly because of POOR FIT and no analog option!) and can't stand the rear battery pack for the Integra. What does one do when that battery pack fails? Buy a new set of goggles? Stupid idea to have your goggles life hinging on a battery packs life! You know that pack is gonna eventually die, right?!!!
    Can you imagine how far a pilot would have flown with the HDZero goggles even using their 1000 mw VTX?! Haahaa! They wouldn't have got far, that for sure! A great flight path with nice low to ground flying! That system is truly a one trick pony - Racing - But, I'll give them credit, they are the very best at flying in an open field looping around gates! Racers rejoice! :)
    💯Really impressive test! One of the very best I've ever seen. Surprising results. I'd love to see a PART 2, with you doing the exact same flight plan, but with the DJI 03 in each quad. I'm super interested, and I'm sure others would be too, to see if the 03 improves the results and the Googles 2 turn the table on the V2 goggles.
    One side note: DJI - PULL YOUR HEAD out of yer A$$, and start naming products completely unique names and stop making them so damn close to other products you sell! Goggles V2 and Goggles 2 - SERIOUSLY?!!! 🤬 🤣

      I will definitely do the same tests again with O3 on both goggles I'm also interested to see the results.

      Oh man! I definitely didn't delete it, I was replying and now it's gone. I've still got it in my email notification though so here's what you said:
      "it's as clear as day. The latency of 03 on G2 is horrendous. The lowest latency is in 4K/100 fps setting which means if you are using 03 as the action cam...that's the format of your video. Any other video setting introduces even higher latency. However on the V2 the latency is lower on all frame rates due to reduced resolution (820p) which is fantastic enough! Also not the latency of vistas is higher on G2 compared to V2. These are facts not just based on scientific data (see Mad Tech videos and charts) but also on real world experience by myself and others."
      For me I don't notice the latency, it's completely fine but I get some people are more sensitive to it. The smaller size and lower weight, better screens and interface and ease of use with the G2 make them better for me. I don't use O3 to record so I can have it in the lowest latency setting and I can't notice the difference between that and my Vista's on V2 goggles, just a much better image. I definitely understand your point though and for many that's a deal-breaker. I just wanted to show a proper test of the vista across both goggles
      I think if I was getting paid off by DJI then I would have got the G2 a little bit sooner too 😅

    Coming from someone that builds antennas for HAM radios, the stock and aftermarket antennas they for these headsets are gutter trash.

      @@kddrones It boils down to mathematics and yes, 1000x the range with the only setback being battery life and have a PONR. It would require establish coms between to known points and sending the drone along that path of wavelengths. I guess you'd have to be a HAM radio operator to understand this.
      If you had a powerful enough drone, you could put a Starlink mini, purchase a maritime package from Elon Musk and theoretically fly around the world.

      @@kddrones There is no real range limit. With upgrades, you can increase distance to well beyond what your battery will last using any drone on the market by a long shot. Mind you, it requires upgrades and you need to know what you are doing with antennas. Most people don't know this, but you're supposed to point your antenna in the direction of the drone. This is how wavelengths work.

When I'm flying commercially, I'm often inside buildings. I can get through a certain thickness of concrete/steel etc before I lose signal. What exact antennas can I use to get unlimited range in that situation? You're just talking generally about upgrades but you're not providing any actual solutions.
