Fantastic video! I received the goggles 2 today and did almost the same testing with spectrum analyser! I wish i had seen this video earlier haha
PERFECT!!! It´s all i have to know, Thanks a lot!
What a great take, it did not appear you edit this at all. ♥😎🙌 Great coverage.
A few things not mentioned, that would be interested in knowing more on in a future discussion.
1. the MSP-OSD protocol used by O3 is a subset of the MSP-OSD, that only works with BetaFlight, displaying a subset of MSP-OSD elements. ArduPilot and INAV are not currently compatible, and would need support for using alternative fonts/icon-sprites vs. what Betaflight uses.
2. Guessing why support is either/or for older DJI Goggles (v1 + v2) is because only one video codec (h.264/h.265) is supported at a time on both Goggles and the Air units. Likely memory limitations, or just too integrated into the firmware.
3. RemoteID. It appears when upgraded to the latest firmware, a pilot will need to connect to their phone to provide location data (not sure if only for US, or other countries) For US, it appears RemoteID will be activated for Avata and other drones in late Dec. Not clear if this would impact O3, or Goggle2 in any way.
This DJI firmware seems to create more confusion, than it solves issues for now. Hopefully DJI offers more comprehensive MSP-OSD support. The either/or for codec/firmware support is understandable. Would be nice if DJI was more transparent with the FPV community (more so the developers of open source flight controller software, not necessary the wider pilot community), as none of the OS-FC teams received a test O3 hardware, or a heads up even on the day of release.
What a freaking mess DJI just did! 😬
Thanks, Ian!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great work Ian!!! I can see why your work bench is in such a state. Solves my issues for now. Keep my V1 Goggles and controller and add the Goggles 2 with the V2 Controller. I am not going to get the Avata. My DIY craft work just fine. Have a great day mate!
Thanks for this info Ian. Very interesting
Smashed it!! Great Work🥳
Awesome video with so much great info
Thanks a lot for the valuable Information! Switched one of my vistas to the new Firmware and so far it looks good on the Goggles 2. Two small things I have spotted so far. Autorecord when arming does not seem to work and it does not go to 50mbps, it was around 46mbps. Could not test outside due to the weather but I am impressed so far. Happy I don't have the remote id thingy on the Avata as I am not in the US.
Hi Ian!
And what happened with compatibily with DJI FPV? :(
Thanks for that Ian, I only have the v2 Goggles so I'm good for now, but I can see why DJI have done this. It's a shame if you have both and want to use the old head set for a spectator. This is where I think DJI should have made it compatible.
Thanks for clarifying the inav/ardupilot info saved me some money. Maybe walksnail will end up being the one to go with.
Yup, I'm thinking HDZ Goggles + WS rx atm.
Thanks for all the info and testing it’s very useful for all of us interested. Do you know if it’s possible to turn off DJI’s information in the osd to keep only betaflight’s?
Amazing job! thanks for usefull informations. Can you tell next time something about compability with Livefeed from Goggles? (SC, RC-Pro, Digiview..) It's very important funktion for a lot of proffesional pilots... thanks a lot!
Thanks Ian 😁👍
thanks my friend🤟
Happy new year 🎆 and dji Christmas gift
Thanks!
Hey dude, I looked through all your videos. but I didn't see your further testing? Is that video coming? Great job
Does this mean the goggles 2 can be used with the DJI FPV now?
Very good video as usual but do you have to give the old air units an armed signal to give you full power out? When using a FC that is not a problem but I am wondering about a flying wing with no FC. We no longer have temp control on/off option as in the old firmware. Thanks
Great stuff!
Do you think this will be an issue with a naked vista? I normally set it to a max power output of 400mw but if it’s in O3 protocol the power can’t be controlled.
Have you seen any documentation describing the channel spacing and bandwidth usage for the O3? I'm wondering about channel conflicts when flying with a mixture of Vista and O3 pilots in the air simultaneously. Do you know if the O3 channel numbers map to identical frequency and bandwidth as Vista channel numbers?
I paired the G2 with vista but i get terrible penetration and range. Even when trying sbang in open air i get random lags. Like I'm constantly on 25mw although i have used the ham file. It's almost like when i had the v2 and a vista with broken antenna. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Ian! 🙏🏼
Is the dji fpv rc 2 the one you can use on both dji fpv drones can you use that with the older air unit or caddx vista like you can on the 03 airunit
Hello mate, I'm just getting into this fpv and am also in the UK. Just setting my nazgul up with the new dji goggles 2. The goggles firmware is .04 and the 03 air unit is .02. Do they have to match as there isn't a .04 for the air unit????do I just update the goggles to the latest version. 04 and the air unit on the .02 firmware please???? Sorry for asking and thank you in advance
love your channel. I've watched this one several times and I'm still confused. When you update the firmware on the original air unit and goggles 2, you said the frequencies act the same as with the air unit 03. Does that mean the old air unit runs both 2.4 and 4.8 mhz? Does this mean I'll get more range using the Goggles 2 and controller 2 and my original air units? I'm trying to decide if dumping my original goggles and black controller 1 in order to get more range. My range on the old system has been too limited.
I would like to see what the real-world penetration is like on the vista in 03 mode. Better or worse?
Hi! I have a Caddx Vista air unit binded with the DJI Goggles V2. With the firmware my caddx vista, can i now use DJI RC2? Or it’s only doable with the DJI Goggles 2?
Is there a way to connect the 03 airunits to a external screen by now? Ik tried with the fly app, but device shows up not supported
So, I have the Fpv Goggles V2 and just ordered an O3. To use them with the new air unit and also with a couple of vistas what do i have to do?
I’m curious, if you have say 3 vista drones, do you need to rebind each time you use a different drone?
it would be interesting to know if channel setup works okay with v2 protocol and 03 protocol quads in same field. if audience mode does not work can it see older vista units in v2 mode and know not to go on that channel?
Did you try the video out? I wasnt able to get it working with vistas. I tried it with a dji rc-pro as well and still nothing
Do I have to rebind the Caddx Vista to the remote2 and
/ or goggles Integra if I switch back from O3 ?
Hello Mad Tech, if I would have a DJI Goggles V2, 1 Quad with DJI FPV air unit and 1 Quad with DJI O3, which kind of firmware do You recommend? (If i would go long range to?) thanks
so i take it the fpv remote(from the fpv combo kit) isnt gonna work with the goggles v2 on lets say a vista drone?
Surely they can update the black remote to run 03 protocol as well ? The grey gamepad remote is crap in comparison
Please tell me: in new firmware have option “temp control: off”????
It’s very important on long range flying.
Ive seen the avata for sale with the V2s. What firmware are those running? The old...or new protocol? Doesnt the avata have an o3?
hey mate, another great video.. do you think there is any hope that the old OG DJI balck transmitter will ever work with the G2's and AU03??
No
Hello. I have "integra" and "o3". If I buy 1 more drone with "vista" will I have to tether them each time?
do the goggles 2 work with DJI Runcam Link Wasp nano? I know you said they work with the Runcam Link but I'm not sure if that includes Wasp nano as well?
Does this firmware update still allow WTFOS? If not, how do you use with INAV / Ardupilot for OSD?
off topic question: DJI Mini 3 Pro, does the the FCC hack DJI air 2 patch still work with the latest firmware update?
Do I need the Ham File on my Goggles 2 if I live and activated my Goggles 2 in the USA? Thanks!
with the dli controller 2 when i bind to my 03 units (i have 2) i can switch between the two 03 units and controller keeps it bind but if i switch to the avata the controller loses it bind. so after i re bind it with the avata if i switch back to the 03 units they lose the bind what the f any advice?
I've tried everything and can't get OSD on my googles 2 with the cadex vista since the latest firmware. I was able to get it working on one of my 3" but the next day when I booted it up it no longer had the ODS I am so frustrated
Hopefully they will expand compatibility up and down. There's no reason why they can't and it will only make them more money in the end. I understand they are different systems and it might take time to get them both to work. I've got v1s so I'm kind of left out for now.
Hi ian and everybody. Good day to you all.
i have my Goggles 2 Paired to Old Air Unit. and sometimes the video feed got stuttered unbearably even though the Bitrate is over 40Mbps.
Cant confirm if this occurs on O3 air unit as well, since i have no o3 air unit Atm. is it just my Gogs faulty?
Camera: Caddx Polar
VTX : old full size Air Unit
Goggles 2 :
O3 have same range on V2 as it does on new goggles 2? Does vista have more range on Goggles 2 or less? I notice O3 on Goggles 2 seems to have better range than vistas
How do i see MSP-OSD with the new firmware? Do I need to install WTFOS?
What software program is used to do all of this? Thanks
I really have an headache to understand all the combinations 😂😂 , but : old air units with new firmware = O3 behaviour , I was thinking if that is equal to transmit h265 on the old air units ? Or is it just “cosmetic”
I always been flabbergasted how you have all these update numbers in you head, how you do that?, or do you have a writing somewhere next to your camera, great man 🙂
That was off my head, I’m somewhat rain man 😂
@@MadRC 😂
Is there a possibility when the goggles V2 are rooted that they will get support through the root for the Vistas even when they are updated for backward compatibility with the goggles 2?
Will the goggles 2 become Compatible with the dji fpv drone
What if I already rooted my Vista? Can I use it with Googles 2?
great video. i have questions hope you will notice 😀
1. custom osd in goggles 2 still working with air unit? or only the betaflight osd?
2. can goggles2 do recording when using with the air unit?
also wondering question 1.
On question 2:
YES.
Will like to sell my v2 but I need them for analog tinywhoop. So I could do firmware update. Would be great if I could find a way to fly analog whoop with google 2 and sell all my v2 and vista
Do we get better penetration with this new protocol on the old air units/vista?
Penetration..
@@XtianApi shit man my bad 😞
How is it looking, I'd i update my vistas and goggles v2 can i then use the official OSD (NOT THE WTFOS WAY)?? SO DOES IT ACTIVATE the canvas mode?? And what is the difference after the update that i can't choose power output anymore? Is it then permanent on 1200mw or permanent on 25mw or in-between?? It's all so confusing to me...want to update my v2 to use it wut one or two or quads but still want to use all my old vistas (cool would be if the dji osd also works, without wtfos)
Okay i saw you told in the end of the video at least that the output is completely different. But i don't understand how is it looking with the rest of my questions in the goggle V2
Wishing I could use controller 2 with the old air unit and Vista. But glad they included the backwards compatibility they did
You can now!
How?
Anyone have experience of switching from crossfire, to using DJI controller 2. would be nice to use once controller with all my drones inc avata
Can you use goggles v2?
Great video as always! Thank you!
Anyone knows how well the DJI FPV Remote 2 works with the Goggles 2 in a Caddx Vista / Air Unit setup? Does it have at least the same range?
Works perfect for me! :) G2 R2 and Air unit
@@MariusIhlar Awesome! Thank you 😎😎👍👍
Hi…thank you for this.
Can the 03 camera be used with the original AU, or Vista? The 03 camera can be purchased separately for $109.00.
Do the Goggles 2 record the original AU, or Vista.? If so, is the recording at 1080p?
Please reply
No the O3 camera is only working on the O3 AU. As for recording yes the G2 records the AU and vista and it’s 1080p local file
From what you observed with your spectrum analyzer it follows that the old AU updated to the new firmware is now using H265 instead of H264. Is this correct? In other words, the only difference between O3 and old AU is the camera, fps(?) and the ability to record in 4K?
That’s not possible to know from the carrier.
Also, what about the old AU video feed resolution? Is it still 720 max or 1080 max?
That is what I am wondering and nobody is addressing it. Also do I have better penetration and range with the AU and Google 2 or is the performance better with the old goggles.
I flew a few packs with Vista/Nebula Pro on the new firmware and Goggles 2 today. Now I have noticed that the recorded DVR on the goggles SD card is 1080p. Does this...mean what I think?
No not really it’s just the upscaled output, it needs to upscale for the G2 displays.
can I get a trade in for my V1s then....
What about the compability with the cadx vistas ? are those also covered by the update ?
💀💀💀
Does it increase latency from the vista to the goggle 2 vs vista with the v2?
This is what I want to know! Does the vista drop from 120fps to 100fps in order to match the goggles2? or does it drop to 60fps?
Hi, already own Caddx air unit and Dji Controller V1 and I would like to buy Dji Goggles 2 but I'm not sure about compatibility
If I understand correctly after the update they will be compatible with each other (Dji Controller V1 (black color) Caddx air unit and Dji Goggles 2).
Quite right?
Same question. Goggles 2 + Air Unit v1 + Remote Controller v1. This is work?
can i use the V2 goggles with both systems i know you said yes, but what firmware should i not go past?
You can update the V2 to latest for that it’s not an issue.
so when you call dji support number it seems like they have no idea what's going on with the update and telling me that only the black remote and the goggles v2 are the only things compatible with the cadex vista/ old air units then when you ask them about the update they play dumb because it does not show up in there system..... smh
I assume that you can still record goggles 2 video if you're using the air unit?
Yes.
Hello, just purchased goggles 2, in my menu, i cannot switch aircrafts - It shows Avata aircraft only option other than the dji 03 air unit and dji fpv air unit and that is it? Also, I have a DJI MAVIC PRO
Have you im updated the firmware via DJIs assistant for consumer drones on your PC? Also you can connect the DJI fly app to do this too. Update the FW and you will get more option.
@@MadRC Yes, thank you, i did everything. Finally got ahold of DJI and they said that the DJI GOGGLES 2 is not compatiable and no firmware to work with the DJI MAVIC PRO. Sent those GOOGLES 2 back and purchased the DJI GOGGLES RE (Supposed to be compatible).
Does this mean that the goggles 2 will work for the DJI FPV DRONE?
Sorry no.
@madstech i tried hooking up my Nazgul with a og air unit today but i can't get the controller to assign switches and the bars dont move when i move the throttle or switches, maybe im on the wrong firmware? I updated everything to the newest,i think thats wrong,i believe the controller and goggles need to be on specific firmware, not the newest, can you help if possible, maybe confirm what firmware i need to put goggles and controller on? Also the flight controller is on like betaflight 4.1 i believe,im new and don't like to update my firmware because i don't wanna mess anything up,can this also be a problem? goggles 2 and controller 2
What goggles ? v1,V2 or G2 ? Also what DJI remote, Large black FPV one or newer smaller Grey game pad style one. I have a video on this you probably should watch.
This video will explain the firmware mess ua-cam.com/video/r8xUIqTHoLE/v-deo.html
@@MadRC goggles 2 and controller 2
@@MadRC thank you, does it matter what version of betaflight you are on?
hi, i wanted to ask if the fcc file from o3 and avata works with vista on Gogles2
Is vista downgrading possible?
Big thanks.
I'm also wondering ig goggles2 fcc hack works with the old air unit
oh it was answered in the video at 09:00
There doesn’t seem to be a easy swap between the two 03 and vista with out having to hook back up to the computer
I have have to use butter every time I want to switch back to vista
I have DJI V2 goggles and I bought a new drone with DJI 03 when I change in my goggles to goto 03 it's a pain in the the ass to get them back any suggestions
What goggles are you using ?
DJI V2
After I changed them in my goggles it doesn’t give me the option to change them back with out doing the butter stuff again
Wow that's insane, I like the goggles v2
More than my goggles 2 because the eye adjustment is much better for me using the goggles v2
Keep playing with the adjustments! Took me 3 days to finally made google 2 better then v2! The secret was to fly and not look a the background screen and menu.
Im deciding to buy V2 or 2. My only concern is fogging.
I read that goggles 2 fog significaly. I fly in a mostly extremely hot area during the year. And in the winter I hike a lot, and tend to get hot and the temp difference is terrible for fogging. Unless the goggles have a good cooling inside.
How different is V2 from 2 in terms of inside fans?
I live in a very hot area as well, never had fogging issues with the goggles 2.
I've owned the Goggles 2 since the Avata was released and I've flown in several different weather conditions around the country and I've never seen fogging in mine. I believe this issue affects people differently or not at all based on their physiology.
@@thechillingdrone @murdersFPV good to know
If I buy a Vista right now, will I be able to root it? what firmware will I be forced to update when activating it?
It’s unknown.
Hi...thank you for this?
Is the backward compatibility worth it?
Do the Goggles 2 improve the Vista/Original Air Unit image quality?
If not, what's the point?
point is having to carry only one pair of goggles...
Want the cool mew bells and whistles? But the new goggles. Capitalism basically. Buy our new stuff!!! They support making money not the community.
@@xORLOCKx
I dunno.
They've pretty much revolutionized the hobby.
From my limited perspective, they've given us everything, but it costs.
Whether or not the new bells and whistles are worth it is up to us.
I just don't see backward compatibility as the path forward.
I updated one of my vistas earlier today, I find it worth it for the smaller/lighter goggles and the screens are truly better on the goggles 2 and I think they look crisper compared to my v2s.
@@xORLOCKx isn’t that the point is making money? How would you run a multibillion $ company? If your ignoring the fact Dji gave us and still is giving us the best in the hobby your obviously ignorant to how business works. This isn’t a charity. You want open source tinkertoys go with hdzero but for what that is your getting hosed with inferior tech along with a Dji price tag.
Anyone has any idea how to enable OSD on Goggles 2 + Vista? All running latest FW. Thanks!
It’s the same as O3 or any of the MSP-DP OSD systems.
It’s the same as O3 or any of the MSP-DP OSD systems.
@@MadRC many thanks!
DJI is the " GOAT "
does dji goggles v2 work with iflight 25? with dji 3
The Defender 25 with O3 yes it fully compatible.
Thanks and can I swop the Dji Fpv controller back and forth with Avata without binding issues?
As long as the 03 Air Unit still works with the Goggles V2 Im a happy camper.
Finally a reasonable comment. Didn’t realize there’s so many nit picky pilots…
Why do it this way? Why can't the old V1 goggles work post updates? They may allow roll backs now, but we all know that won't last long.
I went through the comments..... maybe I can make my question as easy as possible. I've tried to get my Goggles 2 working with my "build units" "vista's" Can someone lead me to troubleshooting this? Maybe what firmware is needed? It's 04-30-2023 I bought an Avata, the goggles 2 are nicer than the V2's I want my 50mbs (47 is fine as I'm seeing in comments lol) and to bind to my vista's and I'll sell them off to fund something else. But for traveling purposes.. having both v2's and goggles 2...... not ideal. The better eyeball and weight quality are the goggles 2. Can someone lead me to the actual breakdown video or thread of making your goggles 2 work with your existing vista's. It's lovely looking at videos of people who've already binded their vista's to their goggles 2 and doing comparisons , etc..... but how doooooo you do it, especially if you're having issues with the: 1. Update firmware: "What firmware do we need here?" And if I have to go back, is it gonna still work with my Avata? 2. Anyyyyyything to help me figure this out, please? I'm ok with the Vista's being bound to my goggles 2 and selling my v2's as they are super new.
1: Connects the vistas to Assistant 2 for FPV and install V01.02.0000. It will then bind.
All I want to do is use my dji fpv remote 2 with my goggles v2 and original air units and vistas. I got into fpv by buying the dji fpv drone and since I now I’m into building my own quads my dji fpv remote 2 has just been sitting there and me praying that one day it will be compatible. As I under stand I can’t use the remote 2 unless I switch to all O3 a or get goggles 2 and say bye to my vistas and goggles v2…smh I waited so long holding on to the idea that dji would make it compatible without a catch.
Your in one of those rare situations. If you can just pick up a cheap transmitter loaded with ELRS
It’s no catch. The reasons are more than likely hardware limitations
Not bye bye vista's.....right?
I have 7 built quads with 2 air units and 5 vistas, my goggles v2 are rooted with wtfos installed so I get the full betaflight osd now, I’m committed to goggles v2. I guess I’ll just sell a few of my rc cars and trucks that do not get used anymore since I discovered fpv to finance the goggles 2…my problem is that I have to have the latest and greatest and Xmass is here…I was ready to buy the O3 and goggles 2 back in July when hints were getting dropped for a upcoming release but life happens. If I put $1200 on the credit card now right before Xmass I’ll get tossed in the backyard and shot somewhere that will make me suffer, it’s like DJI loves to mess with my emotions…cruel to make a product release so close to Black Friday, then have most the kinks worked out for backwards compatibility before Xmass.
Are the Goggles 2 ever going to work with the Mini 3 Pro?
One can dream! it'd certainly entice me to upgrade both my FPV system and my mini!
When I bought my Mini 3 pro, it was only because the promo info said it had "FPV mode". That was a misrepresentation. The camera remaining stationary with the drone is NOT FPV mode.
@@bellylander Yeah I bought the FPV system first then when the mini 1 came out I bought that thinking that surely DJI would make them compatible... NOPE! Perhaps Goggles 3 & Mini 5 will be? 🤣
@@Imakilln you talking about goggles 2 v3 or goggle 3 😁
More like a cluster f in the sand. Hopefully DJI will do another firmware update to remedy some of these issues.
Not sure if you’re aware Ian, but I’ve figured out how to get around the issues with using DJI Assistant 2 (FPV) on newer Macs. You just need to install Assistant 2 (Enterprise) first, which installs the necessary drivers, then restart the computer and install the FPV version. It works perfectly after that
Wow thank you for that!! I eventually had to upgrade my goggles on a PC!! Yuck!!
@@Lucianrider I have both, but I’m away from home right now so I had to use my Mac. WTFOS was corrupting each time I installed it so I needed to refresh the air unit firmware to get it to work. I found the answer deep in a DJI forum somewhere!
Can the enterprise assistant be added afterwards or do I need to uninstall fpv and redo?
@@Ryanisunavailable not sure. The instructions said first though
Do you think they will fix the binding issue with the Goggles V2? It would really be cool if it keeps it's bind - then it is the only goggle you need (orig. Airunit/vista/etc, DJI FPV, Avata, O3 and even analog)
is there a FOGGING issue with the goggles 2
Not that I’ve seen. I’ve had mine for a few months with no issues.
@@trickay222 are you in the uk with our terrible weather? i live near ian and am interested in how they do in our climate
And remote ID forced upon the US if you do the Avata update today. DO NOT UPDATE YOUR AVATAS IN THE UNITED STATES RIGHT NOW!
I hear you can just roll the firmware back to the old version. Can you confirm that?
@@londenard DJI says in the News section of their website that new drones will ship with it pre-installed and current owners aren’t required to comply until September 2023 and the update is optional. Or something along those lines. I just read it a few minutes ago
@@SkeezyFPV Yea that's what I heard as well. I'm not sure if you can downgrade it later if you want... I'd imagine so but... To be honest, I'm not sure what the big deal is other than hooking up your phone. I had a mount for the FPV controller so I could use it to fly the DJI FPV around without the goggles if need be. To each their own, though.
Apparently, from several sources, you can back out of the update if you want. Probably until Sep and then it will be mandatory or your drone won't fly.
Cool it. Doesn't change a dam thing. Here... try it. Download the firmware then pretend you didn't and continue flying. Nothing changed. Lol
