    Most people go to PAB for 'basic' bricks. It's way cheaper than buying them piece by piece. AFOLs are not just using 1000 hearts pieces. They're building large creations which need many tiles and 1x bricks. This change is just to encourage people to not be in stores to do PAB, and instead only go if you're buying full priced sets.

    • @brickloverbrad
      @brickloverbrad  7 місяців тому +1

      I’m not sure about that one tbh. I agree that AFOLs aren’t using 1000 hearts, BUT AFOLs aren’t also just buying cups of 2x4s or large plates like my store had a ton of filler of.

  • @TheCrisses
    @TheCrisses 7 місяців тому +33

    As someone who has to travel an hour each way and is on,y coming for PAB, I am not coming more often, I want the larger selection, even “basic” bricks, to make it worth packing several cups with a variety. Why drive an hour for 1 cup? And I’m definitely not coming every week. So, I see this as disappointing.

    • @hanzocloud
      @hanzocloud 7 місяців тому

      Lol, if u were serious in accumulating pieces for Mocs you wouldn’t bother getting stuff from a physical pick a brick wall. You can get so much more from the online pick a brick selection!

    • @earthbricks
      @earthbricks 6 місяців тому

      Same here except I have to drive 3 hours. And I only ever go for the PAB wall. This is so sad if this version of the store continues.

      @@hanzocloudexcept the pick a brick wall is a better value, you just have to rely on luck.
      With their online part ordering, you pay more per piece, and have to wait for it to arrive.

    • @c.l4219
      @c.l4219 4 місяці тому

      @@tefnutofhoney2832yes, but a long drive and insane money for that drive is not worth it to risk standing in front of an empty pab wall, or only finding bricks that I don't need. So if I go once a year, do all the effort, spending money on a ticket, I most definitely expect a good selection.
      Now with that change I won't go anymore.

      @@hanzocloud lol my pab cart is $175 and there's no large plates or bases and it's only 524 pieces...I gotta look into bricklink but as a Canadian that multiple $20 shipping is insanity. Why can't lego just sell lego? lol The creator and classic bins are a joke - but even they are a better value than online pick a brick.

    I totally agree. The table at the back is so helpful. Having the PAB wall at the back was perfect as it was out of the way so that people buying sets and buying parts weren't in each others way. In terms of the specialized parts that could be good depending on the parts. Over here in Australia there's always the same specialized parts which I doubt many people would want in larger quantities such as steering wheels and the smaller wheels (as in the tiny ones).

    • @brickloverbrad
      @brickloverbrad  7 місяців тому +1

      exactly! it feels like you’re in the way now by stacking parts- especially since there is no table and people are constantly walking by

  • @WMARUoriginal
    @WMARUoriginal 5 місяців тому +3

    This design choice basically tells me two things 1) The PAB section is not a huge money maker if they cater to people taking a lot of time to stack bricks 2) Space for other sets is more profitable. This decision sucks for their most loyal fans, but I understand mall space is not cheap and physical retail in general is a tough business.

  • @MrViscom78
    @MrViscom78 10 днів тому

    They should turn that cup stacker into the start of one side of a shelf. Make it extend out into the store. Two flat surfaces. Underneath place empty boxes to fill or more places for sets of product.

  • @KWHCoaster
    @KWHCoaster 7 місяців тому +2

    Yeah, disappointed the PAB in Yorkdale Mall lacks a work surface/area. I sure hope the Fairview Mall location doesn't do the same thing. Rest of the new location is nice. One thought crossed my mind, with PAB out front, maybe fewer "sticky fingers".

    We had this style and size of wall in Dublin as soon as the store opened in 2022. They replace the bricks very often. It’s worth checking once every week.

    • @brickloverbrad
      @brickloverbrad  7 місяців тому +2

      that’s good to know! I just wish the store was closer tho- it’s a 40 min drive so checking weekly isn’t really an option haha. I just still wish it was bigger & had a better stacking area

      @@brickloverbrad I talked to the guys at the store in Dublin about this. And they were like "don't worry about spending an hour stacking bricks on the floor, it's perfectly acceptable". I like standard pieces my MOCs uses tens of thousands of 2x2 round plates among many other standard parts. The pick-a-brick wall Is the reason I go to Lego shops, it should be out the way from those buying sets and it must have a table. The bigger The Pick-A_Brick wall the better, it should have standard and more interesting pieces

  • @accuratebrickinnovations

    Man i feel your pain. It's simply too narrow of a design. It looks like you could get 2 or 3 people in there side by side and that's it folks. I think they were looking at the total sales on average each day for every store and the pab sales account for on average 1 to 2% of total sales per store and so they thought they allocated 1 to 2% of wall space for the new design lol. I genuinely think that's what the thought process was. And it's a shame because it went backwards in my opinion. I think the overall design of the wall looks cooler because you can see the colors of the elements better. They should have considered making the bins smaller if they wanted to make the area that small.

    My local LEGO store here in Australia got a redo a while back with the same new store format. Except that they are a fair bit larger than what I see here and they have a full 3 of those vertical stacks of rectangle PaB containers to put parts into. I would love to know why LEGO has decided that these new stores should get such a small PaB wall...

  • @eriebrick
    @eriebrick 7 місяців тому +1

    Darn, I still have the plastic cups with the recycling barcodes on them... if you bring them back to the store and resume them you get a $1 off the PaB purchase... I better cash them in b4 the cardboard arrives 😮

    • @brickloverbrad
      @brickloverbrad  7 місяців тому +1

      I imagine many still have the cups- so no idea if that program will continue or not. I can see it continuing, because that still reduces waste for them, but I can also see it ending since the shape of the containers will be very different. Regardless, I hoard cups because I use them for sorting

      My local LEGO store has already replaced the cups with cardboard containers. But, they still accepted my cup, including rebate, the last time I went. I don't know if this is a general policy or if I just got lucky, but it's worth a try.

    The turnover is cool for people who live near Lego stores but doesn’t do anything for people who rarely can visit them (the nearest one to me is 2 hours away). Also the basic bricks can be great. Its great to have some specialized parts to throw in but the vast majority of people don’t need a thousand heart tiles, trophies, or candles. Basic building bricks for good value is the highlight of PaB especially when they’re in useful neutral colors. The masonry bricks are also extremely popular and regularly sell out at PaB walls for a reason.

    • @brickloverbrad
      @brickloverbrad  6 місяців тому

      yeah that’s why i think it should be a priority for LEGO to ALWAYS have the wall stocked with good parts.. you just don’t know who’s visiting! I guess you’re making a good point about basic bricks- I don’t often get them, but that’s because I visit frequently and will often just add a mixture of the specialty parts

    A Lego store just recently opened here and I was slightly disappointed that it had this style of pick a brick wall. The walls on either side make it feel cramped and annoying to try and make efficient use of space in the cups, as you can’t get many people in there able to spread out. It feels like another step toward Lego being about collectors items instead of encouraging creativity and building, but at least the pab wall is still there and I can actually go to one now, I’ve never had a local Lego store until now!

    • @brickloverbrad

    • @Thinginator

      @@brickloverbrad It feels like it was designed to make you feel guilty about spending too long stacking bricks to maximize space, as you would be "hogging" the wall by doing so, and I don't like that. Same with not including a table to put your cup on. The new wall just wants you to dump pieces in your cup by the handful as quickly as possible without trying to maximize space efficiency and subconsciously shames you for trying to get your money's worth.
