Tahu: are you OK? Kopaka: No. You? Tahu: No. Let's keep moving. Some may call it brash, others hot-headed, but Tahu's seeming need to push forward with the plan to save everyone is a nice representation of his courage. Reminds me of a comic page I saw (cannot remember if fan content or official) where he made a plan that was high-risk/high-reward, overly confident in their ability to handle the risks. Kopaka calls him out on this, Tahu ignores him, things don't go to plan. The toa are able to win but afterwards there's an interaction... Tahu: my arrogance cost us the village Kopaka: yes, but your courage allowed us to save the Matoran.
Damn! You could reallt feel Makuta's prescence this time around! 😰 The moment Tahu got engulfed in shadows I was like " aw shit, here we go again... 😖"
Kopaka: We should gather the others. Tahu: Nah, this way is better. *Ten or so minutes later* Tahu: We should’ve gathered the others. Kopaka: If I was Gali, I would drown you right now!
Tahu: this cheap copy of me can't beat me Makuta: he doesn't have to Meanwhile Kopaka: *experiencing the worst timeline* Love how developed the Kopaka/Pohatu is, to the point that Kopaka's feelings if ultimate failure include him being unable to save the Toa of Stone
So much foreshadowing. Love it. Also, Kopaka totally stole Nuju's line about not caring who was the leader since he wasn't planning on following them. Ko-Toa, am I right? 🥶
Another wonderful chapter establishing the looming threat behind the rising one. Considering that ta wahi is mostly open space despite the heat hazes and volcanic ash, and all the dedication the ta matoran have put toward defense, it makes sense they are successfully fending off increasingly larger swarms… but at the cost of staying holed up in their village more or less… and none of them know truly how many bohrok the swarm has to throw at them… Tahu may have a tiny inkling that sheltering in place is working now but it’s not the way to fend off the bohrok entirely… But Kopaka is thankfully on his way to shed light on that easily over looked factor. Seriously without more proactive data, victory syndrome would surely set in and then they’d all be doomed when kini nui levels or more of bohrok come knocking at every village left. Well, it stands out to me that Tahu and kopaka are at least tolerating each other much better, but I still feel it’s for the wrong reasons. Kopaka is coping by reserving the right to call BS and not cooperate and Tahu is arrogantly lording his de facto leadership over kopaka… it doesn’t make me cringe as much as their lower points but still… I don’t think I’m much of a leader, but I’d still ask at least “How many?” Depending on the answer would sway me to either scout it out first or just go get the other toa But in comes the monkey wrenches, the villages may be safely defended but the rest of the island isn’t, not what I would have expected, but it’s reasonable that the digging focused nuhvok would try poking holes in a volcano to drain it… not sure if that is supposed to starve Ta koro but it could help…. Tahu’s logic to even consider Norik’s pass isn’t completely nonsense but kopaka still has the right idea. Defeated (barely and with all six toa) does not equal completely gone, and even if all toa were present I’d still rather not borrow trouble with Makuta’s domain, because once again we are flying blind and we don’t know his status Of course tahu misinterprets his own foolhardiness as “making the tough calls” missing the fact that asset preservation and resource management is critical and charging through problems is bound to cost you, eventually cost you something you can’t take back It was a funny kind of silly touch that tahu and Kopaka are acting like kids that don’t want to “loose” even the most trivial of “competitions” between them But thankfully tahu was wise enough to realize the canyon wasn’t worth the risk when the oppressive aura of the canyon was made clear. Spooky that despite the foreboding, the canyon is creating a sort of beckoning pull that the toa have to struggle to resist Just for the literally decaying situation with terrifyingly increasing numbers of bohrok to force their hand “what up toa? Did you miss us, what’s wrong? Can’t take the heat!?” Interesting touch that kohrok are incenerated by lava and intense heat, but Tahnok bathe in the stuff…. Why do I suspect that the inability of kohrok to get through the village defenses is why the Tahnok showed up in ever greater numbers and I bet they will be moving towards ta koro next…. The bohrok probably don’t even know Makuta is a factor as I bet he is just staying out of their way while he concocts his next approach, not sure what kind of obliteration physically sealing off Norik’s pass serves, as it was practically already impassible already, but then, maybe they were trying to fill it up…? But I can’t say the bohrok were too successful as the lava didn’t flow into the pass… although the lava will eventually cool and harden, so maybe sealing off the passage , unlikely as it was, was the point This is all assuming it wasn’t Makuta’s timing or influencing the bohrok attack to yank the toa’s chains again Tahu just had to antagonize Makuta, and I think it’s roughly clear that Makuta is really loving just giving his opponents nightmares, like a kid hyper analyzing over a toy he loves Tahu is no longer such a raging loon so Makuta undermined his bull headed confidence with portents of futility and helplessness, and while I bet tahu could simply make a huge blow torch out of a sword hilt, the shock of his blade suddenly becoming dust is perhaps too much for him to adapt to Immidiately I wonder if Tahu’s blade being reduced to dust was foreshadowing More foreshadowing: “the island will crumble. Mata nui will die and I will take his place as the true great spirit” interesting that Makuta has been giving tahu lots of clues, probably knowing that Tahu doesn’t have the wisdom to make sense of them until the worst should come. Poor kopaka having his own worst case scenario but he’s being tortured with loosing what he’s beginning to love. Losing pohatu to freezing like that was indeed brutal. I feel like Kopaka is starting to remind me of Peter Parker/ Spider-Man in a sense. Kopaka will fight with everything he’s got to save everyone but he knows he can’t save everyone every time. And it still hurts him like nothing else, despite his refusal to emote. It’s painfully damning that pohatu is indeed really careless, but that can also change. Tahu and kopaka are not on common ground with understanding each other yet, but I feel this brush with portents of the worst helped remind them both that they at the very least really need each other and their squabbling is nonsense, But once Makuta has had his fun he chases them out of the pass with a collapse (or did the bohrok cause it?) and what I suspect have to be kratta slugs, I find this entire situation far more terrifying because the toa are not together, makuta can’t be struck directly here, and it’s a case of the monster in the darkness chasing them out of its space. Can’t blame the two for trying to get out of that space as much as they could, but something tells be they are both in some level of shock and have been humbled a bit more, if not also probably feeling embarrassed at their own helplessness, so of course they are trying not to talk about it for their own morale and to save face to the other. But after the successful scout mission, tahu reneges on his bravado and insists they should have gathered the others first, contradicting himself as he’s been shaken by Makuta’s still substantial power and presence. I feel kopaka’s frustration too.
Damn that was brutal, especially with how close Kopaka and Pohatu have gotten, I didn't even think about the fact that a Matoran can be burned like a human. Also great job on Makuta's voice, it's legit amazing.
Man, it's so good to have this series back. Feels like a being a kid again, impatiently waiting for the next episode of your favorite show to air after a hiatus. Also, Kopaka's nightmare sequence escalated real fast. Like DAMN...
Another fantastic chapter as always! I love that we get to see what is basically Kopaka's worst nightmare and learn more about how his own insecurities and worries without him or anyone really saying anything, very fitting for the character! Also loved that they both just admitted they were not okay after dealing with their own momentary personal hell. It feels like they're both finally beginning to understand each other instead of trying to one up the other.
this chapter was an amazing listen, the bits of growth with tahu's character as a leader making snap decisions followed by him bull heading others was nice. the bits with tahu n his shadow was a good call back with the shadow toa not being compeltely forgotten the next book prior. as was kopakas nighmare was nice to the haunting visuals alone did this chapter justice imo. cant wait for the next one
