Black album is my all time favorite. It's perfected to a tee. After that for me its Justice and then Kill em All. I also think St Anger has one of their chunkiest and heaviest tones ever
Ride, Puppets and Justice for me. Surprisingly, I think No Life 'till Leather demo guitar sounds better than Kill 'Em All when played side by side like that. I think Death Magnetic and Hardwired guitar sounds better isolated than they do in the full mix.
It's surprising to me that most of these guitar tones actually sound pretty shitty, in my opinion. I realize it just now listening to them on their own. I like the tones of Load and Lulu for example.
Yeah, isolated tracks often sound shitty both in terms of tone and performance. I guess it's fine as long as it sounds good in the final mix of the entire band.
As much as I love Metallica, the production on most of their albums is not good. Say what you want about Bob Rock, but they sounded HUGE on the Black Album, in the exact same studio where they made AJFA, which was way too dry and boxy.

I AM THE TABLE!
Death Magnetic and Master of Puppets are the heaviest sounding in my opinion.
Master, garage and justice>
St Anger is their heaviest tone imo

Dude Guitar Hero stems can't reflect the final version of guitar sound, especially load reload era
