    I agree with what you say. I was initially surprised to hear news of the sacking, but in the same breath, suddenly, a lot more hopeful. By the very nature of the sudden loss of Ellis Simms and Ross Stewart early last season, we evolved and developed a unique style of playing, using incredible 'wing force'. This system was so different, it caught many teams unawares and contributed hugely to our final table position. Now, many teams have studied us, and know our system and the element of surprise, has gone. When we did buy strikers, we didn't know how to utilise them but carried on using wing force with teams putting every man behind the ball. We certainly have the talent, and hope aside, feel that whoever we bring in will be well aware of our current limitations. Regarding Tony Mowbray, I grew to really like and respect his values, integrity and attitude and wish him all the best for the future.

      Hi there and thanks for taking the time to drop a note. Mowbray is a decent manager. He'll set you straight and get you playing some good football. Some of the issues I highlight were specific to our squad (like being poor at aerials) and won't necessarily be a problem with yours.
      He has a good win rate and plays very aggressive attacking football. doesn't concentrate too much on defence and his game plan is a little one dimensional. Subs often make little sense and are just thrown on religiously on the hour mark to try and make an impact.
      Overall he'll probably do alright and put you on the right course. GL.

    Been saying this for weeks. As much as I like Mowbray we have clearly not being playing to incorporate a striker. So many occasions I've witnessed strikers, Rusyn, Hemir, Mayenda and not forgetting Jobe who seems to make some of the best runs off the shoulder and into channels, all runs you expect strikers to make but frustratingly the ball never arrives. Whether it's our central midfield or balls out from our defenders bringing the ball out. They never see the pass or are just too used to playing sideways into feet to the likes of Clarke or Roberts. Literally every other team we play against turns the ball around quicker by doing what you highlight in one of your examples. Ball popped over the top or in behind, down the channel and we're suddenly defending a potential goal threat. So frustrating and pretty damn easy to resolve. Even with "raw" strikers. Good piece though 👍

    • @altending
      @altending  8 місяців тому

      Ty, yes, I don't buy the strikers are too raw to ever score. That can't be the only reason. Some of it has to be about the way we play too. Let's see what the managerial dice roll gives us next. Whatever it is...we'll be here.

In brief, the magic had gone from our game. I watched this on the day of upload, but it is now Sunday, after the West Brom game. The first half looked like nothing had changed, but the second half felt as if Doddy's half time talk had simply been making the Lads watch this video 😀 Hopefully the latest result is them back to winning ways and you can look forward to editing videos with a smile on your face again 🙂 Great upload, Liked and Subscribed.

    TM is a great Manager, he'll do well at Brum and he would of done well at Sunderland if given real backing and a decent chance. I think both teams league position at the end of the season will show this was a massive error of judgment by Sunderland. I'm not a Sunderland fan but if I were I'd want John Eustace in replacement. You can't change your Manager every season and expect success. Look at Alex Ferguson at Man Unt or Jimmy Hill at Coventry City, they started off slow but went on to make them massively successful clubs for years and years. I'm guessing being one of the smallest clubs in the north of England Sunderland are under huge pressure to look good next to the Giants of Newcastle Unt, but they should just be themselves and not worry about how much better and classier the likes of Newcastle Unt or Coventry City FC for example are. I think they will live to regret this sacking. Go Jossy's Giants!!!

    I agree with a huge ammount of your analysis (have you ever considered applying for a managers job?) but we are currently 6th and the next manager has the job of finishing where we are now in the table as I reckon the board had 6th or higher as the target for the season. That's an unusual position to come into as most new managers face avoiding relegation or moving up 8 or 9 places up the table. This is a great job for someone with some tactical nous. Like I said (do you fancy it)?
    Taking over a team already in the play off places is a special opportunity for someone as most will forget this fact if we start the first game of next season in the premier league and will hail the new manager as a miracle woker. As it stands and if the season ends tonight we would have a 1 in 4 chance in the lottery of the play offs which would be no miracle if we won.
    Managers/coaches who have ambitions to be PL managers should be queuing up to be the next Sunderland coach.

      Glad you liked it. Decent manager Mowbray. He'll sort you out and make you competitive. Quite a few of his problems for us were very squad dependent, but if you pick some of the match reviews I did from pre-December (some wins, some losses), an odd pre-season one and some from the end of last season, you'll get a very good idea of how he will play. Enjoy and I hope he does well for you.

      Very good. Amazed you let him go. Your owner must have wanted to pocket some cash before he sold up? Sometimes, he holds on to the ball too long and makes the wrong choice, but he's only just turned 18 and is probably the best 18 yr old I've seen. If it wasn't for his brother, he'd be talked about a lot more.
      Sadly the Baddies won convincingly. Gulf in class was evident..even though we played below par.

    Its been really obvious that we have "learned" to play a style that doesn't rely on strikers, and so our goals are often/always cracking bits of play or good hits. Adding a striker back in to the mix without any changes to the style has been quite clear. I even suggested we went back to no strikers for a while to boss games, as its when we play best - and then maybe bring strikers on for 20 mins at the end when we're well on top, to nick goals. Its an awful solution, but in the absence of other ideas.....
    I feel really bad for Mowbray, it was a good spell overall and by no means was I calling for his sacking. As you say though, what are the club's true ambitions - sounds like they wanted to replace him earlier but couldn't due to decent results.

    • @altending
      @altending  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I think you are right. I wanted Mogga to succeed here, alas it was hard to see how we would improve in recent games. His answer seemed to be just more attack, it needs variety as well though. I hope we see him back at the club if/when we get a day out at Wembley sometime. Nice guy, did well for us.

    The guy did a brilliant job but the fact that we were looking at other options in the summer tells us the powers that be didn't see him as a long term appointment. His sacking didn't come as a total shock. His post match interview on Saturday in which he stated he was a development manager and cited Burnley as a cautionary tale about going up too early the inference was promotion wasn't to high on his agenda sealed his departure. and i think he knew it.
    His sacking was harsh in light of his whole tenure at the club but there was a certain amount of justification for it. .

    • @altending
      @altending  8 місяців тому

      Yeah, I think his time was always borrowed from the summer when the board were rumoured to be looking for someone else. It seemed like the first misstep and they'd get shot of him.
      On Burnley, their problem is that their best players were loaned from other teams (Maatsen, Tella, Harwood-Bellis) or aging and leaving (Barnes & Weghorst). They got promoted with a side that meant they had to spend £80 million just to stand still. If we went up it would be spent on improving the squad...something Burnley have not been able to do.

    • @stephenwatson7107
      @stephenwatson7107 8 місяців тому +1

      Mowbray was trying to point out it's a long term project. By bringing in potential strikers instead of a proven one, side lining Pritchard to give younger players game time , selling Batth when he could have been good cover this is also the way the owners see it. .We are going to have set backs so to sack Mowbray over when his record says he didn't deserve it seems a bit hypocritical.. He he was never the man they wanted in the first place. It also explains why Neil was right to leave , he wasn't comfortable with the long term plan..

    Excellent, once again but I do think that this season will be something of an anomaly insomuch as, because the top four are beginning to look like they're going to completely run away with things and could open a massive gap, I think that five and six might get into the playoffs with ridiculously low points totals. Anybody else of ten or so below them seem capable of beating each other.
    Could be wrong, like. 😂

    • @altending

      Yes, it looks like Leeds upward are going to breakaway with it. the three previous lowest points total to claim 6th spot in the last decade are 69, 70 and 72. The 69 was us last year. Many of these problems seem to me to be down to players not doing the job properly rather than managerial incompetence.

    • @altending
      @altending  7 місяців тому

      Some of the problems are certainly squad specific, not the players not doing things, more limitations of the squad, young, until recently a lack of height in defence...that kind of stuff. There are other things that will recur for you lot - poor use of subs, over focus on all-out attack, occasional lack of a plan B. Take a look at some of the games I reviewed prior between December this year and last. The more recent ones are better in tactical breakdown. Pick some wins and losses and you'll get a feel for his teams and what issues were a Sunderland specific thing

    i lilked this video to continue supporting the channel but i dont like this video also haha. all the teams will have less points and more losses who reach the playoffs this year. its a much more even and stacked championship than there has ever been. also tony mobrays teams that hes coached have all had a different style and look. he knows how to play different football. i get very frustrated with the fact theres no through balls etc i stand there and complain to whoevers will listen every match about the lack of it. but hes coaching the players to their strengths. if you try impliment an entire new system and unsettle the team at this point in the season there is 0 chance of us making the playoffs. our lads dont have the brains for it yet. they arnt used to the style. they will lose confidence in themselves to execute. and when things go tits up they will revert back to what they know. the sacking of mobray is the wrong choice at this point in the season. its suicide.

      @altending  8 місяців тому

      Hey there. Thank you so much for that especially as you don't agree. I think you are right about the new coach, I think unless we are very lucky and get someone very skilled that the change may well be too disruptive, but who knows. I liked Tony, I wanted him to succeed here, but I know he wasn't in their long term plan and I was trying to understand why they pulled the trigger now. I hope I didn't present too negative a picture, I generally try to see the positives, but we were certainly struggling to improve. Will it be any different under a new guy? who knows. I'll do my best to try and deduce what's going on. I won't always be right, but stick with me and I'll do my best to entertain as well.
