I wanna build one with fully detailed inner framework made from balsa tho it will be difficult to paint without an airbrush I also wanna add led lighting and go all out on the details I might even pre cut the roof into individual corrugated sheets it will be an amazing centerpiece for my Gaslands board
That sounds awesome. I did do one build with an LED smoke effect, just cotton wool and an LED candle, it was cool, but it was also fairly rough, so I didn't include it in the final version. There's heaps you can do, and your ideas sound great for this. With an inner framework you could certainly remove lots more of the corrugated sheets and detail out the inside, I'd size it up a bit if you're going for individual sheets as well, I remember I limited myself to the size of the corrugated paper I had for this build, but a larger hanger makes sense for lots of reasons :) Good luck mate, let me know how it goes.

I have ripped one layer of cardboard boxes so could use that instead of having to buy any corrugated cardboard from crafts store. Got the cardboard already anyway.
From rural saskatchewan here, a lot of quonsets tend to have the vertical curved walls extend all the way to the ground. It wouldn't normally be horizontal at the bottom portion. But otherwise... nice! I'm gonna make one myself.

That corrugated paper works so well, you'll see me use it a few more times yet. The stuff I get is Krafters Korner brand if you're having any trouble locating it, although I think it's pretty common in crafting communities, so art and craft stores, cheap dollar stores, or even school supplies stores should stock it. Take care mate.
The best rust colour I've come across is real rust. Just buy some regular steel wool, stick it in a cup of water and stir it over the next few days. It can be dried and rubbed on with a piece of cotton fabric and graded as you go.
The hanger looks really good. I learned a lot from this tutorial about using the corrugated card and cardboard and I think the painting looks very good. Thanks for sharing this.
if your using the corrugated cardboard for the roof you have to do in in the orientation you are using otherwise the rain, snow, dirt can't run down the sides
Exceedingly cool. I am planning to make a few aircraft hangars for smallish scale WWII gaming. I had come up with the same basic idea (corrugated cardboard), and you have given me a few invaluable tips that will make it easier and produce better results. .
I'm going to whip up another one or two of these and get some more practice with the painting, I was also a bit rushed to get this one done after being a bit sick last week. But you're right, the stencil effect got a bit lost in the end, and they were looking good while they were there. A few windows on the side might look ok too....and now I'm going to spend way to much time playing with this instead of building other stuff :) . This one is a lot of fun. Thanks for watching mate.
@@RFDHobby Toying around is the name of the game ;D That's how you stumble upon best ideas, and the with the airbrushed rust it looked reaaaly realistic. I didn't even think about how such a structure rusts until I saw it!
Thanks, this one surprised me as well, I went to make a 'quick' test piece for this before recording and hours later I had built a small diorama (you can just see it in the background in the intro), I just ended up getting carried away with it. Sometimes I might do things for no apparent reason. Usually however, I'll use the PVA glue if I think I might need more time, or need to move the piece as I'm putting it in place. The hot glue is very fast to set, and a bit messy as well, so it might depend on the situation and the piece I'm putting in place. PVA glue will shrink and dry clear, so you won't be able to see much (if any) of the sqeeze out once it's dry, it'll leave a much cleaner look if you're gluing to the outside of something, hot glue however will leave bubbles of dry glue if it squeezes out. Yes, it's really hard to see in the video, but it turned out perfect for a weatherboard siding effect. So long as you have something hard, like a rolling pin, or spray can, you just apply some pressure as you roll it over the paper and it removes the corrugations, and 'folds' them all done the same direction. If you've got some of this paper handy, just give it a go on some scrap, it honestly looks great for this.
@@thrashviking7707 absolutely, the scale is close to spot on too. I tried a similar effect using the sticks on the test build, and it works ok, but it's pretty rough, and the scale is a bit off (not to mention a pain to put together). This was so easy and effective. Thanks again mate.

Why do you use hot glue to connect the cardboard but PVA to put the wooden beams onto the cardboard roof frame?

Thrash Viking I will teach you some of or sacred Australian tongue. We call that corrugated metal building material 'Galvo' go hard on the 'a'.
