I have the older version of this tripod, which has a reversible center column and a stubby column. I thought I would never use the reversible column, but then I got into macro, and now I use it all the time.
I'm just an amateur, but I've used the up-side-down method a lot. Especially if you have remote shutter. It's really helpful for macro shots and shots shooting straight down, or nearly straight down. (Tarantula coming out of it's hole, fish in a stream, fish in an aquarium, etc) I "discovered" this use back in the 1970's with an old absolute tank of a tripod back in the day. But even my little Benro I modified so I can do this. When you angle the camera so the lens is pointing down your controls are facing up. Easy. ;-)
The shorter centerpost comment is right on. Without it it's no go for me. The one on sale is the older model. Haven't checked out its replacement.
