I had to do the ride as a 35F. Failed most the task and didn’t get my Spurs. But most of the leadership was like this intelweenie did it when you chubby mf scouts need to be out there doing it instead.
When I was attached to the 1CAV I had no idea what a spur ride was, except it got me outta duties for a few days. No idea what I was doing but hey now I got them and can never wear them 😂
I regret never doing a spur run really. At least I got to do air assault but still The pride and honor I never got to deploy either which is more of a blessing but. I still wanted to experience that pain

Prior service 11b (EIB and CIB holder), switched to Cav a few years ago, and I gotta admit.. 19D skill level required over infantry is a little more which gained my respect. I still loved being infantry, but you just can’t have a regular infantry dude do scout shit, but you can have a scout do infantry shit. It is what it is. Hopefully I’ll get to go with my squad for the Gainey Cup next time
I wanted to Bear Program for 19D when they had the E4 shortage. Got stop movemented. I had been in our scout platoon, and liked the smaller team mindset and treatment over the line, once the INDOC period is over. That’s the plus side I saw on the 19 series side. Less treat everyone like dogs hit. And you’re on point about the proper person for reconnaissance. Our Infantry scout platoons tend to be PLd and PSGd by Rangers. The problem with this is Rangers tend to be control oriented, and they’re being used in a very Commander’s Intent job. I think Infantry lost a lot of their Reconnaissance abilities during the GWOT.
Love the Cav but ,,,,,, still not wearing a Stetson or Spurs. Idk just can't go full cowboy.. Problem is alot of the if you don't wear them your not in there little team and so you will probably will get some extra duty etc

You can go be a scout. They train at Benning now. 5/15 Cav. I trained at Knox 20 years ago as a 19D. My son graduated as a 19D about a year back from the same troop. Starts with a trip to the recruiter. Scouts Out!

I always have my first CAV unit, my air assault wings and my second CAV unit but you can decorate the back with your branch or badges that’s what makes it cooler
And you can also decorate the Stetson with your specific cord color! Like CAV scouts are yellow cord, medics are maroon and infantry is blue that’s what makes the Stetson
