    Compatibility with 3rd party addons will be the primary consideration for me as to whether I move over to the new sim. Let me say first that I know its ridiculous, but between airports, aircraft, and other addons Ive spent some $3500 plus. Thats a huge amount. But its what make the sim the most enjoyable to me.

    Just a slight correction, from an old 12+ year Microsoft/Xbox games developer; multi-core and multi-threading sort of is the same thing. A thread can run on any core. Many cores can run two threads interleaved (hyperthreading). If you're "multithreaded" you are also inherently "multicore". It doesn't make more sense to run more threads than you have cores, although for what's called "embarrassingly parallel" problems it can sometimes still make sense to have more threads than cores active, especially if there are dependencies between them.

    • @Glider324

      Acknowledged, but the reality is that MSFS, just like its predecessor is running using primarily 1 core (often at 100%) and never more than 3. In terms of multitasking efficiency this would help improve the wait cycle overall.

    • @grzegorztomasiak
      @grzegorztomasiak 3 місяці тому

      @@SimHangerFS have you watched last ms/asobo twitch, where they actually describe briefly multicore tasking in msfs2020 with graphics showing how it's divided per core? Certainly msfs2020 now is multithreading software and they described that very well.

    • @bjorn2625
      @bjorn2625 3 місяці тому

      @@SimHangerFS 100% true. It's got a render thread, a main thread and now an interuptable avionics threads, it seems. It's not very well threaded, building on top of an old single-thread engine. I'm sure they'll be making some architectural improvements, but in an eco-system so deep, so storied, it must be impossible to not break things.
      Most engines today basically have a main thread, a render thread and then a thread pool, which the main thread awakens when hitting embarrassingly parallel problems, like animation decompression, pathfinding, (a lot of) AI resolution, asset decompression, graphics buffer building etc. That allows developers to think relatively "single threaded" but still scales up to however many cores the host system has. Of course that is not the state of the MSFS engine, being very old.

    I've been an XPlane user until just recently. I just started using MSFS 2020 and I must say, it's very clunky compared to XPlane. Using a laptop, it takes two hands to make adjustments to headings and radio frequencies. Adjustments only last a few seconds, then you have to start over. Flight characteristics are not realistic, and searching the menus is very difficult. The graphics, weather, and some other things are fantastic. But from the prospective of a real pilot, MSFS is more like a game. Hopefully, the new version will be better.

  • @rmm9676

    FLIGHT MODEL QUESTION: Most YT channels that compare the MSFS and X-Plane platforms don't do a proper job of demonstrating various critical maneuvers. Try the cross control / base to final / too low - too slow maneuver. This is a critical maneuver that has been removed from PPL Skill Set. CFI's only demo this pilot killer at altitude. Student pilots don't have to demonstrate this to their CFI or to the Checkride DPE. No one remembers Asobo's DIRECT ASSURANCE during the by private invitation only, Global Preview Event that MSFS's thousand points on the wing flight model will properly have the C172 spin in. A broken promise.

    Hi Mark. First off, thank you for all the great content you post to UA-cam. I'm a newbie to MSFS and your page, and I just purchased the HC Alpha/bravo combo with TM rudder pedals, all set in a Next Level Racing FS Cockpit. I'm just learning how to navigate thru the MSFS program, and learning, bit by bit, what types of setup changes I need to make in my Assistance and controller Options in order for it to work as I'd like for the sim flying I want to do. I'm wondering if I could pick your brain on a few questions that I have. Just so you have an idea of my experience level, I'm a pilot with Commercial, Multi-engine and Instrument ratings with about 520 total hours, but I haven't sat in the left seat in about 30 years. So I'm familiar with cockpit operations, but to say the least, my skills have diminished considerably. Anyway, that's my background, but I was hoping you might be able to help me with some questions I have concerning my Honeycomb hardware and the MSFS software.

    Prior to 2020, they said virtually all PC add-ons will come to Xbox if the 3rd party devs wanted them to. It took them 4 years to work through technical issues (ongoing, many solved by 3P devs themselves), there is no freeware in the marketplace, and loads of payware devs have been waiting years for approval to be in the marketplace ‘club’. Never take their word at face value…
    Virtually all will turn to some will turn to finger pointing between MS, Asobo, and 3P which will turn toward demanding you pay more money.

    I am still unclear about whether I will need to buy Gamepass on PC. At present I don't (but had to on XBOX if wanted to use. multiplayer - indeed that was one of the reasons I switched to PC). I don't want or need to have access to any games; all I need is a good flight simulator. If I have to buy a Gamepass for 2024 on PC, it means that I will be subsidising those who want to be 'masters of none'. I have a feeling that all of the hype about improvements is 'smoke and mirrors to mask a switch to more profitable subsctiption-based business model. which at a stoke removes a significant proportion of the 'capital' value of my current MSFS2020 purchase with increased annual cost to boot.

    Also in the Options | General page there is no universal search box for commands. It only allows searching the small part of the options that you are currently looking at. The exact command you need can be hidden way down the menu and searching won't find it. This is only on the General window, not the Controls window.

    The only thing I wonder about this new 2024 Flight SIM game is how well is it going to be to teach someone like myself (beginner) that knows nothing about starting up an aircraft and flying it. I have worked on C-130 aircraft in the Air Force, in the Viet Nam years but does not make me an expert in knowing how to fly any Aircraft. Also i only have a RTX-3080TI GFX card, so I know there will be some limitations in running graphics. Plus I would want to do VR.
    Also be interested in what and how many aircraft come with the game - and hope not just a few planes and have to pay an arm and a leg for every aircraft that is half way decent. The game itself is probably going to be very expensive on initial launch. I will wait for sometime in the future to buy the game on a deep dive sale price. If it does not happen, I will not get the game.
    Thanks for the video. Take care.
