I’ve had mine for 10 years as a recreational toy, so it doesn’t see too much bad weather and stays reasonably clean. I enjoy pulling it apart every couple of years for TLC, they’re great bikes

Just watched you clean out the upper drain hole, i.e. the entry. What i did not see was you clean out the lower drain hole, i.e. the exit. I removed my water pump cover which allows you to clean out the whole path, mine was full of crud.

Hi Marty, from memory I ran something down the hole can't remember for the life of me what it was. Glad yours turned out okay 👍

Those 2 wires are for the heated grips switch on mine which would be on the fairing if it has them. Yours looks like it has a 12V accessory outlet plug instead and they would go to that.

ST1300 2003 had black wheels. I used to comment to my buddy who had one. My 2004 ahas silver wheels.

@@GodzillaGoesGaga ah, never knew that and it makes sense. Did prefer the silver though 🤔

BTW my buddy (who’s unfortunately passed away from medical issues) used to comment that the black wheels are faster and I used to tell him the silver was because the light pushed it more! Good memories. He’s the guy who switched me on to the ST and it was a great choice.

I’m about to do a tyre change so the back wheel is coming off. Going to put moly paste on the splines and grease the axle. Whilst watching your series I was thinking it might be worth you considering using electrolyte grease for your electrical bonding points since you deal with the wet more in blighty. At least it’s something to consider on your next service time.

@@GodzillaGoesGaga going to review a cheap tyre changer this week, sick of messing around without one. Ordered some moly paste, a few people now have had good thing to say about it. Hope the wheel change goes smoothly for you 👍

Jay, gotta say you’ve done a bang-up job there. Out of curiosity what was the mileage on the bike when you got it ? Was it stored outside too. There’s a lot of crud inside the bike so I’m guessing it’s done a lot of wet mileage in the UK. This series you’ve published has taught me a lot too!

You don’t need to remove the mufflers to get the back wheel off, just remove the two bolts at the hanger bracket and loosen the two clamp bolts then rotate the mufflers down and out of the way. Then you can remove the axle and wheel.
Also, I’m curious to know if it was possible to clear the drain hole using a coat hanger or similar from the exit end of the hole. Would have saved a lot of time.

    • @vroomroom1
      @vroomroom1  10 місяців тому

Good to know about the mufflers. Wil try it that way next time.
Would think a coat hanger would work just not mine as they are wood lol. Ride safe 👍

looks just as difficult to work on as a GL 1800 Goldwing to do maintenance.. I actually showed up to buy one of these ST 1300s with all the cash the seller was asking. It sounded great in the ad, lots of extra goodies, fresh tires, low miles, one owner, never dropped, aftermarket, windshield, seat, color, matched trunk..
I pulled up and fell in love with the bike before I even got out of my truck. I was ready and willing to go to the notary to switch over the ownership into my name. But, I needed to take it for a ride just to make sure everything worked, and that it tracked straight, and that there were no wiggles or wobbles or leaks, or ticks or rattles, or pops or screeches..
it was an 85° day Fahrenheit, the sun was shining. I put them on all my gear and told the owner I would not be back for at least an hour. I was out in rural Pennsylvania about 25 miles from Johnstown Pennsylvania. Yes, the great Johnstown flood Johnstown… lots of mountains, deserted roads through pastures and valleys..
by the time I got into Top Gear, I was sold. But I continued to ride and test the brakes and I wanted to see how the seat felt after half an hour. I wanted to see if I could feel any buzz through the bars through the tank through the seat through the foot pegs. Everything was fine…
10 minutes out, I started feeling heat, it continued to get hotter. I had my Kevlar riding jeans on, but I never felt heat like that. I thought that there was a water leak and I was getting hot water on my shins or an oil leak onto my legs. I pulled over and checked it out. No leaks… that he was coming off of the radiator.. I never felt heat like that even off of my for moto guzzi’s..
I turned around and headed back. The ride back was intense heat. The temperature gauge was reading, normal, and the fans had not even turned on.. I could feel the sweat running down my legs into my boots by the time I pulled back in the owners driveway.
he came out of the garage, smiling, and said, that was a quick hour. I said to him, how can you ride this oven. His smile immediately went to a frown, because he knew that was a dealbreaker. And he replied, that’s why it’s for sale.
I was very disappointed. I had just sold my moto guzzi norge that I owned for 14 years. A red one. I didn’t like the high foot pegs anymore riding position. But at that moment, I was sorry I sold my Norge.
I actually called the guy. I sold it to after about six months, and asked him if he would consider selling it back to me. He said, not a chance.

@@stropskoj Spain 47° (Cordoba 06/2002) You are right, just like my ST-1100, the Pan European ST-1300 does not suffer from the engine heat on my legs. I've heard others complain about it... not an issue for me, even with my Kawa Z 1300. 😎 👍

i am in ontario canada and my 06 gets so hot especially right leg, its my only complaint about the bike really, but if you put your bare hand on the frame by right footpeg it will burn it its so hot! amazes me how the plastic parts dont melt, i am considering wrapping the pipes to see if it helps@@stropskoj
