  • The threat of Christian Nationalism looms large as MAGA Republicans try desperately to erode the separation of church and state. However, it seems like a lot of the Americans who claim to be Christian Nationalists have no idea what it would mean for the country. The Damage Report's John Iadarola breaks it down.

It was so the people had the right to practice Protestant Christianity as the Catholic Church had such a hold on Europe politics that it was considered illegal.

Since the Ten Commandments are from the Old Testament, they also apply to Judaism and Islam, the 3 Abrahamic religions. But those 3 aren't the only religions in the US and children from all kinds of ethnicities and religious backgrounds go to US public schools. There is a place for the Ten Commandments to be displayed and that's in churches, synagogues and mosques, not schools. If you want your children to grow up in your faith, take them to church and display the Ten Commandments in your own home. Don't force everyone else to adhere to your beliefs. What's important to you may not be as important to someone else, and vice-versa. Hindus and Native Americans regard nature as being divine and that reverence is written into their moral codes. The founding fathers were mostly Christian in name only. George Washington, as the tradition of the time, bought a pew in a small church in New York City, and rarely attended (Oh, and it was in the Church of England. Go figure.). Thomas Jefferson literally cut out the parts of the bible he did not agree with. The founding fathers were very clear: this is not a nation with any particular religious bent. Practice your faith if it makes you happy. Don't practice any religious tradition if it doesn't make you happy. Don't inflict your faith values on the rest of us. If there is a deity that punishes me for not worshipping it despite doing my best to be good to others, or because I did things I couldn't know where harmful OR for not following some arbitrary deistic rules, then I don't think that deity is worthy of worship anyways and I would rather stop existing or allying with those it punishes or with whatever enemies it has to stop its tyrannical rule.

Don't get it twisted. The modern-day Christianity you see today is far removed from 1st-century Christianity. What's being practiced is replacement theology (Supersessionism) due to the early European Church Fathers' involvement with false doctrines. It's no wonder there are over 2,000 Christian denominations, not including the individual subsets, which is just plain crazy.

But they were also adamant about creating a nation that was not tied to religion, as they lived in a time where they saw the damage that could do to both state and church in many countries, and they had just parted from one of them. They wanted to try something different that would protect government from religion, and religious beliefs from government.
