Honestly, I've been putting off learning Blender... I've done some basic modeling but haven't finished any projects yet. Funny that this should get posted today because I seriously spent a lot of time thinking about Blender on the way home from work. Thanks, Smeaf!

I wouldn't recommend the donut guy to start with. My brain exploded because the donuts were too difficult to eat. Then, the sober guy (crossmind) arrived and brought me a cup of Japanese green tea, and he helped me reassemble my brain. 1000+ respect.

No one ever mentions Blender Studio. It's not free, but you are directly funding the development of blender. Julien Kaspar's stylized character tutorials are really well done and I was kinda shocked how much I was able to learn in just one month.

create a workflow plan. It's the same with me, if I don't have a plan or goal I just wonder around aimlessly not knowing what to do. So I created a workflow plan. For example, beginner videos I start off doing the Crossmind Studio course, then the Donut Series from blender Guru. My next goal is to complete a video from Grant Abbitt. Don't do back to back tutorials on the same channel. Freshen it up but create a list of projects. Lastly create a list of subjects to focus on, whether that be hard surface modeling or motion graphics and write down specific videos related.

  • @saltedmaple
    @saltedmaple Рік тому +5

Thanks for these. I'm still a beginner on Blender. The donut tutorial one did not do it for me, Instead, I had access to udemy for free and started learning there from Grant Abbit's tutorial. From there I watched many tutorials and little by little I can do my own model but still needs improvement. For everyone who has a hard time following some tutorials.
    - I suggest that you find some beginner videos that interests you then start from there.
    - Also another thing for everyone who finds it hard to even start, just watch videos for at least 2 mins > 4 mins > 6 mins > and so on this will start pumping up your energy to start something.
I saw this on a motivational video and this also applies to anything that you want to learn. Just watching/showing up to do something is already a progress. SLOW PROGRESS is still a PROGRESS. :D I hope everyone finds what they are looking for. Cheers! :D

I started with the donut, and then gave up after 2 videos, then locked it up with the crossmind studio's beginner ones, retrying the donut again and again can be tiring so I switched and that helped me get my boost since the first model in the crossmind studio's tutorial is a basic blocky building, very contrasting to a donut so it felt like a breath of fresh air, All I'm saying is Don't be afraid to switch tutorials, they're all good

There's another channel that I recommend for animation.
    Royal Skies.
Although he doesn't upload Blender tutorials anymore, his 1-minute Blender tutorials were a GOD-SEND. Specific and right to the point.
Any beginners that want to learn animation in Blender, trust me. Start with Royal Skies first AND THEN move on to Pierrick Pecaut (Whom I also follow extensively) because Pierrick has a lot more intermediate/advanced techniques in his catalogue.

  • @vasim495
    @vasim495 Рік тому +1

There's a level beyond intermediate. When you're getting by fine with your job and don't really need tutorials. But you wouldn't mind some small nuggets of info here and there to catch you by surprise. And that's where Blender Secrets comes in.
Then there's another group of viewers. Folks that live and breath blender, they don't necessarily need any hand holding and have a good grasp of things, but still want to continue learning. It can get sickening though, and that's where educational entertainment comes in 🤣 Ian Hubert and yourself.
Also shout out to the therapeutics, where you just sit and watch someone fiddle with vertices for hours on end. Master Xeon, I also love the way elementza explains topology (he doesn't do blender tutorials but his methods apply to modelling in general regardless of the tool you're using)

Don't mind this comment, I'm just listing the resources for myself:
    BEGINNER
    ○ Blender Guru's donut tutorial.
Note: did it, but let's do it once again taking notes and doing a few creative versions of the donut.
    ○ Grant Abbit: great beginner-friendly tutorials.
    ○ Crossmind studios: goldmine
Ad: Squarespace. Idk if it's good, but they have something to offer, must investigate.
    INTERMEDIATE:
    ○ Southernshotty: stylized materials, and rigging basics. Funny stuff that looks like jelly, yay!
    ○ Ka1zen: tips + tutorials + nodes. Check "How to Create Professional Materials"
    ○ Ducky 3D: motion graphics (what's that?). Looks nice.
    ○ Josh Gambrell: hard surface and general knowledge.
    ○ Pierrick Picaut: all about animation.
    ADVANCED:
    ○ Default Cube and CGMatter: strange nerdy stuff that I don't understand
    ○ Polyfjord: rigging, I know what that is
    ○ Erindale: weird node stuff
    COURSES
    ○ CG Cookie's "Press Start"
    ○ Creative Shrimp "Cinematic Lighting" and "Procedural Texturing"
    ○ TOAnimate and P2Design's "Alive"

      No worries!
The answer is yes, it's a worth while skill to have, even if majority of it's function will be outsourced to A.I
Having the skill will open you to so many opportunities and you will always have the human touch which can't be beaten.

Any recommendations for product animation stuff kinda like your course on Skillshare ? Really enjoyed your course on Skillshare, although I’m still lost as to how to make my own textures for UV mapping.
