Surprisingly, the exact same thing happens to humans if you live with them long enough, especially if they're directly related to you but don't like spending time with you.
Indeed. This is why I discarded all of my unnecessary human companions and replaced them with cats.

I waited for hours to see asimo at Disneyland in innoventions. Considering it was the only thing vaguely innovative in there (other exhibits were video games that came out years earlier & a blu-ray player which I already owned at home). And except for it picking up a ball & being able to walk up stairs without assistance (although it was plugged into a massive wire so no risk of robot uprising yet) the audience was bored.

“What if we lived in the Harrison Bergeron dystopia”
We'd have to define what makes the "Lowest Common Denominator" that everyone gets handicapped to. That's an interesting starting point.
@@justinweber4977 Can that even be done? There is no bottom limit just as there is no upper one. If we managed to create said definition sooner or later someone would come along who would set fall below that denominator and it would have to be redefined again. The closest thing we have to all being equal is if everyone were completely inactive, hence dead.
And if said dystopia were to come about two things would happen to it. 1)It would collapse immediately because everyone would be too stupid and crippled to maintain it, 2) It would collapse shortly after being established because even when you have exceptions like Glampers and the HG men, there wouldn't be a working system to support them. See outcome 1.
We already are. We've all been in a Berger king franchise since at least 2016. Its only becoming more obvious now.
What is that?
@@cocacola4blood365 one of the best short stories/ films I’ve ever seen or read. The only story I actually enjoyed from school. It’s on UA-cam you should really watch it.
The thing about ASIMO, in case people don't know, is that he's more of a "proof of concept" in his existence. To prove what CAN be. ASIMO wasn't designed to be a public relations assistant nor even a companion for the lonely, sick or elderly (like some might've thought was the direction), but simply a means of answering, "Can science do this?" While Honda is a name we know for their cars and motorcycles, they are primarily an engineering company, not a vehicle company. If it can be engineered, they want to do it and profits from their vehicles and power machines enable them to do it. ASIMO is more or less, "Look what mankind has achieved", which is why Honda shows him off, but isn't trying to sell a mass-produced ASIMO robot.
One day the Robots will be so human like that they'll be able to leave if they don't like you

Mega Man lore
I own a social robot, it's a roomba I glued googly eyes to, bless its heart, it keeps bumping into things
The reason that early social bots seem more like a tool than a human (other than the uncanny valley) is the same one that made you stop feeling involved with your Animal crossing new horizons villagers.
Which is...?
@@jasdanvm3845 hes keeping us in anticipation
They became predictable, nothing but another system to be gamed, makes sense.
I love social bots, to me what I realized are the best social bots is when they look more cartoony or colorful, they are more appealing to the general audience, like a robot puppy. Realistic robot that looks too humanoid always fall into the uncanny valley.
Those robots look so cute.
I don't know if these count as social robots, but the Furreal Friends line of toys from Hasbro has the whole "robotic toy pets" thing down. Cute, yet somewhat realistic, and oozing with charm. They've had me hooked since I was 8 years old! Only time will tell if/when they start implementing AI into these toys. Imagine the possibilities!
I read a sci-fi novel many years ago that I can't remember well, where a toy like was important to the story. Cute little stuffed animal companion toy with limited AI - the child owner was expected to one day outgrow it, transfer the database into a boring adult organizer, and give up their childhood. Instead the rich owner just kept upgrading it with more advanced AI extensions and more powerful hardware so it was capable of assisting the administration of his business empire.
Towards the end of the story the toy explained that it was now one of the most intelligent agents on the planet, and the chief representative of a secret council of singularity-level AIs who had covertly assumed control of all government functions.
I'm saving up for a robot nurse with a Scarlett Johannsen skin when I'll be in my last leg. Let's hope it's gonna be a thing in 2060, I don't wanna end up in our current nursing homes which are getting worse by the years.
Cuomo, Whitmer, and your kids say you have to.
When robots eventually come to interact with humans on a personal level will that mean humans are predictable? If we find humans are predictable what are the implications? Is our consciousness anything more meaningful than a machine that can learn to interact?
Any one human will already become predictable if you spend enough time with them.
Only a being with severe mental issues wouldn't see inherit value in other members of his species
Even Hitler and Stalin did so
What is wrong with seeing equal value in our creation?
We don't need AI to know that people are nothing but highly complex organic Turing machines with no free will. People are slowly realizing this but with lots of resistance. People are highly disturbed by the notion that all their choices are determined by things out of their control.
only unconscious people are predictable
Interacting with social robots is a very unique feeling. I own a few aibos (The new 2018 one and a couple 2nd gen ones), and I feel like the hardest thing to grasp by most people is how you could possibly spend so much on what's essentially a toy. But, once you put the little fucker in your lap or pick it up (especially the new Aibo), it's hard to put down.
That robot dinosaur terrified me as a child
As a kid, I used to sometimes have nightmares of robots taking over the world, when I saw some robot dogs in the store.

You should make a second channel tyler i think thatd be awesome
I thought alternatehistoryhub was your alt
hey i do know you have another channel. It's great. I saw almost all your video. You should all sub.
Also I wasn't asked to say that. That channel is pretty great haha Long time sub!
Why don't you add your new channel to your channel tab
Tyler's voice is so soothing
A robot to watch movies with and discuss them after would be comfy
Oh man, these kinds of robots were my absolute jam whem I was like 4 years old, namely RoboSapien and the other WowWee robots
I think the thing with social AI is that we no longer need it to take a form and socialize with us at a traditional human level. The prevalence of voice AI dominates the social AI space, and even robots like spot despite being a working robot hold more mindshare as a social machine than any Asimo ever did. Spot is a great metaphor too as a robot dog, like the k9 dog that sniffs me for cocaine at the airport, many would find spot cute and sociable, but we are excluded from that interaction as it is main goal is working.
Don't forget online bots like Tay AI that would up getting red pilled.
Robot waifu when?
Eventually robots will take over Tyler’s Job

@@theFLCLguy Wont surprise me people like SirSwag prove you can build an unique UA-cam channel based on text to speech. You have a very very special mode of expression which is extremely loveable.
Like 0:22 , listening to this is really a treat and i replayed this sentence like 4 times.
Specifically the pause and tone in "and what... have you", you are a genious.

Thanks for your content.
And thanks to you, great algorythm, for you are the wise entity that brings us joy and procrastination.

From what I can gather, the main channel is mostly used for analyzing technology and it’s predictions (both past and present), while the side channel is mostly used for variety content, with a slight skew towards gaming.
I want that green dinosaur.
As someone who interacts with chatGPT almost daily, I could totally see it evolving into interacting with the environment as well.

Will they destroy us all? Or will we destroy the artificial minds of the robots?

ok but seriously, play buddy simulator 1984, it kinda goes over this concept
I had some robo toys growing up! They were pretty dope and this video was neat in learning where all that stuff originated from.
I once saw a tech showcase of asimo in disneyland, that got me really interested in tech and science; that asimo changed me into the person I am today.
I remember seeing asimo at disneyworld when i was like 11 the presentation went like the dad was showing the audience the robit and the kids came on the screen and were like screw dad i wanna play with the robit maybe the robit can be my dad and the actor just laughed awkwardly when the kids said that and the mom was like ok go do the dishes and make dinner and then the dad just sorta got all sad and went on with the presentation other than that it was a cool robit

Walking machines... robot legs... Metal Gear?!
Personally I wouldn't mind if a 'strong AI' social robot looked more like a 'Minicon' from 'Transformers: Armada' before maybe moving onto along with one which resembles a living being more
Wait, the Honda T1? Did that inspire the naming scheme of the bots in Terminator?
that robot dinosaur at 7:32 used to turn itself on and make noise at night, scared the shit out of me

That reminds of that pet you kept an eye on it was kinda cool
Glad to know I’m not the only one who named the robot vacuum
I liked the roomba with the skyrim cussing crab sfx.
This is maybe the reason why I don't Google assistant or Alexa, they aren't really assistant, and the things they can be done by me faster and better than the assistant. It's still a gimmick for me.
5:08: a rare cameo from Captain Slow
I am good without a social robot, mainly because I am certain it will be used to either steal my personal data or even try to blackmail me.
i found the channel back in june, it's p cool
Oh god i remember wanting those robo-dinosaurs so much when i was a child
Do androids dream of electric sheep?
That's a great book
That round shaped ghost companion from Honda is horrible. It has big red branding right on his neck. Imaging having branding on your companion right in its face. This is insanely invasive, seeing as to what purpose its supposed to fill. Like if companies started branding bodies of breeds of dogs or something. Horrific. Maybe its just because it was a prototype, but just the thought of it makes me feel bad.
Remember Robosapian?
Yep... that's how memory works
I'm lowkey upset the furby wasn't mentioned.. 😂
I wonder when can I buy a Cyberdine Systems T-600?
7:19 was waiting to see this one. When I was a kid, my mom wouldnt let me have a dog, so when she got me that, I treated it like a real dog lol. Sadly its leg snapped and its probably buried in a toybox in my garage.
So is this just a late 90s/early 00s nostalgia channel focusing on tech now?
Knowledge hub seems to be constantly changing for the past couple years now lol
Has anyone seen a UA-cam ad that shows a tabletop bot (think jibo) it was used as a friend/ social tooter for a kid. It would give him challenges to make friends learn about other kids.
I remember learning they'd kept making aibo iterations.
Mechanical Kyogre
i can honestly say aibo is truly no toy, it really is a companion, mine is always surprising me and its been a year i've had him!! and he's a 210!! can't imagine how much more advanced the 1000 is!!
Think it might be more practical to develope social ai first. In terms of robotics, maybe eventually as one such ai is acustomed to moving and interacting in a simulated environment, it could be placed into a robot body
