  • In 1994 The Beau Hunks recorded "Celebration on the Planet Mars" an album with compositions by Raymond Scott. This is a live appearance on Dutch TV with presenter Han Reiziger. The group, who called itself "The Wooden Indians" at the time, consisted of Menno Daams (trumpet), Robert Veen (sax), Ronald Jansen Heijtmajer (clarinet), Jakob Klaasse (piano), Gert-Jan Blom (bass) and Louis Debij (drums). This performance took place at 's Gravelandseweg 65, Hilversum on May 8, 1994.

Trumpeter Menno Daams lost his entire right arm to cancer at the age of 12 and used a special harness to help support the instrument. Eventually he learned how to hold and work the instrument with his left hand and had no further use for the harness.

They really sound so much like the original recording by Raymond Scott and his group.

Yep. I wonder if they found the original arrangement or they "reverse engineered" an earlier recording.

Beau Hunks' album of Little Rascals/Laurel and Hardy tunes is first rate. Very nostalgiac for boomers.

That factory theme is one of the great musical themes of the 20th century.

Excellent! Raymond Scott would be proud! One of the most often-used themes in classic Warner Bros. cartoons!

Another superb BH performance--so great to hear--the original Raymond Scott Quintette channeled through six gifted musicians!

You can tell the drummer has been around for awhile. He's got that feel and sound that is hard to find - tasty licks, easy swing, and the 2 cymbal setup...

I've listened to various videos of this song on TY. I like the Beau Hunks' version the best.

Their musical heroes are mine as well: Leroy Shield, Marvin Hatley and Raymond Scott.

The whole key to the Raymond Scott sound is the drummer. He has to know the tunes while swinging his ass off. He's really good.

I LOVE this... it's the music used in the Simpsons quite a bit.... for factories/ showing something being made. Love it. Probably a very challenging piece to play as a musician too? Any musicians out there who can vouch for that?

I actually prefer the little "swing" rhythms that Carl Stalling wrote into this for Looney Tunes. And with a whole orchestra. I guess Raymond Scott wrote it straight.
