- Brandon Sanderson Talks Wheel of Time and Stormlight
In a recent live watchparty with @TheDustyWheel and @DanielGreeneReviews, fantasy author Brandon Sanderson spoke about the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of The Wheel of Time and revealed some of his future plans for his Stormlight Archive series.
Stormlight Archives needs either a movie on the scale of dune/lotr or a tv show like ASOIAF
Stormlight needs to be something like Arcane. Live action wouldn’t do it justice
Misborn would be awesome that way too!
Anime is the future for the books
Brandon has been very clear that while he personally loves animation, its still niche and limits the market. If something is going to break out and increase exposure to a wider audience, it needs to be live action.
Look at the Spiderman movies for a clear example. The Spiderverse movies are fantastic but they only make a fraction of even the least successful live action Spiderman. Ditto Star Wars or any other successful property that's hit in multiple mediums.
He's even specifically cited Arcane as a masterpiece, but notes that it has an absurd per-budget episode that they only get away with because its a passion project of the studio, not because it makes sense to spend that much money. For that kind of budget they *could* do a live show.
Read through Elantris and thought exactly that
Brandon himself said, because his books are so action packed, they basically need to be animated.
Justice for Uno!!
I love Uno
Wasn't it implied in the books that Uno had always been a hero of the horn? He probably isn't the only main character in the books that is a hero of the horn reborn.
Can't wait for Stormlight
The commerce rightfully deserves it’s own cinematic universe akin to starwars or marvel
I think you're saying cosmere here and I totally agree plus it will stick together and make more sense the way Brandon has laid it out.
Animated. I know that may not be desirable, but you could do the entire Cosmere animated properly
For sure I would love it in an anime style production
@@PelProS Me too! I also think it would be really fun for each planet to have it's own art style and worldhoppers look like a mix of their art style and the planet's art style, like I heard a really good idea which was for Warbreaker do be in a traditional diney style, like a musical, and I think Elantris should be animated in like, a Tim Burton esc way, but I haven't decided on Mistborn
Avatar TLE style, love it
Honestly animated makes so much sense. I understand the want to make it live action, but if we start animated then everything gets adapted to live action eventually. Animated will capture it so well
I agree
I think for a Stormlight show 8 episodes a season, one book per season could work if the episodes are an hour and a half to two hours.
This 6-8 episode thing is stupid. We need at least 12 episode shows back.
no way its going to work
@@Tuonela0agreed 8 episodes is to small a number especially for a book adaptation as big as the way of kings it just wouldn’t work not unless you were going to split the book into two separate seasons
nah 20 episodes qll 1hr -1:30 maybe some 2 hours for imporant parts like the endings and a seperate epipsode for the proulouge amd start of book 1
@@olcuqap1789 20 episodes isn’t needed or practical for one Stormlight book. The books are very slow, and would have to be trimmed up for a show in order to keep good pacing. 20 episodes would just have more filler.
Imagine storm light or mistborn in a “Avatar Style” animated show
Many fans it seems really want an Animated version.. Me too!
Tbh I think mistborn at least would be better served as live action. Things aren't so fantastical that it needs animation or an insane budget. And a well done mistborn can help secure the funding needed for a larger more demanding project like stormlight.
@@ri0s710 I could imagine live action mistborn but even with the largest budget I’m skeptical about stormlight being any good. I just can’t imagine them not fucking it up like they did Wheel of Time or Rings of Power
@@MyBoomStick1 except the visuals weren't the issues with WoT or RoP. Live action or animation, all the money in the world isn't going to fix dogshit writing or studio interference.
@@ri0s710 There were some issues with visuals but yeah you’re right. Those shows sucked because of terrible writing and directing, but I’d be super wary of the same thing happening to cosmere adaptations
The more I read and listen to the Stormlight Archive, the more I believe that it was written to be made into a TV series. Sort of Game of Thrones style. I mean each book is very conveniently broken into parts. That fits very well with the structure of a TV show.
I just think a movie, even if extended, wouldn’t be able to include all the essential necessary context for understanding the story and plot.
Creators have to retain creative decision making control over their adaptations. Otherwise their creation will be bastardized by some Hollywood producers or writers that think they can do it better. Just look at just about every book to film adaptation- including The Wheel of Time.
some are really good, Dune for instance was extremely faithful to books, and ironically that probably hurt its appeal to new viewers. WoT is to me sacrilegious abomination
At minimum when signing away the rights to make a show from the books, they need to have documentation of stating they aren't allowed to completely change the story, butcher lore, etc., and doing so is grounds for terminating their rights to making the show.
There are some things that are hard to put into film that you can do in books, so directors need SOME freedom in moving around and navigating changes as needed.
but then there's w/e the fuck wheel of time is, which is like the exact opposite. All the director has is freedom, and is actively ruining characters, lore, world building..
Idk why they didn't just create their own universe. Literally none of the characters are reminiscent of their book counterparts.
Where can i audition to be a Shinovarian for the movie 😂
I stopped at season one. Hope we get a decent animated adaptation in the future.
On one hand, I want this show to fail so that we can get a better adaptation down the line. On the other hand, if the show fails, I'm afraid we might not get another adaptation in the future because studio execs blame the IP and not the people responsible for this show
id rather no adaptation over the piss on Robert Jordan's grave we got@@stephengrant4841
The show is not wheel of time. The title says so but the books, their readers, and any sane person who understands what the wheel of time actually is knows it is not wheel of time.
There is adapting something and then there is just stealing the characters and world from one of the greatest authors of all time and writing your own fanfic.
ngl this makes me calm about the stormlight archive adaptation (and if it doesn't happen someone's getting kicked in the balls), because the stormlight archive are more than a thousand pages per book, so at the very least it needs 12 episodes per season
Cant wait for book five!
😮
where is this clip from?
It's listed in the description it was a Dusty wheel video
Sweet baby inc can’t be involved! I don’t want my favorite characters to be equity hires and pushed agendas.
Bedtime champ. You have school in the morning.
