  • Every Friday a group of us radio guys meet at the Flour Garden Bakery and coffee shop in Grass Valley to talk radio. This morning Grover, K7TP, passes out some modified computer mice to accept a key for Morsemail operation.
    After the mice are passed out, we start on our AO-51 satellite pass.
    What follows was not part of the plan.
    N1ASA tells us how to correctly do this!

    Used to work out of W.Sac for FedEx and would find myself all over the area including Grass Valley! In fact I think I used to use that same 440 machine before I moved to Japan. Now I stand in my apartment's parking lot doing the same thing as you guys in the video; waving an arrow antenna around looking for the next satellite pass.

    Only Grover is retired and he is the one that thought that he was in Maine that morning. The rest of us go on to work every Friday morning. Randy

    I liked the forward shot of the road on the drive in. Nice to watch the scenery. Also that jackhammer fellow was quite a persistant fellow at 8 in the morning. :)

    JD0RSJ again Randy! I went to the Titanic special event, W0S on 4/14/2012, in Branson, MO. One of the guys I've become friends with in the local club does a lot of satellite contacts with his 2 meter HT. I watched him try to work a few contacts, but not much happened. Then latter that night he got a weak signal that came in. Through the satellite he was working a boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Talk about amazing! I'd love to try that myself!

    Well line of sight. The satellite is about 500 miles up. Not bad for 5 watts and a few db of gain. If you were on a tall enough tower, you could do the same between a couple radios on earth! Randy

    hi there , watched your demonstration on finding satellites with the radios and it's great to see people having fun with amateur stuff , but feel that when you actually are trying to find the signal from the satellites , i think when you waving the yagi a bit too fast for the radio to pick it up ; if you just stayed in one spot and slightly moved around , you should get something .

    Thanks, I really try and have good audio on my videos. Audio really makes a big difference. There are so many videos with no sound or no narration, so that you have no idea what is going on. Kind of like silent movies! Keep watching. Randy

    I like it when Paul looks up as if he's going to see the sat. Natural insticint. We all do it. I use Orbitron for tracking sats. The best out there. freestanding. No need for internet(except kep updates). Tracks up to 4000? sats. Anyhow lots. Tell the guys about it Randy.

  • @K7AGE
    @K7AGE  16 років тому

    The main problem was that his satellite tracking was set to a location 2,500 miles away from where we were! So, nothing to be heard at all! Randy

    I wonder, will there be any future announcements of moon bounces? I am now stationed in Japan so I should at least be able to pick up something. Right now I'm just running off of a VX-6r until the ICOM mobile rig arrives (With the rest of my equipment) keep up the good work on uploading and documenting your work. I find it enjoyable to watch.

    Unfortunately, very seldom. The trees have grown below my big satellite antennas which prevents me from rotating them up. Looks like some chainsaw work is in order. Randy

    Btw, over horizon phased array PAVE PAWS facility up in Sagamore, MA, is under fire for potential links to cancer clusters in that area.

    Just a heads up...I tried to DL The Orbitron program from that stoff.pl site...the DL carried some kind of vicious installer program...it loaded all kinds of weird programs into my computer...I dunno if it was an isolated event...not sure. Be careful...I just got the last one uninstalled. Is there somewhere else that has such a program? KD0UDI

    Yes you can be like a one arm paper hanger. I haven't fooled with satellites in couple of years. So, we gave it a try. Yes when you start playing around with antennas, the neighbors start keeping a close eye on you.
