Really hope Lud and Otto are going to make this extension accessible for other UA-cam creators to take advantage of, even if less fully featured (which is totally understandable). Someone made Rae an extension to make her stream more "Twitch-like" but it's pretty much closed off to other creators. Luckily, BTTV and 7TV have already started transitioning UA-cam integration since like September, and will get better with time too.

One thing I really like about this channel is that I end up learning things that apply outside of the Twitch ecosystem and I don't realize it sometimes until months later. DAZN is one of the premiere boxing teleproviders(?) and I've heard some griping about the fact that you pay a monthly subscription AND you get served ads in between rounds, fights, etc. I'm not sure what to do with the information, but I remembered Devin's talk about the difference between revenue generated by subscriptions (that tend to cost flat, unchanging amounts of money) vs. revenue generated by advertisers competing with each other for the ad space.

If Lud and Otto can pull off this extension then I think you'll see YT culture start to improve quite quickly, especially if it's available to other streamers which I'd assume it is. I think on top of that YT could really start to build a decent community by signing just a few more variety streamers, those similar to Lud like Mizkif or Sykkuno who definitely have loyal followings but who also collaborate on such a frequent basis. It would really improve the YT ecosystem IMO.

Made it to the end! I put these on as a podcast at this point. Tons of great points and I'm waiting (im)patiently for a overhaul of youtube's UI, by them or via extension. I like seeing what changes they're looking to make and every time they announce something I'm closer and closer to switching. 100% solid observations. As a Twitch partner I’m left wondering wtf is going in half the time.
Twitch used to have events for small games. I used to manage events for some sim/building games, have a competition, show it off on the front page, those days are long gone but they helped with some discovery and as feeling a part of something “bigger.”
Next year is going to be the best for the industry. It’s going to be fun.

"There are no Streamers that got big only through UA-cam", all are forgetting how VTubers exploded through mostly UA-cam and how the biggest VTubers (that are also some of the biggest female streamers) are all on UA-cam, it helped a lot that the clips of them would fill your recommendations so that at some point you would be forced to see their streams, which is where UA-cams real strength is, if I were to do Streams and UA-cam and Video content at the same time, I don't have to migrate users to a different platform, they can just see my Streams in their homepage already

    • @GekTC
      @GekTC 3 роки тому

True, but keep in mind that most of them are Hololive vtubers, who are part of Cover, a Vtuber agency who gave them A LOT of publicity to help them get there to begin with. Sure, Sora, the first Hololive girl, started with just 13 viewers on her debut stream, so they still had to work for it, but it is still safe to say that their overall success today as UA-cam streamers is more an exception than a rule, and I would not look up to achieving the same if I was an aspiring streamer working alone as an indie.

For YT it seems you need to know the streamer or happen to search for something specific that may be live to see them. Does any of this YT talk help a new streamer start there and be successful? UA-cam is already kinda better at this in design but they're not supporting it with creators (maybe besides ludwig) that will actually make these events happen where twitch is making a huge push to fund and incentivize event based content.

Also you're 100% correct. Ludwig avged 70-80k viewers during his Mogul Money stream today. His plan is to do something like that weekly with the new funding from YT. An IRL gameshow/talk show kind of vibe. And he's one of the few streamers who has massive connections and is super well liked in the streaming community overall that will actually be able to bring them onto his sho. There isn't a pocket of the streaming world he hasn't touched: Minecraft (Dream, Karl Jacobs), OTV (Toast, Poki), 100T (Rae, Leslie), OTK (Miz), Smash/Melee (mang0/Clint), LSF (xQc), Chess (GothamChess, Botez Sisters) and then wherever Sykkuno and MoistCritical fall into it lol. And there are groups I'm forgetting, I'm sure. Find me ONE other streamer that could boast having very strong connections with that many different cultures on streaming. YOU CAN'T.

Great take on what's going on. I don't really watch live streams, but I've followed your channel for a couple of years now because I find your insight into the business fascinating. Thanks for the hard work Devin!

a couple years ago i did an internship at a place that manages kids doing homework.
I surveyed the employees about their stresses and desires and what they enjoy etc.
the results showed an overwhelming desire to be heard by higher ups, i wasn't trained, i took one stats class and just needed an internship. i wrote a plan, ran it by management, adjusted the plan, ran it by employees for feedback and they implemented some small changes, noone worked a second more, 6 months later at the end of the internship i surveyed everyone again and on top of the list: more variety in their schedule. previously this issue wasn't even anywhere near the top. ofcourse plenty other things couldve caused this, seasonal changes etc. but this lack of autonomy was no longer an issue.
I genuinely feel like someone could fix twitch in a year if management wasn't blocking every single attempt at making it better

i even considered applying to twitch for a nonexistent role about 5 years ago but i wasn't sure how to do that and if they even hired internationally

I've been here the entire time! I am a small streamer from twitch that just recently moved to UA-cam gaming. I LOVE this show. So much useful information! On my days off, I've done nothing but try and learn how to approach UA-cam. Thank you for this awesome show. And I will be watching the 30 hours of video you have about the business side of things.

Great video, Devin. Your passion for this stuff really shows and I love that. Thank you for breaking all the info down into something easy to understand. I'm a very small streamer who recently moved over to UA-cam from Twitch and most other creators I've spoken to have disagreed with this move. But I did a lot of research on this, your videos helped out a lot. I think we really need to listen to the numbers, the facts and the experts on this. It's really factored into my decision to move. Thanks so much for doing all of this for us, we appreciate it! P.S. I was here at 59 minutes!

48:14 I always watch on UA-cam for LCS or League live events because I can rewind to the start if I missed something or replay a play if I feel like I missed something. I can also pause and come back to what I missed if I need to step away for a moment. And because UA-cam has lower delay than Twitch, it also means I can watch co-commentators like Dom while watching the game itself and sync up the UA-cam stream with Dom's perspective. There's just too many benefits to time control. I also don't lose much because there are a lot of time between games that you can skip to catch back up to live if you spent 2-3 minutes away.
