love that comment! and thank you for noticing im a gentleman. i have all kinds of interests to share with everybody and will, it brings me joy to know someone else is having fun with it and participating. take care, more to come soon.
thanks for watching and for the kind words. it just makes the knife look a little nicer i know the plastic is used for a reason but they do make the knife look cheap. most all of the bush craft community prefer that kind of belt attachment. it does work well for squatting or sitting use. this can also be made so the dangler is removed and worn directly on the belt, i do my own that way. any knife i make or modify will have a sheath made by me to what i feel the knife looks comfortable in. lol. take care.
Hi Dennis, I really enjoyed watching that little project come to a fine ending - that knife will be your pal's pride for years to come. I've just finished - yesterday - my first ever knife project - also based on a Mora blade like that one - I didn't go the whole hog and make a split handle like yours, I drilled a slot into a hunk of English oak and glued the tang right in. I like the idea of the handle in two-halves and the brass rivets running through from side to side - next time I do one I'll try to follow your technique. Thanks for making the video - workshop projects like this are great fun, and we're always learning from each other's workmanship.
thank you my friend, you are so right bro, although that knife was technically a hidden tang knife, hidden tang knives are quite common and work just as good, many people start by making hidden tang knives with a blade they bought. i have made some myself with deer antler and will again im sure. take care and thanks for watching. during the summer im busy with different things but after the deer hunting season i will do some winter camping and crafting.. im pretty set up for making some knives this winter and have a bushcraft design in mind. i may be contacting some of you guys to do some swapping/bartering for different woods to work with.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Yes, extremely light for such an efficient little knife. But your craftmanship is showing also. I also like your modesty in the beginning of the video. Too many loud mouths running the world.
@@Ve-suvius thank you very much friend. i have gotten so many encouraging comments. i do have another Mora knife that i have been planning on removing the handle and replacing it with one of my making, using my method. i have been getting the workshop in order last week and will start on it this week. looking back my knife video has done the best so far. i will possibly have a video for Fri. morning sometime. dont hold me to it right now, i plan on posting a craft type video every week on Friday mornings, or on Mondays. i have also found some Mora blades which would be quicker to work with but they are out of the carbon steel ones at the moment. if that doesnt work out because of the world moving so slow at the moment i have some old butcher knives i will be using to make new knives from. so i have more coming soon. i hope you will subscribe and continue to follow along. thanks again, take care..
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Done 👈👍. Is Morakniv company out ot of carbon blades at the moment? Do I understand you correct in this.. I know many companies deliver slow at the moment. Covid-19 situation probably..
@@Ve-suvius i have been watching their site and yes the last i looked all the carbon ones were sold out. the stainless blades they did have in stock. if i were selling these it wouldnt matter to me unless someone had a preference. im not saying they, Mora, are not in production, just the site for online sales was out of stock. i will keep an eye on it,. i also had contact with Mora via web-site recently and they do sell most models without handles for people to assemble their own. yes, the covid thing is affecting everything and making people nuts. i think even Mora have to get materials somewhere so it stands to reason that may be why.
thanks friend, and thanks you for the kind words. although i have a couple mora knives i personally prefer a knife with a little heft to it, to tell the truth, i dont have or use too many things i havent modified somehow. lol thanks for watching and for your comment. i will check your channel out.
It drives me nuts that the Mora knife blanks cost more than the frickin' knife. But that's all to common I guess. Shovel handles cost more than shovels.
are you in the u.s.? there are a couple companies that sell scandinavian style blades that are/maybe better than mora blades much less expensive. im going to try knives of the north to see if i can get a new source. i have made quite a few knives with mora blades and im looking for something a little beefier myself. yes, considering what they are mora blades are expensive, ive found only a few sizes available and what i have gotten the grinds are many times uneven making it difficult to fit a brass piece on the front. thanks for watching, take care my friend
I love the idea of this project. You have motivated me to hack off the handle of one of my Moras and customize it like you did. What a great project. Happy to subscribe. I look forward to more videos.
welcome my friend and thank you for subscribing. im working on another project now, video soon. be careful not to scratch the blade with the saw when cutting the handle off, it happens to me every time. good luck and i hope your knife comes out nice.
thanks for the tip my friend. yes i know, in fact i have 3 of the 2000 blades and a couple of #1s i will be building and posting videos real soon. when i made the first video i wasnt aware and i also wanted to show how the handle can come off and you can make the knife nicer looking.. i have made some knives from blades i ordered online and like i said i will be posting more videos real soon with more original type handles on them. .thanks for watching, i invite you to check out my channel for more DIY and outdoors.
thank you for the kind words Shawn, and thanks for watching. your timing is perfect, i will be moving into my winter routine of winter camping and working in my workshop on projects. i will be happy to make more mora knives, someone else asked if i would be making more as well. i guess its time to order some blades. if there is any mora blade design you prefer please send me an e-mail.at the address on my home page. subscribe and continue to watch videos, ill be working in the shop soon. take care my friend.
I have to add...your shop is so clean and tidy... Enjoyable video...thanks. One tip...when you are epoxying the scales to the blade tang, do not over tighten the vise, otherwise you can squeeze out too much of the epoxy...leaving a poor connection.
thank you for your friendly comment and tip. i have found this is one of my more popular videos so i will be making more knives after this next deer hunting season is over. i have discovered a few things to strengthen the handle to blade connection. i appreciate the views and helpful comments from everybody. thanks for watching.
i have been thinking about it and i am in the process of setting up my workshop to make them. at the time i have a small area and im not set up for making the blades but i have a bunch of Mora blades to get started with. i will be posting on a video soon. thank you for your interest and asking, sub and click the bell., so you will know. take care my friend.

Once you post about 4 Videos of Crafting in your workshop over the course of a month, your viewership should skyrocket. People love Restorations, Blacksmithing and just about anything that makes Antiques pretty Or Original concepts with new twists. Any other Videos of just daily life and Diary format can be posted on random days throughout the week aside from your "Shop" days. Looks way better, but you lost a lot of structural integrity between the marriage of the stick tang and the handle. However it's not like it's going to fall apart, if you're using it in a normal fashion, l like it👍.
on that one i did. my later Moras have the blade set into the handle like the original way they are manufactured. this is the first video i did on modifying a Mora knife, i have more videos. i invite you to check out my channel. thanks for watching and the helpful comment.
thank you friend, another viewer comment recommended me to a mora video on youtube and they show the blades being made. i did find some for sale in various places online. and your right about the other blades as well, i used to get premade blades that were the sandwiched steels from a finish company, i believe. i put antler handles on them. thanks for watching and for your helpful comment.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Might have been company called Laurin metalli lot of retail sellers sell their blades to knife makers. Honestly i think they make most outdoor knife blades in Finland to different companies. Laurin metalli is kinda like finnish mora, but they just mainly produce blades for other companies that finishes the knives
i do believe its from the pressing process when the blade is punched out of the sheet steel. there is a video or two on youtube showing mora blades in production. thanks for watching

thanks for asking, it is a liner material i bought online. its used between the blade and scales by lots of knifemakers. there are a variety of brands, you will see videos on you tube where they speak of g10 liner material. i used 3 pieces of real thin stuff and laminated it together then cut the blade profile out after they hardened. i was planning on wood but the blade was thinner than i thought and wood would not have been as strong or stable as the plastic material. thanks for watching
I use old vinyl LPs, you can buy then cheaply from charity/thrift stores. Also my local record dealer has a boxful of broken & damaged records that he can't sell for the music, but he keeps them for people to make plant pots and various art & craft projects - I got 6 or 7 for nothing, as it would otherwise cost him by increasing his rubbish/garbage collection Roughen them with medium abrasive paper to remove or reduce the grooves and give a key for the glue, then degrease with alcohol The plastic is brittle so you must support it whilst cutting - use a fine toothed saw, but once it's made up into the knife handle it's strong enough
@@geoffreyboyling615 good idea friend, thanks for the comment. i have even used the plastic that they laminate the outside of cheap drum kits with and it worked fine with some prepping. i love it when people use their imagination to complete a project. especially if it works. take care
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 I think anyone who makes knives will be a bit of a hoarder; I have a box of odds & ends - bits of brass, aluminium, hard plastic, offcuts of wood and so on A couple of years ago I helped a neighbour tidy his garden and got lilac & hawthorn, it's seasoned now, I've just started using it, and it looks good Some of the lilac was too thin even for knife handles, but I've been making that into burnishers/slickers for the edges of leather on sheaths and other items, as it is a very close grained wood Like you said, use your imagination
@@geoffreyboyling615 your very clever, maybe you would like to check out some of the channels i subscribe to, its actually one of my main interests. how someone can see an item or thing in something else and craft it. not only knives but all things, thats true survival skills, being resourceful.
first off, the blade i used cost more than 5 bucks to buy, believe me, view some more of my knife building videos you will see that i have bought many mora blades. second, i was just showing my method of building hidden tang knives. third i took something ugly, cheap looking and generic and gave it a soul. you will be shocked to see the amount of knives i have disassembled to make them look/be, the way i wanted them to. lastly, i did this to one of my knives, my friend liked it so i did the same for him and made a video so all of you could maybe pick up some different ideas for your own. thanks for watching and for your comment.
as per those that have battened with the Mora companion , it broke. Im hoping you are about to make it stronger to avoid that. we shall see. Ah! not making it stronger in the tang but just replacing the handle, ok.
hello friend, thanks for watching. no, i only put a nicer looking handle on the blade. although i do own a mora or two i dont put the faith in it as i do my other knives. in fact i mainly use it in the garden. i prefer a knife with some heft to it before i beat the crap out of it, i dont believe the mora can take it. that being said i do use an old mora with stainless blade to cut the top off metal containers and do beat it up pretty good. the mora is a good knife for hikers or general camping chores but not the right one for me. in my opinion the blade will have to be set into the handle somewhat to strengthen the tang.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 yes you are right. The Mora is more of a carving knife, small wood processing, small crafting type. A neck knife. Mora does have a full tang hunter that I understand to be excellent to the task and takes a better beating. I do prefer a full tang, 'if you can make it, I can take it', type of knife. I do have a Mora companion I like.
@@donlute3444 im always working on some kind of project and am in the planning right now for a large project, i will be making videos recording my success and failure. also deer hunting season is right around the corner so i get pretty one track minded until i harvest a deer. but this winter i may buy some mora blades online and make them a few different ways for videos to post on you tube. i have put some thought into making it stronger and will replace the one i made for my friend in the video with one of those. i have a short video of my "modified for bushcraft" u.s.m.c. kabar that i use mostly that i should post, and will soon.

love that comment! and thank you for noticing im a gentleman. i have all kinds of interests to share with everybody and will, it brings me joy to know someone else is having fun with it and participating. take care, more to come soon.
Nice sheaths! I have broken the plastic ones. Metal ring on yours is a nice touch, it is much more ergonomic when sitting e.g..
thanks for watching and for the kind words. it just makes the knife look a little nicer i know the plastic is used for a reason but they do make the knife look cheap. most all of the bush craft community prefer that kind of belt attachment. it does work well for squatting or sitting use. this can also be made so the dangler is removed and worn directly on the belt, i do my own that way. any knife i make or modify will have a sheath made by me to what i feel the knife looks comfortable in. lol. take care.
Nice work!
thank you my friend for the kind word.
That was a serious upgrade!
👍🏻
thanks friend
That's my favorite knife, along with the Mora 711.
About as good as it gets.
Also the price is great.
thanks for watching. yes they are cheap enough and great to carry around because theyre light weight.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617
Yes, extremely light for such an efficient little knife.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617
Done 👈👍.
Loved it.. Thanks!
thank you and thanks for watching.
Well done! I like mora knives but the plastic handle is not good. Big like👍 from me! Will do it one day to! Keep on!!!
thank you my friend, hope you are doing well.
nice
thanks for watching and for subscribing, i have more coming soon.
Great work mate! You gave that knife character, and some Class...
thanks friend, and thanks you for the kind words. although i have a couple mora knives i personally prefer a knife with a little heft to it, to tell the truth, i dont have or use too many things i havent modified somehow. lol thanks for watching and for your comment. i will check your channel out.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Thanks my brother, Keep up the great vids!
MoraKniv has production UA-cam video of the blades being pressed out !
thanks friend.
Beau travail ! Moi aussi je fais des manches pour MORA sur ma chaine lol
thanks friend
I love the idea of this project. You have motivated me to hack off the handle of one of my Moras and customize it like you did. What a great project. Happy to subscribe. I look forward to more videos.
welcome my friend and thank you for subscribing. im working on another project now, video soon. be careful not to scratch the blade with the saw when cutting the handle off, it happens to me every time. good luck and i hope your knife comes out nice.
You can buy just the blade from Morakniv and save time and labor removing the handle of the knife.
thanks for the tip my friend. yes i know, in fact i have 3 of the 2000 blades and a couple of #1s i will be building and posting videos real soon. when i made the first video i wasnt aware and i also wanted to show how the handle can come off and you can make the knife nicer looking.. i have made some knives from blades i ordered online and like i said i will be posting more videos real soon with more original type handles on them. .thanks for watching, i invite you to check out my channel for more DIY and outdoors.
Wow, you have some serious talent and skills I’d buy a few custom Mora and sheaths from you.
thank you for the kind words Shawn, and thanks for watching. your timing is perfect, i will be moving into my winter routine of winter camping and working in my workshop on projects. i will be happy to make more mora knives, someone else asked if i would be making more as well. i guess its time to order some blades. if there is any mora blade design you prefer please send me an e-mail.at the address on my home page. subscribe and continue to watch videos, ill be working in the shop soon. take care my friend.
Morakniv blanks, complete with the notch, are available.
thanks. i have looked, all i an find are the ones on amazon. i will look some more.
👍Başarılı
thanks my friend

Do you take custom orders?
i have been thinking about it and i am in the process of setting up my workshop to make them. at the time i have a small area and im not set up for making the blades but i have a bunch of Mora blades to get started with. i will be posting on a video soon. thank you for your interest and asking, sub and click the bell., so you will know. take care my friend.
Hope your channel picks up momentum in the algorithm, More Workshop videos will Get you on the front page a lot more, So even if you Don't post them much, Save up about 3 months worth of crafting and release One video each week on a Set Schedule (I.E Fridays at noon or Mondays at 4), Consistent and steady output will get you there. Again, This is only if you care about getting followers and viewers, if this is just your way of a diary or anything else then just keep doing what you're doing, It's Awesome, All of it. ALSO, When you make a Title for your videos make sure that it has a "Hot" word somewhere, Like you did here with Mora knives, or words like "Antique, Rare, Special, amazing," Or Company brand names. etc. good luck on your journey.
thank you, that is very friendly advice. i really appreciate it. i would def like more viewers, i often wonder why they come so slowly, i just thought i wasnt in the click. starting next week i will be restoring/ modifying some old butcher knives. i hope you will view the videos. thanks again, i will do as you suggest.
Hammer, your channel shows 1 subscribers and 4 videos. Would you take swimming lessons from someone whose never been in the ocean? I’d listen to them and think “what an oddity”
@@geigercourtier it’s called friendly advice I don’t post bc I would rather help people then to post but sure buddy what ever you say I look things up nd read on stuff nd know more then you about the algorithm nd posting I just don’t do it myself as I said before

@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Cool looking forward to your other videos, including Mora modifications 👍.
they sell loose blades as does other Finland type knife co.
thank you friend, another viewer comment recommended me to a mora video on youtube and they show the blades being made. i did find some for sale in various places online. and your right about the other blades as well, i used to get premade blades that were the sandwiched steels from a finish company, i believe. i put antler handles on them. thanks for watching and for your helpful comment.

Interestingly, Old Hickory knives (at least the couple I've owned) seem to have the same groove on the spine. I also wonder what it was...
i do believe its from the pressing process when the blade is punched out of the sheet steel. there is a video or two on youtube showing mora blades in production. thanks for watching

I may have missed it, but what did you use between the wooden scales as a spacer?
thanks for asking, it is a liner material i bought online. its used between the blade and scales by lots of knifemakers. there are a variety of brands, you will see videos on you tube where they speak of g10 liner material. i used 3 pieces of real thin stuff and laminated it together then cut the blade profile out after they hardened. i was planning on wood but the blade was thinner than i thought and wood would not have been as strong or stable as the plastic material. thanks for watching
I use old vinyl LPs, you can buy then cheaply from charity/thrift stores. Also my local record dealer has a boxful of broken & damaged records that he can't sell for the music, but he keeps them for people to make plant pots and various art & craft projects - I got 6 or 7 for nothing, as it would otherwise cost him by increasing his rubbish/garbage collection
Roughen them with medium abrasive paper to remove or reduce the grooves and give a key for the glue, then degrease with alcohol
The plastic is brittle so you must support it whilst cutting - use a fine toothed saw, but once it's made up into the knife handle it's strong enough
@@geoffreyboyling615 good idea friend, thanks for the comment. i have even used the plastic that they laminate the outside of cheap drum kits with and it worked fine with some prepping. i love it when people use their imagination to complete a project. especially if it works. take care
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 I think anyone who makes knives will be a bit of a hoarder; I have a box of odds & ends - bits of brass, aluminium, hard plastic, offcuts of wood and so on
A couple of years ago I helped a neighbour tidy his garden and got lilac & hawthorn, it's seasoned now, I've just started using it, and it looks good
Some of the lilac was too thin even for knife handles, but I've been making that into burnishers/slickers for the edges of leather on sheaths and other items, as it is a very close grained wood
Like you said, use your imagination
@@geoffreyboyling615 your very clever, maybe you would like to check out some of the channels i subscribe to, its actually one of my main interests. how someone can see an item or thing in something else and craft it. not only knives but all things, thats true survival skills, being resourceful.
Oh ! How I wish Mora manufactured their knives with a lanyard hole !
me too, thanks for watching.
Why break a knife when you could have purchased a naked blade? For $5?
first off, the blade i used cost more than 5 bucks to buy, believe me, view some more of my knife building videos you will see that i have bought many mora blades. second, i was just showing my method of building hidden tang knives. third i took something ugly, cheap looking and generic and gave it a soul.
you will be shocked to see the amount of knives i have disassembled to make them look/be, the way i wanted them to. lastly, i did this to one of my knives, my friend liked it so i did the same for him and made a video so all of you could maybe pick up some different ideas for your own.
thanks for watching and for your comment.
as per those that have battened with the Mora companion , it broke.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 I cant wait to see what you do. Will the blades be as the one in the video, will you get the hunter blade? My favorite is the Kbar BK9. Love that knife. Pulled it out of the box grabbed the blade and stuck it in a tree. Battened it and took a knot. It's my first and always go to. Be out hunting . See ya.
i really dont think there is too much you can do to add strength to any hidden tang knife. i dont batten my knives anyway, never found a reason to. i never saw that being done until i watched some of the bushcraft videos.
Great video. You have some skills my friend. I think your handle being pinned like it is should be stronger than the original. Thank you.
thank you for the generous comment. these knives are very strong, the structure and materials make it almost unbreakable, under normal use that is.. i believe you would have to break one on purpose. i jus posted a new Mora build and have improved my method. i invite you to view, Mora my way. thanks for watching and take care my friend.
