    Description:
Is it possible for an amateur who’s more at home with UA-cam videos than Hollywood, to craft a trailer that doesn’t just fall flat?
    Inside the Video:
The Challenge: I've got a short film, penned and produced by my girlfriend Ashley. She's handed it over with a simple yet daunt
ing task: edit this film and make a trailer. Easy, right? Well, let's see about that.
From Amateur to Aspiring Editor: Follow my journey as I navigate the uncharted waters of Hollywood-style trailer editing. No sugar-coating, just the raw and real process of transforming a short film into a trailer that might just be worth watching.
For the Creative Minds: Whether you’re a filmmaker, an editor, a UA-camr, or just someone who loves a good story, there’s something in this for you. Watch the transformation from a few clips to a coherent, stylish story.
The Real Talk: No fluff. Just a straightforward depiction of the trials and tribulations of editing a film with zero Hollywood experience.
The Outcome: Will this trailer be a hit or a miss? You be the judge.
    Why This Video?
Gain insights into the editing process from a non-professional perspective.
Learn what it takes to turn a short film into a compelling trailer.
Understand the challenges faced by indie filmmakers and editors.
Get a realistic view of the creative process, minus the glamorization.

What a valuable 30 minutes. You don’t find much of this real-time decision making much on UA-cam and it’s so cool seeing it come together! Only thing I disagree with is the flashing coronavirus headlines before the comedic reveal, but this was a fantastic trailer

Totally agree. The one thing I'd change is those headlines. Hits harder without them. In my opinion.

Showing the process so raw like this is amazing. Thank you Hayden 🙌🏼
Some unsolicited feedback on the beginning:
Felt like I was in the party scene too long. Could it go:
“one minute to 2020…woooo…2020 is going to be my year, I’m going to do everything right” then the roommates saying
“can’t believe we live with an extrovert, the plant joke” - she interrupts - “3…2…1!” hard cut to news report.
That might still establish the conflict of introverts having to quarantine with an extrovert.
Thank you for all this free advice and such entertaining videos

A couple weeks ago I was talking to my 12 year old niece and mentioned video editing. “I love doing that! I do the Trailers thing in iMovie!”
I had long forgotten iMovie had the trailers editing mode and soon recalled it being my first intro to editing. Trailers are the coolest thing to kids. OF COURSE that is their first editing project!
This video is a stepping stone for future generations. It will send ripples that will rise to tsunamis in our lifetime.

This video was amazing! Not only because of all the tips I can take after seeing all the decisions you make while editing the trailer, but also because of the way you tell how you did it. Not only do you apply as many rules as I know about storytelling to what you show that you edit, but also to what we are seeing and that is incredible

@@HillierSmith My only comment is that 2 minutes is too long for this film. 1-1:30 could have been more effective, a bit more uplifting, more cheerful. Hollywood trailers are over the top for a reason. The film should be sold. The point of a trailer is to grab your attention and hold it, as if you were originally sitting in the theater for a horror movie. Personally, I don't even like it when the trailer gives away the entire plot of the movie. Nice work though:)

I think the thing that makes hollywood trailer sound design from other mediums is just how fast they cut the music. Like, viva la vida is a great choice, but it needs to be something like...
The fireworks scene shows as the song starts, cut right to the violins "duh duh duh, duh duh, duh," cut right to "Oh oh aaah oh ahh" but quiet in the background of the party. Have those adlibs going during the talking, then at the next big sequence cut to "hear Jerusalem bells a' ringing", then boom effect, music cuts, the scene where they shake on being f buddies that share a bathroom.

    1. How long did this take you to cut? Did you do it in a day as your wardrobe suggests?
    2. What changes did Ashley have, if any? We all know the first viewing with the "client" can just be the start of a whole new process of notes and refining.

While I may not delve into serious editing myself, I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the fascinating thought process behind it and seeing the creative pieces come together. As someone unfamiliar with the editing, I wonder whether, when she declares '2020 is going to be my year,' the impact might be more powerful without the follow-up 'I'm going to make everything right.' The first statement is very strong and the second sentence somewhat dilutes its impact. Just a thought from a viewer with zero editing skills And, of course, me suggesting edits to you would be the joke of the year...

The concept is good in my opinion, but the acting doesn't feel deep, and its superficial, almost cliche. I think a extrovert character dramatizing being friends with their roommate and attempting this like they're forced to do this seems very contradicting and doesn't fit imo, I can't see why a extrovert character would find a conflict within doing what they love. Its like making a story of a doctor who finds difficult this one patient just for the sake of the story. Sure, if the patient was somebody who they find attractive, or is some old school bully, something, but the story you're trying to tell doesn't really make the other characthers shes sorrounded by special. If they were celebrities, or were some old friends she had, something new, theyre just random people she shares house with, and she is a extrovert. The conflict just doesnt make sense. If you're introducting a extrovert person within a introverted household, make them atleast be excited about being friends with the other people, get fun with it. Maybe it's just me, but I felt its all so unreal... and maybe cliche? The story would've been better if the story was all the way around, 3 extroverts and 1 introvert, and the themes are flipped. Maybe it's just me though and I didn't find the story behind this very exciting because of the character dynamics :/
